Not all, but there are also many Filipinos who will say these lines when they discover that the government is investing in defense years ago: "nakakain ba yan? Nakakabusog ba yan?" That is even back then when rebels and terror groups are a threat. Many of us Filipinos are too naive thinking that there will be no more threats from other nations, which also leads to the removal of US bases without sufficient replacement to fill the gap in defense left behind.

Why? This is pH own problem, and it's their own continued actions which keep provoking and escalating. Why would anyone else help? Also, isn't USA a defense treaty allied security partner? Why doesn't pH ask them for help? USA has it all. economic, military, culturally, political, and technological superiority above basically the whole world. But when USA who's like that can't si anything themselves and pressure or cower china, then who else would be able to? And do you think the whole world or international community supports Philippines in this issue? If anything most are the pH as a us puppet and repeatedly sailing towards Chinese areas to find trouble, and if course China will respond. If it was USA or Israel or Russia etc, every ship after the first warning would be destroyed. Look up Johnson South reef clash in 1988. China killed 70 Viet Navy soldiers, and sunk all 3 of their warships. Then China took the islands control again.. Ph is trying to recreate such an incident again it seems, and China has had "recent" experience in 1988. But pH doesn't need any experience, just sheer numbers and strength if will alone will easily suffice.

The Philippines will have to quickly pass a law (even back dated to July 2016) to penalize any unauthorized occupants of islands to pay a fine of $1B per day. To my Philippines friends: you must understand your EEZ cannot overrule Chinese territorial water, and you must also understand China’s industrial power, which is key to a country’s hard military power, is twice of the US today. I understand living by a huge neighbor can be frustrating and confused, but China is not like the US, treating its neighbors badly. China is willing to negotiate, even compensate some of your loss. But if you insist on colluding with the US, and trying to intimidate China, you’re on a dangerous path of being taught an ancient old geopolitical lesson. Remember, your former colonial master may not always stay in Asia, just one misstep, the US will cease to be an Asian power. Then, you have to pay even more for standing on the wrong side of history.
