Returning to Anarchy Online in 2023 it conjured up many memories of the old backyards. I delve into the history of the backyards (Noob Island or Starting zones) and follow how Anarchy Online has changed throughout the years!

Great quality video mate! I really enjoyed it thank you, keep it up! Noob Isle had just come put when I started so that my first memory and the one I would choose, I still have toons saved there. I didn't mind arete but it suddenly clicked what was wrong with it when you talked about the lack of wildfire and greenery! It's lost that sense of new world to be explored and somewhere to just exist. My friend that introduced me to the game had started in the original backyards, so he actually got me to run through noob isle real fast and show me the ropes in a Rome back yard instead, and that jazz soundtrack still slaps! First time I saw other players in game blew my mind, I'll never forget it. Thanks for the nostalgia!

ohhh thank you. Nostalgia hit. I played in 2001, my first MMORPG and it was an amazing experience. The sense of a huge world hit me when I exited Rome into the countryside and Galway Shire. Hooking up with a random passer-by who took me and another on a mission which seemed miles and miles away. My MP joining the 'Hand of Chronos' and MP only guild which had elements of RP, and getting lumbered with leading it briefly when our leader, Spookymonster, left the game.

Thank you. This video is a rare gem to me, you managed to perfectly bring back the feeling of those AO backyards from 2001. I had not played video games that much at the time. Once i installed this, i forgot to sleep, i forgot pretty much everything about planet earth, for many years. I dont regret any of it. It was that good. Those memories are just as real as having lived in another country for several years. And your video proved it to me. You described exactly how i remember it, your choice of words to describe the landscapes, the music, the atmosphere. You were there too. In this amazing place that was AO. See you buddy. Dude that's a kind message! I remember those sleepless nights too. I try to recreate some of the nostalgic times playing this game. It appears we share a few.

I only started playing around 2004 when they came out with the Newbie Island. But I also spend some time in the backyard on some of my fresh characters. To this day this is probably the coolest and most unique MMORPG ever made. I come back to this game every now and then. Just a week ago in fact and now I find myself once again on the vast surface of Rubi Ka and still find new things in this 22 year old game. Awesome video mate! Oh yeah I started out as Neutral and then became Omni which I am still.

Great to hear. I wish I kept a harddrive of all the old footage from the release as many memories are lost over time. I return every few months to try and relive the good times

this mmorpg when i first played it i totally forgot time and real life. It was as if I had passed through a portal, and that I was totally somewhere else. It seemed so real. I often secretly dream that Funcom wakes up and releases Anarchy Online 2, instead of obsessing over other bland stuff. Come on, let's believe it! Thank you for this video!!!

Great video! I didn't know the backyards were the original starting zone. I was a latecomer to AO, around 2009. It provided escapism at the time and has gone on to shape my life.

Late to the party, but have played this game from launch. My personal preference was and is the original backyard. I started as Omni, and these days, clan. But the variations of backyards from expansions, the original was always the best IMO.

Which? All of them. They all make sense, story wise and could easily be adapted to become a decent tutorial and early source of decent loot. Arriving at the space station, it has several NPCs that can be used to explain the background story and explain the main features of the game, the player can then choose faction and exit without gaining xp or gear. Crashing into noob island players can do the first few quests to gain weapons, most basic nanos and the glasses, backpack, belt and first axp level. From there they are sent to Arete to gain armor, additional nanos, belt, NCUs and faction gear. With an emphasis on making it a tutorial and source of decent starting gear and not a quick leveling place. While AO has improved a lot over time, it is still mainly focused on retaining the existing player base at the expense of renovating it. The fast leveling, expensive gameplay and pay to win shop have contributed more to the games loss of players than the rampant bugs and exploits.

ALL OF THEM. they make sense in sequence. Space station, crashlanding on noob island, being transfered to Arete and visiting the SL starter area before being allowed to go into the SL. Original backyards open to all. With slight adjustments they could come in sequence to give the players some decent starting gear and some upgrades before Subway.

I do not enjoy clowns. Clowns scare me, clowns are creepy, clowns are known to eat children named George in the past, and some clowns I assume are good people. James Clown is such a clown and is a pillar of the Anarchy Online Science Fiction Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game community. Meeting him has changed my life for the better, I was lost and now I am found. Additionally, he is gorgeous, beautiful, handsome, and sexy. You know the type.
