Great review, I think it would help that when you say things like “After changing the core I got better performance” you tell us what you actually did. Like what core did you use for n64 and what did you tweek to get the performance you got. What resolution where you able to play Dreamcast and n64 at? Where you able to up the resolution for ps1 to 480p? Those things help alot for us watching.

Thanks for the feedback. I think you make some good points. The N64 was a case of changing the core to the Mupen core with the GlideN64 plugin and then increase the resolution to 640x480. The DV I changed nothing so it’s at native resolution. However on this size screen I don’t think you need much more. PS1 I also just left default for the purpose of an out the box review. But retrospectively I tested and there were zero issues at 480p

The main games I use for frame rate testing are R.C. Pro-Am (NES) and Super Mario Kart (SNES) I noticed the frames are rather choppy upon booting up but after the device warms up (about ten minutes), it does fine (it may be another issue tho)

Went through similar experience with both my rg280m, and rg350p. In the rg280m's case, when I boot up the device, it's cold. So the framerate be choppy for a bit till the device warms up, then it runs fine.

Agree, or I hope ANBERNIC fix it. I don’t know enough about the tech but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible.

I'm one of the people digging into Bluetooth myself. I have no history of this stuff but have willing to learn. They have some issues. Their gui sucks for even connecting said devices because they need to either change how the audio server works or script it to be manipulated when attempting to connect devices. The next issue, from what I'm seeing once you get a headset connected the audio doesn't transfer to that device. I can see on the backend, it's listed as the audio sink but it actually may be a chipset from what I'm reading.

This device has all the potential, but that software holds it back entirely. They not necessarily need to open up their source code to the community, but if they would just take the time to develop a better operating system, that would be enough.

Totally agree, but if they aren’t willing to put the time in to the software why not let the community try things.

The SD card issue is a total bummer, why do i have to worry about losing everything saved in my device and also it not working, the moment it comes out of the box? I wouldn't mind paying 5$ more if the SD card was just better quality.

I just got one of these as a gift and it’s my first introduction into emulated gaming so I’m not too familiar with adding games myself. I wanted to add some N64 games but not sure how. Any tutorial recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

It’s actually really easy. You can simply take out the micro SD card and plug it in to your computer. You will need a USB adapter or SD card reader for this of course. The N64 folder is right there and you copy the games over.

I still carry my rg351mp with me at work.. Its probably been used for 10minutes over the last 6 months.. I never find time! And now I've a Rp4 Pro on its way which probably won't see much light of day either 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thanks! Yes I find that one systems tends to dominate. At the moment I am loving the ODIN2. Although last year my RP3+ got some serious use. I have the RP4PRO that has just arrived and have to say the black version looks amazing.

It really depends on what you want to play. If you want PS, N64 and Dreamcast I would consider going for the Retroid Pocket 2S but that is around $100, the PowKiddy RGB30 is a similar device but will be around $80, so the value here is incredible really.

I didnt liked the software so i tryed to use the fork for batocera and it do the job for me for now . Lot of bugs because it is still in alpha but i could play up to ps1 without problem . The main issue is the battery drainage in sleep mode and the cracling sound if you put it in eco mode .

Batocera on this device would be fantastic. I’ll wait a little longer (like you said it’s still in Alpha). I’d like to see GarlicOS. Just a simple snappy UI
