Analyzing Venom Gun from Return to Castle Wolfenstein

About the caliber of the Venom Gun, the only 12.7mm caliber that was available during WWII, that would be compact enough to be used in such a light weapon, would be the .500 Jeffery dangerous game hunting caliber. And it would make sense since it's a German caliber which was known as the 12.7x70mm Schüler or .500 Schüler before being adopted by W.J.Jeffery in England in 1927. It could have been chambered in 13x64mmB used in the MG 131 aircraft machine gun, which is also a German cartridge small enough for a man-portable weapon, but it's not 12.7mm. The only other 12.7mm/13mm/13.2mm rounds used by the Axis powers are the 12.7x81mmSR Breda-SAFAT or .50 Vickers Export, the 13.25x92mmSR Tank und Flieger, and the 13.2x99mm Hotchkiss Long/Type 93, but those are way too big. The 12.7x99mm or .50 BMG and 12.7x108mm DShK are not of German or other Axis countries' origin. However 7.92mm would make sense, be it 7.92x57mm Mauser, 8x60mm S DWM, or 8x64mm S Brenneke, they are similar to the 7.62x51mm NATO or .308 Winchester used in the famous M134 Minigun.

One of the best weapons I ever played with. Have been searching for this kind of video. By the way, ther german name of the gun "Giftspritze" is much more at poiont and richer in meaning ("venom sprayer" or "venom piss").

Though game says it's 7.92 or 12.7, looking at the model I think it's none of them. 12.7 is itself too big and has huge recoil. It's also hard to fit 500 7.92 rounds into one small magazine. Devs didn't think too much about it. Cool weapon anyway, just like the game.

Even though it's pretty much a waste of ammo, I just cannot stop myself from blasting the enemies until they become minced meat.
