Very exciting project. Hopefully, this can enable more historical insight hints (in the Life Story view) that are tailored to the specific regiment in which an ancestor served. I have two direct ancestors who served in Ohio regiments. One was 51 years old when he enlisted as a private in the 53rd OVI. He probably had to lie about his age as his enlistment document has his age as 45. He was at Shiloh and served in Sherman's army during the march across Georgia.

Make sure you build this out so it is scalable to the other wars as well. I have letters my great grandfather wrote to his parents during WWI. In addition, I have a "list of soldiers" that goes with a photograph...and I don't have the photograph. But I know what Civil War regiment it was in Arkansas.

You didn't include what happened to the children whose father was killed in the Civil War & maybe the mothers died as well. All these children were placed in Civil War "Orphanages". Horrible places. If your ancestors were Southern/Confederate there isn't much information in their military files because they didn't get pensions & they were considered criminals. So the information is very slim for them. For example, I got a box in the mail for 1 northern soldier file. There were so many papers. A friend of mine sent away for his Confederate ancestors file and got 2 pages. Very lopsided as far as information was between the 2 groups. You should have a place for the Guerilla Warfare groups that were active in Kansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, etc. Some you have to decided whether or not they were good guys or not. There were many of these guerilla types and yet we know only about 1 or 2 really well. Like Quantrill's Raiders, Champ Ferguson, but there were others. That Champ Ferguson murdered a bunch of people including one of my ancestors. What was sad was they were caught going back to their Army after visiting their families to make sure all was well. Ferguson grabbed them. Marched them to another location & shot them all. His family applied for his pension and was denied because the Army said he was AWOL. Hard to get back to your unit if you're dead. The trials of his family were horrible. Very sad. You might want to include some of these things I've suggested.

Several of my Ancestors fought for the Confederacy. Many of them or their wives received pensions. I was very surprised.

Where is the family of Ulysses S. Grant? Or Abraham Lincoln? How about some basic concepts? I mean, I get you can't necessarily say who living people are...but..really on the rest?
