If you haven’t discovered Bookish Theories, it’s my favorite explanation channel because I feel like the Bookish Theories lady is a genius and she deep dives where other explanations just skim the surface. I actually prefer her explanations for Daechwita and Haegeum. I haven’t seen her explanation for Amygdala, but if she has one it’s probably amazing. Her explanation of V’s solo song Singularly actually blew my mind.

To be fair to xCeleste, her video you watched was a reaction and not so much an analysis video, but I really liked that you took the time to do your own analysis of Haegeum. That scene in the bathtub where he considers the cigarette and instead of smoking it uses it to burn the stolen safe of money is pivotal. One thing I think you missed are the references to Scarface, which Yoongi has said is one of his favourite movies (he also has a song called Tony Montana on his first mixtape). But besides all that, one of my main takeaways from the trilogy is that corruption is cyclical and it's a continuous process of needing to purge it out wherever it festers.

Totally, I quickly realized that after I wrapped that portion of the video up. I think it was just some miscommunication - I'm purely listening to Army's suggestions via the comments etc to guide my learning. Its been an interesting/fun process, but hiccups are natural lol. But thank you for the kind words - i'm glad the situation lead me to putting my own take on it. I missed the tony montana bit, In hindsight I see it now! I like your takeaway - the cyclical nature of corruption. I always say "theres always 1 @zzhole" lol . its a process! Anyways, thanks for taking the time to watch and share your thoughts, I appreciate ya!

Loved seeing you react to analysis of the songs. I'm not sure if you've put together the larger story of the three music videos, at least how I see it. In Amygdala, we see how the Mad King was created. Yoongi did it to himself while locked away inside of his own brain dealing with his trauma. The Mad King is the young, hungry Yoongi that wanted to be respected as a rapper and have power in the industry. The injury he gave himself over his eye is still an open wound, brutal and red, still fresh. He's killed by bottom class Yoongi, along with the six guys representing the other members of BTS. The bottom class Yoongi still has the wound, but it's closing up and healing. That bottom class Yoongi goes on to become the corrupt police officer in Haegeum. The injury is now healed, but the scar remains. This time he's not mad for power, he's greedy for money at the expense of freedom of expression. Thief Yoongi, along with the six men representing Bangtan, is the only representation of himself without a scar. He kills the corrupt police officer. However, he then takes the police force under his own control. This is evidenced by the police car dropping him off at the noodle shop, which was a front for the cop's illegal activities. As he walks in, he slings the cop's suit coat over his shoulder and sits down in what is now HIS noodle shop, signalling that Yoongi isn't yet done evolving and the cycle will eventually repeat once again.

You did a really good job for a newbie! You'll do even better as you get more background and context, and I'm looking forward to watching your journey. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. As others have said, in his last concert of the tour Yoongi becomes very emotional and starts crying in "Snooze" (that song always makes me cry too). He apologizes and asks for help in "Dear My Friend" (about a friend lost to drugs) and needs the chorus and audience to finish that one for him. And then "Amygdala"--he's also in pieces, and I think he actually cuts a verse in order to end it. But in the encore he's able to sing "The Last" and "Nevermind", and then opens and goes through the white door. And then he turns to wave goodbye, which he has never done before. He always said he didn't say it before because it wasn't going to be the end. Howver, in his live he says he can't say he'll see us soon, so it's goodbye until 2025. And then this morning the news of his enlistment dropped. So the last day has been a real emotional roller coaster, but I'm happy to bear this because of all that he has given us in return.

Loving your channel and this deep dive into Agust D trilogy. Just to add…in Haegeum pay attention to the guy on the phone once the gang entered. Once Suga leaves with the money notice how he nods to the guy on the phone. He’s the same guy who is standing next to Suga at the end. Also in Daechwita…Suga nods to the guy selling meat in the market, it’s the same guy who hands him the gun at the end. In other words there was always someone on the inside. Also it was Jin and Jungkook who had a cameo in that MV. Bookish theories goes in depth for the first two videos. Highly recommend you watch that channel if you are interested in more explanations of the haegum and daechwita

