a lot of people didn't like those new spyro games but i appreciated them, they had a cool story, cool setting, and reallly liked the art style of the last one, dawn of the dragon :3
@remenacance2 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of it stemmed from the unexpected gameplay direction they took from platformer to action rpg. Also that they did the 'turn everything edgy' thing that was popular at the time. I still had fun with this Spyro series; I enjoyed meeting more dragons with actual personalities and Cinder was super cool as a character. I even low key enjoyed the slightly buggy two player cause I got to play with my younger brother. However I will say the story is a bit... Meh? Especially with hindsight if you try playing through it now. The gameplay was also very mid. Although it did improve in later installments, I can't say I was a big fan.

The Legend of Spyro is so tonally different from the Spyro I grew up with, but I do so love the atmosphere and uniquely dark and mysterious mood it fosters. Eternal Night was my first, I think this plays during the dream sequences where you speak to the Chronicler and get new abilities. This track is by far the most memorable for me. Hearing the translated Latin words is so interesting.
@joshuawalsh32552 жыл бұрын
The Legend of Spyro trilogy is distinctly more high fantasy that the others, which is why it goes for more classical music. The other Spyro titles don't take themselves seriously, while these games did, and stick out like a sore thumb because of it. I love them to death. A major part of my childhood nostalgia is tied up in these games, and learning to love them over again helped me out greatly during the rougher parts of my teenage experience. Compliments to the patron who suggested this, and thank you for the video!
@Trecherousbeast2 жыл бұрын
Hearing these lyrics it’s clear that this song is about The Chronicler learning about the Night of Eternal Darkness! This level is when you meet The Chronicler, who is a wise old dragon that’s been hinted at to have lived since the beginning of time. He writes books that “chronicle’s” individual dragon’s histories. The Night of Eternal Darknes, is said to be an eclipse that makes the dead rise, and is the window of opportunity for Malefor (main antagonist) to escape from his prison. It’s also the main theme of the game. You hear it in the main menu. During the cutscene when you first meet The Chronicler, he’s VERY gloomy and seems to have given up on something. He wants Spyro to stay with him in The Celestial Caves, because he doesn’t want the last line of defense against Malefor (who is definitely, for sure going to be released) to die during the Night of Eternal Darkness, but Spyro wants to save his friend, Cynder, who was recently kidnapped and demands that The Chronicler take him to her. Especially since he won’t show what happens to Cynder using his books (if I remember, the books only show a dragons past and what’s currently happening. They don’t tell the future).

Also Mark Hamill as Malefor. Gary Oldman for Ignitus, etc. Really an all-star cast given a pretty solid trilogy plot line for the time, but since how different it was tonally to older Spyros and how it the last game felt sort of a mix between classic GoW and an anime-like story it was pretty much a recipe for failure back when the set was released unfortunately. Which is a damn shame because while I did play some older Spyro games (particularly the GBA Crash Vs Spyro game and some of the DS titles) The Legend of set to me was my sort of childhood Spyro experience and is my favorite set of Spyro titles to have ever released personally. That being said, I’m more of a RPG gamer than a platformer fan so the focus of The Legend series just vibes with me better than the other titles.

You would totally love some more tracks from the Legend of Spyro series, the three games have AMAZING soundtrack. Especially the "main theme" of them always gives me the chills, it's just so beautiful. I'm not sure what the actual name of the track is, but it plays in the title screen of the "A New Beginning" game and in some of its cutscenes. It's also the theme of one area in "Dawn of the Dragon", and I think also can be heard in "The Eternal Night" at one point? But yeah, these games have OST you would never imagine to be in a Spyro game, which makes it even more interesting how they really tried to go for this darker, cinematic approach on Spyro's story and I love it.

