This is a great example of professional "singing into the mic". When you blast a note that is really loud and you want the volume and dynamics to stay consistent with everything else you're singing, you shift your mouth so that the microphone only picks up a percentage of your overall voice. The technical term is "dynamic compression", since you're basically doing the same thing as using a Compressor for your vocals, but without actually having the gear itself. It's a useful technique if you're playing on a sound stage with a weak sound system or a sound guy you don't trust, or at a radio station.....

You're exactly right sir. Nicely put. I always called it "mic presence" and never actually knew what effect it was imitating/replicating. The presence being that the singer is aware of his/her volume and adjusts personal distance from the mic accordingly. But yeah man, you nailed it! :D

@SonicChaosControl I know, his voice is amazing... but what's sad is that I saw them in concert a little while ago, and his voice is starting to go. I'm not sure if he was sick or something, but it could be all of the 'shouting' in his songs, or just all of the strain, going between the high and low notes so much. Regardless, Anberlin is awesome.
