I always found it funny how John Hurt played the opressed Wilson in 1984 but also olayed the oppressor as the chancellor here in V for Vendetta. Talk about a great actor.

Ironic given that the people made the decision for government to save them… At the end of the day, humans would rather subjugate themselves to a higher entity, than control it themselves.

The truth is that V, being an Alan Moore character, would have worked quite well in the "Watchmen" universe as a renegade vigilante chased by the authorities for not following the Keene Act. His interactions with Rorschach would be truly fascinating!

I think Alan Moore said writing V was a challenge, because he was a terrorist from a cause Moore supported. He had to balance making V sympathetic and getting his point across without accidentally glorifying his actions. Do you think he succeed?

One of the BEST political thrillers ever made and one of the best CASTING choice ever made for a character for a film as Hugo Weaving’s portrayal of V is pitch perfect and absolutely incredible even tho we NEVER see his face. His voice alone is exactly the sophisticated, jovial, and cunning sly with a slight sinister edge that PERFECTLY represents and reflects who V’s character is in the film! As well as with his impeccable body language that which brings V to life in the film to showcase how full of life he is in the movie! Perfect casting and perfect character! Love this movie so much!

When the movie adaptation first came out, some people were whining that they "had imagined V with a high pitched Joker-style voice". I personally couldn't have disagreed more, Weaving's portrayal was perfect like you said. Maybe the right actor could've nailed the high-pitched approach, but 1. I don't know who that could've been, 2. with the wrong actor that would've rendered V a cartoony caricature.

One thing I love about V is his theatrics. It just become more important today as we see how social uprising, good & bad, rely on larger than life character even more so than the ideal itself. We as a society tend to agree with a "person", a "side" more than a "concept". I find that to be a scary notion, but also an undeniable one.

"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V"

And something that should be kept in mind in these recent days, as a lots of individuals, movements, corporations and governments have been abetting persecution and violation of people's rights and freedoms under the disguise of promoting "equality". I found we need to talk about Kevin so boring and pretentious - (spoiler) the idea of a school-bow and arrow-shooter is just so absurd I couldn’t take anything seriously. The kid was pure evil, no likable characteristic to relate to him and care about him at all. Or the mom. I didn’t even feel bad for her. Only the dad and sister. And hamster lol And I LOVE tinda swinton (spelling idk) I think she’s one of the best actresses of all time. But I just could not get into it, and I love heady movies you’re meant to think about for months and months. I respect people who could get into it and get something from it. Bc it’s not me. I didn’t hate Kevin, I didn’t like Kevin, honestly I was just bored. Possessor was such a great film! Just wanted to add, my top villains would probably be Hans gruber inglorious basterds, Arthur fleck joker (if he’s even really a villain vs antihero), Anton chagur no country for old men, homelander the boys (an almost perfect example), Tyler Durden fight club and Patrick Bateman American psycho… is Snape a villain bc he’s about as sympathetic as it gets 💔

One thing I like to keep in mind is that V in the graphic novel is more morally ambigous of a character, while in the movie he's portrayed as being a charming man in pursuit of righteous revenge. I like the movie, but I think the novel did a better job at posing implicit questions about V's morality and the morality of his actions. When V is done right, people would argue over whether he's a radical activist with a righteous cause or a lunatic terrorist.
@djinnxx7050
@djinnxx7050 6 ай бұрын
What's the difference? One man's radical activist is anothers terrorist. You'll just be arguing your own biases and morality, not V's morality. If I was put on the spot, I can understand V's actions and I don't entirely disagree with them. But the key thing is, I would be more inclined to agree with V because i agree with some of his reasoning, a goverment should fear it's people and a facist goverment must be opposed and fought against. It's not exactly easy to encourage that idea, or fear in the goverment of its people, without giving them something to actually fear, that being their own lives at risk from the people they rule. Like what, you think asking politely is going to work? "Please be kind to us, sir... " Since when has protest ever worked, you think there's a peaceful way to encourage a goverment fear it's people, especially if you're a single man or few in number and denied the ability to organise as explicitly against the current government? I believe the scene where all the people emerge wearing the mask, all sharing the ideal, all willing to fight for freedom, that wouldn't have happened without an act of aggression. V had to make a show, to expose some weakness, to display to others that goverment can be hurt, that the people have a chance. You know, "if it bleeds, it means we can kill it.", so whilst I disagree with blowing up buildings, especially the historic or iconic architecture of London, I understand the reason for it and I can't say I wouldn't also come to the conclusion that it needs to be done to encourage those who are willing join in that fight if they see there's a chance. I'd probably be a little more selective about it but that would be to my detriment, there are some iconic buildings that stand as an icon of goverment, the thing you're opposing, and it just makes sense to target those icons. It sends the message loud and clear. I think after that particular paragraph, I'm probably going onto a list, if I wasn't already. Remind me to never purchase a bag of fertiliser from B&Q using chip and pin. But, there are groups who do pretty much the same things, and I don't agree with their actions because I disagree with their motives and their ideology. It's a funny old thing, hypocrisy, isn't it... To put it simply, when it comes to me, a secularist can probably get away with things that I'd tear a theocrat apart for. That's just my bias, I can still understand the reasoning behind the theocrats actions and even sympathise, but I despise his idoeolgy and intentions so his actions are less tolerable. Nether are great but if you have to choose the lesser of two evils, I'd take the one that doesn't perform evil acts in the name of an imaginary tyrant, but to oppose and overthrow a real one. Not all secularists have ideologies I tolerate though, communists for example, I despise them immensely but I suppose I'd take them over Christian nationalists or Islamists, or Zionists. I guess the tldr is that V's nature, whether radical or terrorist, depends on you. Seperate the emotion from the language, if that's the correct way of putting it, and they're the same thing. A radicalised individual willing to do some morally questionable things to get shit their way.

