Anbernic confirmed this morning that they have created a fix for the video out slowdown bug, and sent me videos of it working. The OTA update should be out in a couple days and will be included with all retail units. I’ll update this comment once I have the OTA and can confirm it’s fixed on my end too.

@UMvsC3DPFWPW Same man. I like the fact that buyers have options on what form factor to choose; but feel like they can afford to slow down and focus on higher specs etc at this point. I think the way to go for their next devices would be extra features and serving particular niches - something Anbernic is actually better than competition. Like for instance I think their Arc was really cool and unique, but it was underpowered. So a T820 Arc Pro with this cool screen would be sweet (maybe drop a stick or two if it doesn't hurt the design too much). T820 isn't enough for Beetle core, but AFAIK it is enough for a lot of 2D Saturn titles using Saturn.emu (basically same code base as Beetle, sans Retroarch overhead). Which brings me to a pickle. I kinda like the 406H, but I wanna wait a month or two to see if they'll actually make an Arc Pro. Because that's a device I would enjoy a lot more than 406H.

To anyone having issues with how often these companies release handhelds think about it like this. - Don't let the consumerism in you win. Buy the thing and enjoy said thing while its useful. I use to upgrade my phone every year until i realized how long phones work before they died was their more important attribute. Most people don't even have time to take advantage of the cadence of upgrades companies offer. - On that last note. Their need to upgrade every couple months or every year has little to do with you personally so don't take it that way. They are fighting to get as much attention as they can. For a hardware only company the steam route is out of the equation cause they cant make money on the software side. So they cant sit on the same hardware for long. Money slows. So They are hoping one of the hardware updates will get the attention of some of the untapped market as well as current customers.

I think new handhelds are getting held back more by software these days. PS2 emulation is not being updated on Android. Xbox emulation isn't even a thing on these lower end handhelds. So it'll be nice if the community draws together to get more out of these devices.

@@skycloud4802 they are held back for sure. The return on investment for having better software could be low though since they can’t sell the games they are marketing the devices for legally. We seen a few decent attempts. Ouya stands out and the most popular but still failure.

One thing always at the back of my mind though, is the international politics sides of things. The potential of price creep or bans. Tarrifs, taxes, sanctions, and other petty nonsense. Especially with Trump in charge. Then there's the question whether the CCP will want to capitalise on this new market in the future by infecting them with malware, spyware or something. Or a batch of dodgy pager-like handhelds supposed to be due for Iran.

@@lilrockstar77 I agree with Skycloud above. I understand companies trying to make a profit, that's cool. I just don't see that much innovation beyond the many handheld devices I already have. This particular handheld is not really that competitive at that price range for what it offers, but if you have no handhelds at all, it is a viable choice. The problem is that this audience, for the most part, already have the devices they need. I personally have so many handheld devices that I could open up a store. Regardless of all of the devices that have come out, nothing is really competing that much with the steam deck unless you have a use case for Android or Windows on a portable platform that is not already being met. I love my Anbernic devices, but I'm good at this point. I have small portable devices that fill that need and the very light Steam Deck for everything else portable. Everything else, I'm playing on a TV or a monitor. There is an argument made for pocketabilty, but personally, I almost never leave the house without my camera bag which easily holds my steam deck. All good, everybody has a different use case, but I would give Anbernic a , meh, nice try on this one.

I' watching this on a 6+ years old tablet. It still works. Poor battery with thousands of charge cycles is basically dead though. I plug it in a powerbank or to the wall. I hate throwing things that still work.

It’s a must for me I been waiting for this one I don’t like vertical handhelds..and definitely want the white one

I'm almost sold on this one, but then I think, it's only a matter of time before Anbernic updates the RG556 with Hall Effect sticks and some of the other features they've incorporated on this device. This one is very tempting.

I always use the sticks instead of the d pad even for older SNES and Genesis games. It is a must that the sticks are on top .

High mode keeps all the cores running at maximum clock rate, and keeping the fan on manually makes games smooth with reduced stutters.

We are in the golden age of retro handhelds

Still hoping for a "2DSXL" knock-off. The original ones are getting old, trashed/recycled after breaking, or sitting in collections.

I am happy with my RG40XXH, it does a lot for $60, I'm just sad they didn't release a transparent model. I wouldn't upgrade from that to anything without an OLED screen.

Agreed. I got a couple for 45 each. At 45 dollars its the best bang for the buck imho.

i paid a bit more, it is ok, but way too thin for me i had to modify so my hands would not cramp as easily.

The final thing that needs to be fixed on H devices is that cursed button placement for Start and Select.

i would be more than happy with a 406v in a classic gameboy color scheme with a square brick shape, only thinner
