Yeah, and thats even tho it could have been really easy to just add them in and polish them up. Unfortunately the studio is more focused on making crap 5$ kits than actually improving the base game because of their monetary system.

It just seems realy cute how kids can be romantically stupid and wholesome at the same time since they dont fully understand what love is yet or how to approach it. Though i would say that i hope that some day the future, they would do one sided romantic relationships where only one sim has a crush and the other isnt interested.

I thought it looked like a test for rigging! (In case someone doesn't know, rigging is like putting muscles and bones to a figure, it helps to animate, but if done incorrectly, it can make the movement look broken, inhuman or just bad)

I could see it getting icky real quick. From children getting the flirty mood (which basically means "horny" for adults), to a child's crush aging up before them leaving them with a romantic relationship with a teen or even adult

But if it's done a certain way it can be alright but I guess the Sims team wanted to play it safe. Personally, I don't care about children having crushes, I think it's cute

I wish they implemented it. The romance bar could be "budding romance" permanently until they are teens. I wish I learned programming cuz i would do it myself if I could.

THE CHILD ROMANCE IS TOO CUTE, kids play family all the time and whatnot. I wish they kept those animations🥲, like the child sims can get married" to their best friends and have a sentiment like "child sweethearts" or "first loves" or something like that. Hopefully the rumored romantic pack coming, there will be ALOT more actual good romantic interactions with sims, children included. I would def like to see more before animations like the sims 2, those were great

@aikesscs Kids get crushes too, like a lot of kids start to realise they "like" other people from as early as 8 yo if not younger. Childhood crushes could be introduced into the game quite easily, but instead of it building "romance" it builds friendship or a new relationship like trust or something. Not everything is sexual you know.

The sound test looks like how you react when you have your ears tested at a hospital, giving a sign everytime you hear a sound. My guess it is from an unused feature from the Get to Work doctor's career.

theory on the front flip animation, it might have been used to test animations that change a sims location once the animation ends, making the portal part of the name make a little bit more sense. i don’t know why it’s a front flip though lol, probably just a developer messing around

I don't think the animations are broken. I think that the mod you use for it just separates the code for multi object/Sim animations and since the reference to the other is removed, the location to snap to is lost. For example, the code for touching the shoulder gets confused because of the mod, seeking out "shoulder" but the only shoulder available is your own. It's too complete an animation to be a bug made by EA prior to scrapping. And because there is no doorbell to touch, the Sim's arm doesn't lift at all.

Oh yes, I'm fully aware of that. The same thing happens when you play used animations using this mod that have sims "touch" other sims, like regular hugging, kissing, carrying, etc. The pose player mod shows its limitation when it comes to these types of animations

The Doorbell animation likely doesn't work because it expects a target for the inverse kinematics to be specified, since it can't find one, the animation fails. This is the same for those bed animations, it doesn't know the other sim exists when you force the animation, whereas in the actual game with actual use it would.

Good point for the bed animations, but I don't think that's the case for the doorbell. I tried playing several existing object-related animations with the mod and most of the time their arms don't deform because the lack of any "target" objects like most physical social animations. They'll still act like they're using it properly even though the objects are absent, so I think I still believe that the doorbell animation is just that unfinished.

The baby to toddler aging up by itself is so sad looking 😭😭 I had forgotten it was my sims baby’s birthday and it literally happens to her that interaction and I just felt so bad about it! Poor baby learning to walk by themselves 😭

I miss the interactions on bed too. On a positive note, I see a lot of new (to me) and fun animations, while I play a werewolf. When they fly into a rage, things get wild. :)

The animation that shows them cranking something goes back to previous Sims versions where they had an organ grinder, where an entertainment Sim would play a crank organ to make music, I believe it was in the original Sims and maybe in Sims 2, not sure about Sims 3, but since the animation is in Sims 4, perhaps they were going to have an organ grinder but changed their minds, also some of the range of motion animations are used by an exercise mod that lets sims workout to music on a radio, I recently got the mod and have been seeing some of my sims doing a morning workout doing some of those motions, I just never knew the animations were always in the game.

Really interesting video. In most, I can only offer speculation. However, in 5:08 part, the animation (at least how it seems to me) isn't unused as children who have A in school can brag about their grades. They use this animation when doing so. 5:19 This one is called "Give Cold Shoulder" or something like that. That interaction can be used to reduce the romance bar, so yeah, in the end, this goes unused. Get Together's unused animations are interesting. After all, this expansion pack came with emotional texts and used to have the interactions to influence relationships (now it has been brought to the base game). It seems like they were going for more phone interactions (wanting to bring back break-up texts from The Sims 3). Remember, one of the things they were thinking of bringing to the pack was phone covers (seen on the cover), but they didn't make it in the end and eventually came with a base game update. So, either the interaction wasn't completed or they feared that the phone menu was going to be very cluttered. Plus the Test Reconciler Junk, it seems like they were going to add in some interaction where sims tries to mediate a fight between two sims as for me, it looks like they are near a fight. It's interesting indeed, as influencing relationships, as I told, was part of the pack. Trying to fix bad relationships eventually came with Parenthood, but it didn't include active reconciling. "Test Animation Portal" on 12:02 is random, but I have a theory. In previous games, when a NPC sim tried to get to a place they couldn't, they'd just teleport. The Tragic Clown in The Sims 1 even has an animation where he puts a hole on the ground and jumps into it to teleport. In The Sims 4, they don't do that. So, unlike in previous games, you can get a repo-man go away without taking any items by removing all the doors allowing them to enter inside the house. It's base game after all, so my theory is simple: this one could have been used by NPC sims to teleport. That would make repo-people even scarier! Oh, they have no access... Oh no! Chess ones, I feel like sims could have been able to clean the board without sitting down. But yeah, cool video. And even those I though have to be in the game were quickly debunked, so good job on that too!

