any tips on getting access to adoption files? My grandfather no longer alive was adopted. I have the birth cert., record of birth, and adoption cert. but wonder about other information that may be available in the adoption file. This was in 1917. He was born in 1912. My goal is to find his birth parents and possibly any known family members. There is a notation on the birth cert. that he was baby #3 but I cannot find any information other then the record of birth on the parents. The other docs was given to me from family member but it is a copy of the original. Any tips and advice is much appreciated! thank you.

If he was born in 1912 and he was child #3, it is very likely that children #1 and 2 were alive in 1910. If you have the name of the birth parents, check the 1910 census to see what (if any) children are listed as living with them. As for adoption files, you would have to contact the court that handled the adoption. Depending on the laws of the state, you may be able to access the file since they are more than 100 years old or you may have to get a court order to access them.
