I have just been diagnosed with Hereditary Hemochromatosis at the age of 44 and found this video very useful to help me understand what it is and how it affects me. I am now on the look out, to get involved in any research projects on Hereditary Hemochromatosis, if you or any of your followers know of any in the UK please let me know. Or do a video, many thanks

Very interesting....I have a paternal grandmother from Iceland.... and when SFU opened they contacted my family to come to the opening because we were found to be direct descendants of Simon Fraser... when I was diagnosed I was told I inherited the gene from both sides of my family.

That IS interesting. You have a link back to a BC explorer. Mr. Simon Fraser's parents were from Scotland. He lived until he was 86. So then, was Simon Fraser a carrier? Or perhaps his wife was? Or perhaps he himself had two mutated genes for hemochromatosis but did not manifest iron overload, as that is the case with about 30% of homozygotes.

Now many of my doctor's are questioning my diagnosis. When my saturation levels get almost to the point where I need treatment (maintenance) they take it an extra month and suddenly my saturation levels drop to where I don't need treatment. I watch my diet and do drink coffee whenever I eat to try and keep my iron levels down . I have been tested for the gene three times now and it is confirmed but my treatment has been "odd".

As Dr. Adams says in another video, not everyone will need to have phlebotomies to maintain their iron levels once deironed. Are they watching both your transferrin saturation and ferritin levels?

@@toomuchiron Yes.... but they keep questioning the fact in spite of testing that I have Hemachromatois

I have HH and my ancestry is Scottish dating as far back as the records go ( to the middle ages, when the birth records were destroyed when Churches were burned). According to AncestryDNA I'm 70% "Irish". My only brother is also has HH, which is unlucky because we each only had a 25% chance individuallu of inheriting this

Thank you for your comment on this video, CpnStbn12. Hope you and your brother are managing your hemochromatosis well.

Or possibly u all wrong.. Hehehe my theory can be that disfunctional adrenal glands can be a culprit in creation of iron in balance & by that hemochromatosis. Is interrupted chloresterol rework process into hormones due to damage of any kind to adrenals could be some low vitamin d controlling calcium or perhaps we can go higher to pituitary gland disfunction... Perhaps development of the fetus during pregnancy or alcohol role during sexual intercourse... Still big unknown there... Hehehe nobody pays attention to artofficial milk formulas for infants & their ingredients... BTW have nothing to do with western Europe & have it so.... Hehehe