Being a super mega Spyro fan despite never having much chance to play one of the games all about him (i've only played Skylanders but that barely counts,) i adored this dark trilogy. I haven't looked back on it since my first watch on a playthrough of all three games, but i remembered loving the dark and mystic world Spyro and the other dragons lived in. It was like a near grimmdark fairytale about dragons that didn't include humans. Just dragons. Dragons everywhere and teen me LOVED THE TENSION. The music absolutely played a part in my love for the games. I half understand why many old fans didn't like it at the time, but i was engrossed in the story, figuring out why everything was happening and where it was gonna go next, the style didn't bother me much either since i just loved Spyro content too much to see much wrong with it. I wish we had more vibes like this in games, more of this dark fantasy that isn't just human(oid) focused like the Elderscrolls, Witcher, GoW etc (They're great games, i just want more feral elements. There isn't enough of it.)

I did not expect Marco to review music from _Spyro._ I'm quite shocked! 😱 But holy moly. This _Spyro: The Eternal Night_ was one of my most memorable games besides the original three. What made it special was that it had that dark, shallow shift compared to other previous Spyro games. It had that _Elden Rings_ vibe in a sense. Back then, I didn't pay attention to the music much because I was very young when I played it. But now that I have some awareness of music, I must say, it's pretty adoring to hear it. Very classical and high quality. Even to this day, I still have that PS2 disk of _Spyro: The Eternal Night_ with the PS2 console next to it. It's my personal relic which I cherish dearly. 🙏 I'm certain there are more good Spyro music to be reviewed but I can't remember at the moment. It's been 15+ years since I last played it.

The trilogy of these Spyro games took Spyro and made him a lot more mature of a character and storytelling, hence the music also being much more mature and dramatic. This song a part of it is in the start of the menu of the game. and it that particular part, as you say talk about the Flaring of the swift sun, and that is not a good thing, which is true because the purpose of the antagonist of this game , the ape King Gaul, Whant to free form the Well of Souls the falling angel and main antagonist, Malefor, which is the Purple dragon before Spyro, that turn back againt his own kind, but you dont know about Malefor until much later in the game, Only knowing whit the previous game that The Dark Master. And ending unresolving in the finish of the main menu, really creates this tencion and somber feeling, that lures you to whant to start playing even more! the rest is explained fantasticly by @Trecherousbeast really"

I wouldn't get your hopes up for similar music in all the games. The Legend of Spyro trilogy was a really weird change of pace from all the others, and went in a darker and serious direction, whereas all the previous games stuck to being very lighthearted. I honestly can't say I agree with the change seeing as how there's more than enough games like that, but this particular track does go pretty hard. As for how many Spyro games there are, Caddicarus made a long-anticipated video on the *entire* series. But in terms of console games: -The PS1 trilogy -The two PS2 games that continued on the PS1 continuity (One is plain awful, the other is alright from what i've heard. Though general views are kinda bad-to-mid). -The Legend of Spyro trilogy, that act as a reboot of the entire series, going into a darker fantasy territory with decently expansive lore and themes of infant genocide right off the bat in game 1. The first one is generally considered mid-to-positive from what I know, the second (Eternal Night) more on the lower end of things, but Dawn of the Dragon seems to be a light co-op Hack and Slash with Dragons, developed by a different studio. And it goes pretty dang big in scale. I fondly remember a scene of the first boss losing its arm, retreating, and later using a tower from a city as a replacement. There's also Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, but that's... Spyro in name only. Still a very fondly-remembered series, mind you, and imaginative and colourful in its own right (and rough on the wallet-- can't deny that). But Spyro fans don't like his purple-painted pug with horns look in those games. And there's also a number of handhelds.

Fun fact: Latin is strongly associated with dragons because the word "dragon" itself comes directly from the Latin word "draco," which means "huge serpent" or "dragon," thus making Latin the linguistic root for the term in most Western cultures; essentially, when people think of dragons, they are often referencing the Latin word for it.

First 3 games are still the best. And the recent remake, the Reignited Trilogy is THE best way to experience said first three games. As for the Legend trilogy, it was...weird. It tried to be more "adult" and more "dark", and this is very much reflected in the music. Suffice to say, the trilogy wasn't a massive sucess.