Great reflection on haegum! There is a big theme of liberation on the album like Celeste said, so I think it was a great title track to present that. As for what I want to add, there is a lot! - the whole song has a traditional vs modern dichotomy to it - haegum means a Korean traditional two-string instrument, but also means unlocking something previously forbidden. Sonically, we hear the actual haegum, but it is combined with a trap beat. Story-wise, one side of suga is represented as an incumbent police chief that is a part of a well established system, while the other side is a new fresh criminal persona. - sth i think is interesting - the police chief looks like the guy who won the fight in daechwita, he is the "new king", but he has become a tyrant in his own right. But it isn't just one person anymore, it represents a system like you said. But this was once considered right. Hence, i think Daechwita was being liberated by the obvious limitations, and haegum is liberating from the hidden limitations - Suga effectively got this video banned on korean tv cause he smoked (specifically, he lit the cigarette, banned by law to be on tv). This is why in videos (esp kpop), you will see people holding lollipops or fries like cigarettes, to represent them subtly. It fits the theme. But you are right, there is another reason of it because of how kpop idols are treated by the public and the industry. Really, they are upheld to such unreasonable "moral" standards, and they are very arbitrary. I think V got caught with a cigarette once too, and it was a whole thing. So it would be funny if after this violent and explicit video, the thing he got shit for was the smoking - I think that was his point. - red chopsticks reference to the movie Old Boy, famous Korean movie - i think the place they filmed in Thailand is significant. It's called the thief market because when slavery was abolished, people came here to sell things they took from the palace (lets say end of Daechwita). It was recently bought off to make way for a luxury area (again, the non-obvious constraint kills you in the end! The self-indulgence, the compulsion for wealth and order!) Last thing - interestingly, a friend of mine said Daechwita and Haegum are like a history of society as much as Suga. Tradition will always be changed, there is cyclically a revolution and a change of values. And history repeats. This is why I think its interesting to put Amygdala as the next video. It could be a prequel to Agust D. Or it could be the last unmarked Suga from Haegum getting his mark so that history can repeat...

Xceleste is an OG Army and she is great. The “tattoo” on her neck is birthmark. What she was holding is a dressed up Army bomb for an Agust D concert, a light stick for the fandom. During concerts, it’s synchronized to the music and it flashes. Whenever you see a live video, you’ll see sea of lights in the audience, that’s the Army bombs.

10:37 So while the rice chest thing is tragic, he didn't actually give the full story. The reason he was put in the rice chest was because he became extremely violent. Beating women and killing people. But during that time, they followed Confucianism and under those principles, the King couldn't just have him executed. It was actually a very hard decision for his father and from what I remember reading he didn't handle the act and eventual death of his son very well.

I actually really liked your analysis for haegeum, thnks for going through it, hope you liked it. And just to add something to amygdala, when I watched the video I interpreted him not being able to escape the room as a symbol of how we deal with traumatic experiences, you may find ways to cope with it and do better, be better, but there will always be a piece of you that never comes back, a lost of innocence in a way, something that changed you forever and that no matter how hard you try you can't get back. Suga has been on tour for a few months now for his album D-Day and yesterday (06) was his last concert, in Seoul. RM performed as a guest and both Jin and J-Hope (the two that are in the military at the moment) went to the concert to support him, needless to say, suga cried A LOT, he finally revealed his "7" friendship tattoo that all seven members got over a year ago, he chose to get it on the shoulder he hurt in that car accident. During the concerts there's a lot of imagery abt the album concept, and bc it was the last concert, at the end suga is finally able to "escape" through that white door that was in the amygdala MV. He has worked so hard on this project and it was very beautiful and emotional for many army (I was sobbing like a baby). After the concert he went live to talk to armys and it really felt like a last goodbye before he enlists for military service "it would be a lie if I said let's meet soon, so let's meet in 2025" which is the year they are all set to come back together as a group after their military services are done. Love suga, he's so strong and has been through so much in his life, very thankful he chose to share these emotions and songs with us

Appreciate the depth (as is required) toward your thoughtful, personal analysis on Haegeum. Other little notes in the mv directly relating to AgustD/SUGA: he initially shows up w/ 6 in his crew behind him to presumably bust up the crime ring so to draw out the crooked cop (his alter ego - emphasis on "ego") - 6 arguably representing his BTS bros. Not only do the members always have each other's backs, they've been fighting injustice, oppression, etc., in their way, through their messaging since their debut 10 yrs ago. Part of Suga's personal insights/growth go further back than this trilogy ("Interlude: Shadow", part of a BTS concept/storyline, for one). No doubt, ARMY may request your reactions to more AgustD songs (that kid - who's now 30yrs old - is a real babyfaced assassin lol). He essentially chronicles his real life struggles and personal growth throughout his career, a sort of psychological catharsis culminating into this trilogy. But it's only in the final show (a deeply emotional one, to be sure) of his concert tour that ended just last night did the door from Amygdala reemerge to offer another hint as to what may come next...Yoongi-SUGA-AgustD came full circle that historic night, and it felt like an honor and privilege to be allowed into the deepest corners of his psyche, to say the least, and his genuinely pure heart. He's a truly fearless artist to have shared openly such deep vulnerabilities. On a fun note: the tangerines seem like kind of a nod to ARMY because he's aware we all know his fave fruit are tangerines (he's been seen eating them on live vid meet ups w/ ARMY ) lol And thanks for being respectful to our girl, XCeleste. She's very well known and respected within ARMY for having done her share of brilliant, in-depth research into all things BTS, w/ very insightful videos presenting who BTS is/their history, hardships, analyzing concepts and storylines within BTS's albums, BTS Universe, webtoons, etc. It was actually nice to see her casually react to and simply enjoy an AgustD video:) Off to bed for me...✌💜

