All the negatives pointed out in the review made me more excited about the book 😅. I've just finished part 2 of Anathem. It's challenging but mind-blowing at the same time. Total mixed feelings right now.

I absolutely love this comment! It is an amazing intelligent novel that just pissed me off. lol

I don't know about you, but I see 500 subs, so Congratulations!! I hope more people will sub in the future. Yes, you made it clear, it's all about the entertainment. I think, Anathem was such a great and clever idea, that it was wasted by getting too long and boring with hard scifi stuff. As you said, no character development, no world building, the ending was not amazing, the dialogues were so tedious. The only cool thing for me was the monastery itself and how it was divided and the mistery behind this object in the sky. After that, nothing was left to enjoy. It was really not fun.

I did see 500. Thank you. If I want a lesson I will read a book on that subject. Just not a fun book 🤷🏼♂️

wow, yeah, I think this is his best story to date. I read it on deployment years ago. The entire story is an exploration of what it might be like to encounter something differing in minute but significant ways. This story pulled me out of reality and kept me there the entire time. I don't think intelligence or background knowledge has anything to do with it. It's just audience. I hated Fall; or Doge in Hell, for instance.

@Chairman0Mao I am finding that it is very polarizing. Either you love it or not so much.

502 As I see, hearty handshake and a clap on the back, you have earned it!! And congrats for finishing this thing, a mountain worthy of a flag that says Tad, and Jiun at the top!! I'm curious, and this is a question I may ask in one of my musings later, but when you finish a book like Anathem, that you dislike so much, do you still keep it? Or do you toss it? Donate it?
@tadreadsbooksstuff Жыл бұрын
I still keep it. I have difficulty getting rid of books once I have read them because now they are part of me. It would be like cutting off a finger. I tell my girlfriend that when I die my thousands of books might be worth a couple ten dollars on eBay lol

You probably wish you were a DNFer while trying to finish Anathem. I can’t remember how I came to buy Anathem. I think it was on a blog. Between you and Livriomer not liking this book, I’m definitely too stupid to give it a try. It will be a pretty door stopper. I also have Fall in my book collection. Grozz has Seveneves by him to read this month and I HAVE heard good things about that one from like minded readers. I don’t know if you watch a channel called The Library Ladder but he did a breakdown of Stephenson’s books. Congratulations 🎉, this morning I’m seeing 500 subs!! I’m halfway into Just After Sunset and should finish this week also. Thanks for participating in Super Size Summer! You didn’t enjoy your book but at least you finally got it read!📚

Yes! 500! Thank you! You were very instrumental in getting me noticed when I first started. Now, if it would only start getting cooler outside

Fall will probably be even worse than Anathem. I would suggest you to read snow crash or the diamond age. Those two were the only novels that I really enjoyed.

Thank you! I have heard good things about Snow Crash

My advice is… don’t read anathem. Just go find a summary on the Internet that cuts through the bullshit.
@tadreadsbooksstuff4 ай бұрын
Right! Lol. Maybe if it was like 350 pages. More of a concise story and not so much, look at me and how smart I am.