it still makes no sense to me, as a person who spends a lot of time reading in bed or laying around looking at my phone, why any sort of relaxing-on-bed related interactions (whether alone or with a partner) weren't included in the game. especially when sims 3 had a ton of them :/

Idk if anyone will see this as I've commented 2 weeks after the upload, but certain animations (like the massage one) will look broken because the animation is trying to find the bone points for the other Sim, for example the animation for bed relaxing massages. This is also why if Sims are too far it'll look like the other Sim is breaking their bones. It'll only properly work if it's in an actual interaction.

Because EA wanted to rush the game out and make money rather than care for quality. Something which ironically could have made them more. A good quality game has a long shelf life. I can't see anyone wanting to play The Sims 4 in future after a decade of frustration and disappointment, but The Sims 1, 2, and 3 are still being played 24 years after the release of that first game. :-)

Of course it's nowhere near as committed and serious as the relationship between adults or even older teens, but it's totally a thing that happened. The animation at 12:07 is probably just a test to see how the animation rig performs, but I believe that the animation is very similar to some of the animations in the trailers for the Portal games (which were very popular at the time of development), which might be why it's called that!

Awww, the animation of being broken up with by text is heartbreaking. I almost want it in the game, but then, I'd have to see the smile on my Sims fade... Maybe the standing chessboard animations are for cleaning up the table even if you have no intentions to play ? Something like "ok, playtime is over now, let's tidy up". That's certainly something I could get behind, homes are never messy enough for my taste in this game... Also, the children's "range of motion" animations would be cool, *if polished*, in a context where adult Sims teach kids to be active. You know, as a "look at what your body can do" thing ? I think active adult Sims could use that type of bonding experience with their children. Lastly : standing desks would actually be nice ! I had never thought of that, but I'm sure active Sims would love to not sit when they have to work on the computer ! They could get a moodlet from it, I'm sure. I really appreciated how you did research for this video, but also mention mods that come close. It's very interesting, and I wish more Sims video were so thorough and thoughtful.

Your videos are fantastic! I loved this! Is there a way to get a list of all social interactions in game? Like the list of animations you have? I feel like there's a lot of individual interactions out there that I have missed and it would be cool for you to do a dive into some of the overlooked ones (like cross pack interactions and stuff).

Thank you! Try checking out the "XML Extractor" tool for sims 4. It lets you extract all the game files into a list of notes with the coding lines inside, like interactions, animations, etc. If you're not familiar with modding or programming, it might be hard to navigate at first but you'll get the gist of it eventually

Adding to the theories regarding the front flip animation -- I think it's a version of the animation they ended up using to have Sims get into boats in Island Living! Because Sims don't climb into the boats like normal people in the game -- they disappear and flip into the boat! So maybe it's related to that? Also, yes, can we please have some of the bed-related romantic interactions in the game, we need more cute romance content (that isn't made by Pancake and MizoriYukii).

Lol, the elevator music version of the Smash Bros Brawl theme threw me off so bad. It fits perfectly, but I didn't realize what was in the background until about 1:25.

I think the standing chess animations are for when sims clean up chess tables, cuz I've definitely seen sims clean up chess tables while standing.

Now that i think of it, the bed intimate list of unused animation might have been added while developping the lovestruck ep, could be plausible since an ep normally takes 1 to 2 years of dev

The bed animations have been there ever since the game was first released. Even the “pillow talk after woohoo” mod that use these animations was made on 2016.

I think why they didn't utilize this cause with the Sims 4 they brought out a whole new engine and system. Some of the animations look like they could've been copied from old games. I noticed in Sims 2 and 3 that they did use the same animation just with a different flare tweak. I think maybe they realize that maybe they can't incorporate copies due to the engine. An old game that I played came out around the Sims 3 era and they just announced a second installment (I know that long wait and the game is actually unplayable unlike the sims 4) they stated that it was so hard trying to incorporate some old animations, codes, and voice lines due to a new engine. they said that engines are more high-tech than before and also that it took a while to get the hang of things with the old animations. They looked like what some of the broken animations looked and said it was so hard to correct them. I believe EA probably had issues and it is believable due to them being an old company that had its huge peak back then. PC companies tend to have more issues like this. Let's hope they bring out new animations like the relaxing and sitting on knees now. This year and last year they seem to bring out stuff that was wanted for so long. It seems they realize they need to push these out if they want to keep their fanbase. Not like a other company franchise that I dealt with💀💀