I found your analysis, very thoughtful and I appreciated that you took time to really think ab the details. I’m including a couple of thoughts below, and I tried to lay them out in a way that you can read them if you choose to. Just a heads up that I am not one to give completely unbalanced adoration, I’m an academic, and I try to view everything through a critical and more balanced lens. I probably won’t leave any other comments, I don’t usually comment unless I know people personally… so I hope this is a little bit helpful at least? I hope you continue to enjoy going down the rabbit hole. 1. There is one line should be read together as one thought… someone’s words can lead to somebody’s death-can that still be considered freedom of expression? *PAUSE* -is it really freedom of expression if you have harmed one with your words or they are what pushed somebody over the edge? This is yet another reference they have made to how common it is, unfortunately, for individuals, including an alarming number of Korean singers and entertainers, to be bullied online to the extent that they are no longer with us. And these guys have spent a lot of time talking about how words have power and can harm people. (They’re also very good friends with Tablo of Epik High who has both music and a personal tragic history that is worth looking into. These are some of the sources I use when I’m teaching media literacy myself.) I would also encourage you to do a little bit more research as much of all of their work does have a specific culture orientation and bts lore, even solo work, that I personally think you will find even more interesting when you dig in. 2. I’m glad you watched DKDK. Danny has lectured on media literacy and produces MVs. David is actually a professor of Korean culture/media studies in SK. (They both get s… because Danny has no filter and can be a little bit of a D but also has a decent heart.) 3. XCeleste/Rosan did not do a deep dive because Yoongi spoke for himself in interviews and a whole documentary on his own work “Road to DDay.” She and the other OGs decided NOT to talk over the actual artist. I forgot to mention it on my last comment. I’m not sure who told you that XCeleste/Rosan had done an explanation video, but she only did a quick reaction as you saw, in between a bunch of other work and travel (interviews with K-pop artists and working with Eric Nam and the Korean tourism department etc.) When she does an explanation video, no stone will be left unturned. (Her blood sweat and tears theory video is actually the best in my opinion. And she’s the one that does BTS hardships and all of the BU video theory videos. She is the actual GOAT.) 4. I like bookish theories OK, but many of her videos lack research and do not consider theories by other ARMYs, which leaves her kind of in a vacuum/bubble and often her theories are debunked quickly. She doesn’t look at what the artist themselves have said- and including these voices in theory videos have been standard practice in the history of theory and scholarship on “especially” BTS. BT also will put out theories for really face value stuff, but hey, everyone is trying to survive on this platform. I just think she is smart enough that she could be doing more interesting content, she could be more transparent that she hasn’t included the voices that most theory video makers include, which would admittedly take a lot more time. She should certainly consider the voices of the actual artists when they explain it for themselves. But this is not personal, this is strictly and in formational critique of the way that she does her theory videos. (Absolutely 0 hate towards her, hope she continues to grow and succeed, I just try to look at the balanced view and not just fawn over folks.)

yeah xceleste is a great channel and has many explained videos on different bts songs as well as their fictional universe for their group songs and many great informational videos like the hardships video but she also reacts so id say avoid the reaction videos as there probably wont be much there yet as shes still processing the songs herself dont let that one video stop you from checking her others especially the hardships video its one of the best videos explaining there hardships in video form. but yeah overall id suggest if you can to do all 3 like this when you find them dkdktv, xcelese, bookish theories on bts songs or even collab songs that only involve 1 bts member because they usually have different takes some even play off each other etc theyre the top 3 go tos besides reading the lyrics from the site doolset which can be daunting for a reaction video as its a lot of reading (i still suggest reading doolset on your own time however we love seeing the reactor figuring out the meaning on video so its up to you) im gonna also make a comment on a different topic but kinda similar to explained videos

First off amazing breakdown of Haegeum! Second Daechwita and Haegeum are definitely anti-establishment but I think there's a reason why HE plays both characters...it's also a fight against himself, liberation from his past self (he wants to put his past in a rice chest as he said in Daechwita), he tells people to wake up, stop being slaves to youtube but we just watched his video... on youtube... Like you said he walked into the establishment and even if it is to take it down, he also recognizes that he takes part in it, he is a morally grey character (corrupted king/cop vs an outlaw fighting for justice, joker reference....) there's no good guy, we end up siding with the outlaw but even if we win... we end up eating thanks to the same thing we used to kill with (he is also eating from the system)... So the 2nd way read it for me is also a fight within himself: *his line of work VS. his beliefs * his past troubled self who conquered the industry out of anger and had to turn him into a criminal and seeing that after that... hyunta.. you go back to where it all started VS. his liberated self he now wants to move forward healed (scar) from his past.... Last point before wrapping up Agust D is his moniker born out of anger and frustration and that "killed" Min Yoongi (SUGA's real name) as he explained in his song "The Last"! 2016- "Agust D", "The last" the birth of Agust D 2020- "Daechwita" development of Agust D, reach of hyunta 2023- "Haegeum", "Amygdala" liberation from Agust D Sorry for the long comment and thanks for the reaction 💜

