My ancestors were from Austria (now Ukraine). I cannot find anyone with the last name I am looking for in Austria. As borders changed, did records move, or did they stay in the same place, but the boundaries changed? I also love these videos so much. I started family history in 2013, and I was so undereducated about Genealogy. I started watching these videos, and now I am incorporating lots of the tips and suggestions you give in the videos to my research, and it helps so much! Thank you! ~Justin

+Justin Z Records for that part of the world tend to remain in smaller, local jurisdictions. So, if you know WHERE in Ukraine the family came from, try looking in the local Ukrainian archive for the information you need. (Crista)

I'm surprised your analysis of Hugh didn't involve consideration of DNA evidence. The video implies Hugh has descendants and the couple you think were his parents had other children who have descendants. While the fact that the three possible fathers were brothers might complicate things, I should think an autosomal DNA match between one of Hugh's descendants and anyone related to the alleged mother on her side of the family would be a more satisfactory way of establishing that indeed you have identified the correct mother.

Hi Daniel - This video was made back in 2015 and AncestryDNA (autosomal testing) was still only about three years old at the time. Of course, now, I would incorporate DNA evidence. 😊
