The context behind this song is that Ignitus, the dragon who saved Spyro as an egg, who later found him living with the dragonflies and revealed to him that he himself (spyro) is a dragon, who would go on to be a teacher and a parental figure to Spyro in a way that no one else had ever been, dies while bringing Spyro and Cynder (who's a whole story in and of herself) through a wall of fire in order to ensure that they make their way to the main villain of the story (Malefor). Spyro is going through a lot of conflicting emotions in this level. He's deeply sorrowful and in a state of intense grief for the loss of Ignitus, he has searing rage for the fact that the war Malefor has waged has taken Ignitus from him, he has painful self-loathing because he feels like Ignitus' death is partially his own fault, he feels horror at himself because just after Ignitus' death he becomes so enraged that he becomes 'Dark Spyro' (in essence, becoming like Malefor - it's a whole thing) and if it weren't for Cynder being there with him he might have stayed that way, and he feels thankful for Cynder being there with him reassuring him that he isn't alone in the world and that no matter what she'll be there for him. This track sort of goes through all of those emotions, which is why there are very few repeated phrases. And of course, on top of all of that, the level design itself is a wasteland of magma and rock that had once been full of life. This is one of the things I love about the soundtracks of the Legend of Spyro triology - the songs not only convey the emotion of Spyro in that moment, but they also convey the atmosphere of the level very well.

It's sad Spyro got lost to time for some unknown reason. I think the cartoonish look is what drow away people at first glance without giving them the chance to hear the beautiful sublime music this game has to offer. When I first played the trilogy I still couldn't understand why the game choose such classical deap, dark, thought provocative music. It's weird. But that good type of weird. The scope for these games were a bit too much for the budget and time they were given. A lot of cut content and not enough time to really test everyone out which is why the gameplay is flashy and looks good visually but becomes very repetitive and sometimes a pain a to play through(especially in The Eternal Night). Still loves these games for their story but I still wonder what these games could have been if they had been given more time to develop.

The soundtrack is one of the reasons why no matter how much I play this game and how many times I beat it, I never get tired of it. The whole trilogy has such a superb OST and although Dawn of the Dragon reuses a lot of the songs from the first two games, it uses them in such a way that makes them even more effective than previously on A New Beginning and The Eternal Night. And the new ones made just for Dawn of the Dragon are astoundingly just a great as all others. I'll die on this hill, but I'll always state that The Legend of Spyro trilogy and Dawn of the Dragon in particular do NOT deserve any of the hate they get. A lot of care and love was put into these games by the developers and the soundtrack alone shows a lot of it. They didn't need to go nearly as hard with the OST but they did anyway, and it is one of the things that makes the journey through this trilogy such an epic one, in my book.
@Azdaja13 Жыл бұрын
There's literally so many motifs and references to other music tracks in this one song: First, there's a bit of "This Broken Soul" from The Eternal Night in the background, which is the credits theme of that game (very sad song). Which is then broken up by two bits of "Guide You Home (I Would Die For You)", which is the credits theme for Dawn of the Dragon, which is far more uplifting, but then you get bits between of "Dragon City Golem Encounters" like a constant reminder of Malefor. I swear there's also bits of "Black Powers" in here too. To tease the situation, saddest scene of the series happens, now Spyro and Cynder are stuck way behind enemy lines in Mordor, having to trudge onward alone toward where Malefor is holed up as the apocalypse is happening.

To me this is the saddest moment of the trilogy. Burned lands is a dark, lifeless place where Spyro and Cynder cannot get out from since they cannot cross the belt of fire. Besides, the fact that they have not been able to stop the destryer, Ignitus has died and Spyro has had to leave Sparx behind for his own sake (for the first time in the trilogy) makes of this the saddest and lowest point in the game. Such a beautiful soundtrack. God Bless TLOS. My life would not have been the same without it.

One of my favorites from the trilogy. A very deep and profound theme for what's basically one of the final areas of the game with a lot of stakes at risk that's after one of the biggest setbacks you can have in a plot. This theme and the entire area surrounding it was just perfectly designed to suck you in to the moment of what was happening in the game's world. But yeah, very reflective like you said in the video. Yet another great analysis Marco. Can't wait to see more.

The Latin: Vobis male sit, malae tenebrae Orci, quae omnia bella devoratis: Tam bellum mihi passerem abstulistis O factum male! O factum male! Ergo etiam cum me supremus adederit ignis Vivam, vivam, parsque mei multa superstes erit. The latin really informs the tonal changes. It swells when lamenting over grief. Then it becomes dissonant when describing the rage felt over the loss. Often with these soundtracks, the choir will try to compliment in-game audio and visuals. In “Cynder Convexity”, the booming, dissonant sound of the choir you heard mirrors the sound they chose for the enemy dragon flying above you when it roars down fire. It sounds a loud, dissonant scream, and the choir imitates it. Visually, in order to compliment the intensity of the choir, the roaring, and the fire- they applied a disorienting motion blur to the screen when the player is near it. They also added a rippling/wavy effect to the air to show the intense heat coming off of it. The combination of the visuals and sound effects with the choir isn’t something I see very often in video games, but I notice it a lot with these Legend of Spyro osts. In a theatre, you can physically feel the intensity of the choir. But in a game, you can’t. So they have to get creative with how to amplify the desired feeling. The classic Spyro games don’t tackle dark themes and focus on the fantastical, humorous world a dragon might live in with all of it’s neighboring fantasy delights like unicorns and magical gems. The audience who grew up with the original games disliked the change in tone when the Legend of Spyro was introduced, saying it was following the 2000’s edge hype train and they didn’t want that. Personally, I feel like the Legend of Spyro seems less like the 2000’s edge hype train and more like the style of an ‘epic tale’ such as Lord of the Rings. Seems like a reasonable route to explore since they are dealing with dragons, after all. Either way, this trilogy had thoughtful themes and beautiful scores. That made them worth the price in my book. Everyone has different things they look for.

I'm glad you cover so much of the OST of this trilogy, it's really different than almost every other OST I've heard and it's such a good game. I was surprised how good the music was when I heard it myself considering how much constraint there was during development whether it be from budget or from deadlines. Did you ever plan to play any of the games in this trilogy? I would suggest playing through just Dawn of the Dragon if you don't want to commit too much time to it instead of playing the entire trilogy. The first two games were a lot of tedious, constant fighting, but Dawn of the Dragon delves more into the story and puzzle solving plus it has some fun new mechanics that the previous games didn't have.

Context(SPOILERS) The Burned Lands are midst the fiery trails that the titanic "Destroyer" left on its way. Spyro and Cynder have to cross it to reach the big bad since their plan to stop the Destroyer failed, although they destroyed it's heart he still continues its path.
