After Fxg3 it looks like white could just trade the night for the rook and create a mating net with the bishop and the queen.

Hehe, I vaguely remember the next game - spoiler alert: Anand found a way to trap his opponent's queen :D As for Gelfand being negatively affected by the result of the match, I don't think so: He went on to have incredible results for a couple of years, perhaps playing the best chess of his career. (Well, obviously losing a WCC didn't make him happy, but he certainly didn't seem to become any less motivated.)
