In regard to the Trinidadian young lady, as it pertains to what you perceive as Native American features on your mom, that is more than likely attributed to her West African ancestry. Unfortunately, generational people of the Americas of the African diaspora tend to have a limited stereotype as what they regard as African features at times. For example, slanted eyes, and high cheekbones can be found in common patches throughout West Africa or Sub-Saharan Africa in general. According to geneticists black Africans are said to have the oldest most complex diverse genetic make ups in the world(without admixture),....and other races are said to be only mere subsets of this diversity.
@cpaulinaf7 жыл бұрын
OrientalKings Thanks for checking out the video (and for calling me young lady! :)) My comments regarding my Native ancestry were based on oral history, not how my mother looks. Many people unfortunately have a limited perception of the varied phenotypes of Africans. However, I still don't think that any of us can say, unequivocally, that certain aspects of my mother's and GM's phenotypes are not similar to those of the Arawak/Carib/Taino/Guarahoon ppl. For the record, I never said that their features are unique to Native Americans or that Indigenous Americans are the only ones with those characteristics.
@GuardianoftheGoldenStool7 жыл бұрын
+Cforge Due to the immense physical diversity that exist in sub-saharan Africa, and the people possessing such old complex genetic make ups,....when Africans intermix with other races; I'd like to perceive often numerous physical characteristics that off spring as a revisiting Lol!! of what was already pre-existing in Africa. Be mindful, I said numerous, not all. It seems as though characteristics such as straight hair might have come about throughout the (general)human migration process out of Africa. By the way, I enjoyed you guys video, and the previous one. I have yet to take the test with AncestryDNA. I've done it with African Ancestry out of DC. What was amazing I had long held intuitive haunches about my results. They test strictly direct maternal lineages and direct paternal lineages. My direct maternal lineage was Yoruba of Nigeria, and my direct paternal was Ashanti of Ghana. I was beyond stunned, believing this a forehand! Can't wait to do the admixture one,...like you guys.

@GuardianoftheGoldenStool7 жыл бұрын
+Chyn Wonder Something else your Trinidadian friend may want to consider the portion of her ancestry that is Native may not be Arawak or an indigenous group from the West Indies. The U.S. States of South Carolina and Virginia were heavily involved in the Native American slave trade, and they sold countless numbers of Native Americans from the U.S. to the West Indies as slaves. Several Native American ethnic groups of the U.S. East Coast were subject to this trade. An author by the name of Allan Gallay wrote a really detailed informative book on it called the Indian Slave Trade.
@cpaulinaf7 жыл бұрын
OrientalKings For sure. The slave trade was a very complex business/process that exchanged many folk between the Americas. Interesting that you brought up the Intra-American slave trade, bc Im also descended from African American folk who fought in the War of 1812 and were freed thereafter....they eventually settled in Southern Trinidad in a community called the Merikin Village. Im very familiar with Allan Gallay. He's an amazing author and historian. I have 2 of his books...."The Formation of a Planter Elite" and "Voices of the Old South"....mandatory reading from college, but great reference guides that taught me more about that aspect of American history than many other guides that I used otherwise. I still want to do the African Ancestry test.....Ancestry left me with more questions! Again....thanks for watching the videos!
@luftman578 жыл бұрын
Between the Spanish, Middle Eastern, European Jewish and North African ancestry, it's quite possible that you might be descended not only from Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern Europe, but also Sephardic Jews who escaped to the Middle East and North Africa to avoid persecution during the Spanish Inquisition. Also, like the Europeans, the Arabs too were very active in the African slave trade. It's possible you are descended either from people known as "conversos" or "crypto-Jews." The "crypto-Jews" were people who would practice their Judaism in secret to avoid persecution. You mentioned that your grandma is Puerto Rican, so it's possible you got it from her

robie bag u are entitled to your opinion however Im not really sure where you get that from. I have many Jewish friends and family and none of them "hate" themselves. Having said that, it is sad you have dealt with many prejudices towards you. There is a lot of ignorance, particularly in areas of middle America. If you don't like people making assumptions about you based on your ethnicity, I don't think it is right that you generalize a whole religion of people. A potential presidential candidate does that and we all know it is wrong. Those people that support him are the same ones who will hate on you, don't pay them any mind cause they full of it.