A lot of media is quick to disregard it as just chaos, but it was really refreshing to read Moore place his beliefs into the book I’m not an anarchist but it was interesting to see a perspective that wasn’t just “anarchism bad because chaos” Great video man

It’s kind of a stupid comic in all truth. It’s exaggerated and reflects the authors biases of how things would occur if such a scenario were to occur, but in reality it would be more akin to people being more willing to support the new regime without question. Also, any revolution will be destroyed due to the advancement of technology (Internet) discovering their whereabouts.

Anarchism has neuances sure but IMO it will lead to even more Chaos even if you somehow managed to make sure it works, I don't think its practical to assume that just because you removed the State and somehow found a way to reorganise society that it would somehow stop all its woes (be it Anarcho Socialist, Primitive ect), I mean its from Chaos and Lack of Central Rulership that made some of the most tyranical and broken states too, without a State to make sure that Rules are followed, the Honestly Rule typical of Anarchism IMO is not really gonna make people any safer in practice.

@@malbasedvalentine3210TBF to Alan, every Author has a Bias just look at say Tolkien, but while I agree that Alan beats you over the head with Anarchism, at the very least he makes the ending Vauge enough for people of any ideological perscription to interpret but IMO if this is realistic it would be as bleak as what happened before Norsefire took office, with its Remnants and everyone else Vaying for Power which happened IRL after a Tyranical Regime was toppled, The French Revolution Began the sameway with Progressives Rebelling against the Old Order but then the Jacobins came in and introduced the Terror, then Napoleon then the Burbons got back in charge which could happen here, Now Imagine if the Instigators of that had No Plans after what comes after the Monarchy was toppled. (People tend to lump the opposition to a Tyranical Government into one group when in reality they are Lots of Different people with Different views on where to take Society next.)

@@forickgrimaldus8301never claimed no author have bias. I’m just saying that those who look at this comic or film as “truth” are naive. Also, the fact that the “right wing fascists” gained influence and power after the destruction, gives you enough context clues to show you that the opposite were in charge and fumbled it tremendously. This coincides with the real world where old school liberals are fumbling it with the their more radical side, and the more radical side are fumbling it with the average joes who in turn run to the their enemies. This is what happens when one so arrogant to understand the people around you, and instead remain isolated with fellow yes-men (Moore). V himself is the contradiction to what he’s trying to achieve, it’s almost laughable as he’s doing the work for the government, because he’s the boogyman the government has been trying to get the people to blame for the hardships of the past. All in all Alan Moore should tremble knowing his work is the prediction of the liberalism’s fall of power, and the rise of the fascist right like myself.

This video was very entertaining and informing. I have only viewed the film, yet I can tell you that it is verily one worth watching. A work of art from the visionary Wachowskis and James Mcteigue. Despite not getting to see his visage, V is a very compelling character, and that is primarily thanks to the versatile and vigorous acting of Hugo Weaving. I was already convinced that he was a tremendous and valuable actor when I watched his performance as the vile virus Agent Smith, who I consider to be one of cinema's best villains, akin to the likes of the vivifying and villainous version of the Joker played by the late Heath Ledger. Although, I think that most of the vox populi agrees with my views.

I never read the comic, seeing only the movie, but I heard about it from a friend a long time ago in contrast to the movie, and I'm happy to see both brought into analytical view with your brand of objectivity. Thoroughly insightful and interesting analyzing on a story with a flawed hero who might not have had much choice for pushing his country out of it's fear-filled complacency with that madman who sat alone in his cage. 20:25 I agree with everything except this bit here. Anarchy is not chaos. Anarchy is simply the absence of government. There can still be restrictions of SOME kind, but chaos is total absence of order. These terms are not strictly synonymous with one another. A government can still technically exist within a chaotic society, believe it or not, as long as the government puts absolutely no restrictions to quell the chaos whatsoever.

I think the one you really need to do is Andrew Detmer (Chronicle). First, it’s a terrible shame the studios and directors couldn’t agree on a sequel because Chronicle is my favorite superhero movie ever. I think Andrew deserves a place here because he’s basically an ODE to every mass-murderer/ school shooter who’s been eating shit their entire lives and finally SNAPPED. The concept of the Apex Predator and how Andrew’s powerlessness, trauma, and loss contributed to his slow descent into madness is very similar to Anakin Skywalker’s own tragedy. A good man corrupted by his own incredible power and the evil things people do for love and the moral boundaries we all might cross to save the ones we care about, even at the expense of our own sanity/soul. I think Chronicle is a masterpiece of a film and one of the best Supervillain origin stories I’ve ever watched and I think Andrew deserves a place here for the evils he’s committed and the deaths he caused.

Anarchy sings sweet but I have not doubt it tastes foul. I'm not saying Norsefire is right by any means. At first I thought Alan Moore was just a spoilsport for hating the adaptations of his works. Then I actually took them in and noticed the messages he conveyed in his writing and characters and realized it would only make sense for him to hate the adaptations. Hollywood is taking these deep, critical, and in some cases prophetic stories and dressing them up with pretty actors and fancy effects to sell them while stepping all over the ideas they're meant to inspire.