@@ROTMFilms it's not like it was a one time occurrence. once you step further than their explanation videos, there's a lot of questionable behavior. what i was referring to is when one of them said in the same interview that the scene is exhausted of bts and needs a new face and though bts are at the front of kpop they also the reason why other groups cant succeed (right 💀) but he will keep doing bts to sustain his channel. they have a "go f yourself" attitude towards armys because we don't agree with them, and by that i mean they literally curse at us in the livestream comments and such. then they apologise justifying themselves with atp typical "im an army too/this is how koreans are/it was sarcasm" and then proceed with saying smth rude again. they also admitted they were paid by kpop agency to react positively to some music. but the biggest problem i have with them is how they discuss (gossip on) the scandals in their weekly kpop news section no matter if it was a result of breach of privacy or in general harmful topics, rumors, giving platform to stalkers, spreading misinformation, etc - everything we as a fandom try to prevent happening to bts. i wont dig up all of these random livestreams they spoke on about bts, it's so scattered around the internet, i don't have time for that it's everyone's personal decision if to tolerate the way they go about things or not. for me, i can't. they've been disrespectful to a lot of people and i don't want to support that

Loved your analysis and recognize the effort/smarts involved. Great timing as Yoongi just ended his D-Day tour last night with closure to this trilogy. His stage production is symbolic, ending with him leaving through the white door from the Amygdala MV on the final night. The lyric from the D-Day album, “Future’s gonna be okay” appeared on the screen. This may be the end of Agust D- we’ll see. Haegeum: Establishment vs. anti-establishment is a big theme in these guys’ lives, and it’s even more complicated now that they’ve built HYBE from the ground up into a huge company on the stock market. Probably a reason why Yoongi’s been focusing on giving back in several ways. But he’s spoken about how he has to tread the line between commercial interests and artistic vision in his music, for example. He fought HYBE for his vision for the Daechwita MV, and I’m glad they support their artists in many cases despite their flaws. Anyways, now BTS is the establishment, in some ways, and they get to figure out what that means. I have my gripes with the Hardships vid but it’s well-framed and it’s hard to find perfect summaries of this stuff. Typing it all out ourselves can be tiring 😂.

Looking forward to witnessing your quest for a “best” BTS song. Particularly if/when you add their solo work to the equation. Word of warning, I’m a new-ish baby ARMY but my “top 10” group songs currently has over 60 songs in it 😂 A separate “favorite solo & collabs” playlist keeps growing with every member’s “Chapter 2” releases. In short, Good Luck! 💜

Hi dear. 68yo Army here. I have to admit I didn't actually watch this (I find DKDK tedious) but I did let it play on my phone on mute, I smashed that Like button, and now I've left a comment. Hurry back, dear.

Thanks for the shout out in the other video. 😘 Just throwing out my thoughts onto pile. I actually think of Amygdala as the start of the trilogy. We see him get hit and it triggers a break of his psyche. Along with the bad things happening with his family. He has bad thoughts, internally fights with himself and scars his face. Then in his fractured mind he becomes split the evil king(symbolizing all the things he doesn't like about himself and the world) and the lower class Suga which he wants to become( all the good aspects and happiness) in the end he kills the bad part. Then he is "reincarnated" again as a corrupt detective( again representing the bad) and a crook( good qualities) he again kills the bad part of himself. Now in Amygdala he keeps getting closer to the white door "salvation" with each incarnation. So the battle had been taking place in his mind. And each time he gets better. The amygdala is the place in the brain that experiences emotions and remembers them. So basically the whole trilogy is the fight for his sanity and repairing his fractured psyche. With each life he is getting a more complete soul. 😘💜🫰🏻

so theres 2 bts group songs that need explaining but you would be better off reading a webpage on screen for one of the songs as theres no really good explained videos for it so bts song Am I Wrong is a heavy political song that almost got bts blacklisted i suggest reacting to the song/lyrics then reading the webpage by muishramblings in the same video and the follow up song would be bts spring day i then suggest reacting to the music video/lyrics then reacting to "what you still dont know about bts spring day by italian army doing these will give you all the info on both songs so you can fully understand what happened during this time in korea. :)

I agree with you. I love XCeleste’s videos, but this particular reaction on Haegeum was not complete enough. I think you got the gist of Agust D’s message.🤗💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🏻
