I bought one for a friend for her birthday. Tip for anyone else buying this as a gift. I took the GBC and GBA's frames into photoshop and added "(her name)'s" to the left of where it says "Game Boy Color/Advance SP". She loves seeing that reminder that it is her's when she plays a game from those systems

@CoulterPeterson thanks. Like I said, highly recommend doing that as a gift. It's not that difficult in any image editing software that supports PNG should be able to do it I already have a R35XX myself but if I had do-overs, I would get this one for myself. It's a significant improvement

@user-zk4xg6gj1t thanks. Honestly, it felt like a fun challenge. She doesn't have a computer so I knew when I gave it to her, that's how it would be forever. So, I just had fun exploring the SD card I also made a custom image for the boot screen. There's lot you can do if you got time
@Lucifronz3 ай бұрын
Just in general, if you have the know-how it's a good idea to set up the system for a friend if you're giving it as a gift. Takes a lot of time and effort to fine-tune things and the more you can set up for them with what you think they'd want (like that custom overlay), the better. These devices are great, but I can see my sibling getting annoyed trying to set all this stuff up, so if I _were_ to ever get them one as a gift I'd make sure it had everything set precisely the way they'd want it ahead of time.

I know this is asking for more SP content but, if you are running Dreamcast and PS1 and such on the SP, can you do a video talking about how you set up those game files? I have the hardest time with the multi-disk games and could not for the life of me get muOS to recognize my m3u files.
@Lucifronz3 ай бұрын
.m3u files are really easy to set up. At least with MuOS. I cannot attest to other firmware or how they view .m3u files. For any multi-disc/multi-track game you essentially just want to put a folder inside of the ROM folder for the system you're using. I was recommended to call the folder .hidden (the . in front hides it, everything after is just personal flavor for file management, so call it what you want). Then put all of the files for your multi-disc games in there. Create a .txt file for them with the exact name you want them recognized as when viewed in MuOS. Open the text file and enter a single line for each disc (not each track, if you have those separate just leave them in .hidden and it will find them with .cue or .gdi files as references). Here's an example for Chrono Cross on PS1, a two-disc game (making assumptions about what the files are all named, they should match YOUR files not what I've typed here): .hidden/Chrono Cross (Disc 1) (USA) (En, Fr, Jp).cue .hidden/Chrono Cross (Disc 2) (USA) (En, Fr, Jp).cue That's it. Save the .txt file, then rename it from .txt to .m3u. Mind you if the game doesn't start you either typed the folder name or the .cue file's name wrong. Just make sure it all matches. Keep in mind some games don't run with some emulators. I made sure when learning to do this to test multiple games just to be sure it wasn't me failing to create the .m3u reference file for MuOS. You do not need to type out the full directory, just the folder inside the ROM directory you're in that MuOS is looking for. If you are using MuOS and this was helpful, come check out the official MuOS Discord, we have a ton of really helpful people there.

@@totally100darthvader7 I'm really picky about those kinds of details, I like a clean organized list wherever I can get it (which is why on PC I have PS2 shortcuts for desktop/Steam made that automatically play the game I want the same way MuOS would if you clicked a game; separate memory card and config files and all), so I asked around on the Discord when I got around to sorting my Dreamcast games and AntiKK gave me a quick response. From there and digging through some other pages talking about .m3u files I was able to experiment and get things working. It looks much nicer on my device now and I even organized a few PS1 multi-disc options I had clogging up my folders, too, though thankfully I had fewer of those I needed to mess with; not that it would have taken long. Once you get the hang of it, it takes literally seconds to finish. It's pretty great.

I love the Anbernic 35xxSP, and muOS. It is the perfect device for GBA and SNES emulation, which are my fav libraries on cheap little devices like it. muOS seems to have the most robust Dreamcast and PSX performance of any cfw that I've used. If it had Kodi, it'd be perfect.

@@notquitekeanu It helps if you don't use a power brick that goes well over 5v and burn out your battery. These are Chinese-manufactured devices, they're designed cheaply and efficiently, not *well.* As long as you understand their limitations and use proper precautions, there is absolutely no reason your system should ever go up in flames like that one genius who made the Reddit post. Not to mention his device was faulty to begin with and was not a standard functional SP.

@@Lucifronz I had thought the same thing, until I saw the report where someone claimed that their device overheated just from charging from their usb port on their PC. I know it’s just one person, and the others did seemingly use improper chargers, but this system does appear to have more issues than others. I’m using an appropriate charger and haven’t had any issues thus far, so hopefully it is just blown out of proportion, but it’s still better to know the potential risks and be prepared for anything.

I didn't touch my RG35XX Plus for a while after getting it because I was waiting on GarlicOS 2.0. Eventually saw a post about MuOS, liked the look of it and gave it a shot. After fixing a bad flash, I grew attached to the OS. These devices don't take much to start to really love them once you actually put in the time to tailor it to your tastes. I admit my excitement for the system dulled a little as I had to wait over half a year just to use it, but once I finally got to using it with MuOS, playing the games I love, I was hooked again. The SP is a bit bulkier than I'd like, but I do get a small pang of jealousy whenever I see that beautiful Game Boy Advance SP holo color overlay. It looks so authentic, it's great.
