I enjoy that there is just a generic typical pitchfork-wielding demon now to contrast the generic Angels. It was something long time coming and the angel design is great too. Unique but recognizable with classic influence. Still kinda disappointed with Amonozako being made cuter, (presumably because she is plot relevant and needs to be marketable) because I really like her design otherwise! It could've easily gone to her child instead who's described as a brat and troublemaker.

I don't understand why there are those people that are so aggressively anti-Doi and claim his art is horrendous, It's good. Also you don't need to be scared about saying "Chinese mile" of all things. It's true there's idiots out there like that but they will find anything to be mad about and I don't think they are anywhere near us. SMT fans are usually people who have an interest in cultures and not the kind of person on Twitter who doesn't know what Katakana is and thinks "waifu" is racist. You're in good hands Larrue.

I feel bad for Doi, he's been a part of projects that have a bit of baggage attached. 4 had art that was all over the place, Apocalypse had a unified look but a crap story, and SJ:Redux.......well I haven't gotten to that one yet but people talk about it like their cool friend suddenly became less cool and they're very disappointed. Also, he replaced Kaneko and dealing with change is hard.

@@psykomancer4420 honestly I don't get the complaints for Redux, cause you can pretty much avoid all of the new content in the game if you wish except for like 2 mandatory boss fights against Alex, it's not a huge distraction or anything. If anything the new final boss of the game is really good and I like that the new Kaw and Chaos endings aren't stupidly extreme.

@@psykomancer4420 I think Redux is a great one though. Sure, since you have far more options, isn't as hard. Like being able to pick all sub apps instead of having a limit. But seriously, the vast majority of the changes are basically optional, including tbe endings. My only complain would be the the MC looking younger though. I liked his veteran at his prime kins of look, but isn't a deal breaker.

The vase in 8:22 is apparently called caeretan hydria, and the pattern on hydra's head resembles ornamentation you can find on all types of those so I guess it might be a pun?

I believe that the multi-headed snake is not Hydra but the Yamata no Orochi since the Nahobino used a skill called Murokumo on it in the trailer. The Murakumo was the sword located within Orochi that Susanoo took before presenting it to Amaterasu.

That skill implies he defeated orochi before the snake. Orochi has the sword inside him. No depiction of orochi has the beard, and it isn't associated with poison

I initially thought this too but it's definitely the Hydra when you put together the vase/forehead pattern and the fact that he uses poison. (Which is a supposed power of the Hydra) I guess using Japanese sword relics on non Shinto snake deities is just gonna be a series trend from here on out since we also did something similar to what the trailer showcased in IVA. Although it could just be that Murakumo is a completely optional skill as well.

Like, SMTV is definitely a step up from what he's done so far in SMTIVApoc and SJRedux, but there should be no harm in letting him design demons along traditional or other lines instead of attracting weird guys.

I can live with Amanozako especially with the other designs being good, but cmon, there isn't some other pixie-type character they could have used? They just had to loli someone else? Though......if Aogami is Susanoo perhaps she was only recently born and she'll grow up by the end of the game. That would be a bit of brilliance that I do not expect to happen.

Aogami is presumably his own thing however there's probably an explanation as to why he's got so many connections to Susano-o that we're seeing. Like if the beginning of the recent story trailer is any indication he's possibly some kinda manmade god thing using Shinto legends as a base.

As a SMT newcomer Manananggal was my favorite demon added. grotesque, beautiful, and powerful. I didn't mind the redesigns, when they bring the heat with new demons like Manananggal

Tbh I think Doi's biggest shortcoming is not even his artistic talent (which would boil down a lot to personal taste) but that he is so very much obedient to the story writers. If they tell him to design a character a certain way because that's what is needed, he will do it. Obviously that is what he is paid to do, so one can't blame him for that. But especially the concept art to IVA shows imo that he already knows best how to design characters and that his one-sided involvement with the writing is more to his detriment. For V it seems like he was left more to do what he wanted to and that was definitely for the better.

@@xenobeers I can agree with that in some regards, like how Doi's can make characters look more expressive or how he can make them look more unique compared to each other, while Kaneko kinda draws them all same-looking and always with the "deadfish-eyed" look. But to say he's straight up better is going a little overboard. Kaneko's artstyle is extremely recongnizeable and his anatomy is toptier, among other things.
