I was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago. Surgery removed the cancer, but I also had preventative chemo/radiation as the cancer had spread to two lymph nodes. Telling my boy I had cancer was so hard, especially with him old enough to have met cancer before. Going through treatment was horrendous, and trying to stay me through it all was incredibly hard. If I had been forced to announce what I was going through to the world, open that door into my most frightening and vulnerable time, because people just couldn't mind their own damn business and think that just maybe people are hiding stuff because it's private and personal, and they don't WANT to talk about it yet....well I'd be a lot less gracious and dignified than Kate was in that announcement. Now I hope she can be left alone so focus all her energy where it belongs, on getting through her treatment, and being with her family.

My Aunt has a stage 4 breast cancer. After her breast removal operation she underwent chemotherapy, which happened when she was 24 years old and the doctor told her that she only had a year to live. But God has planned for her to be cancer free after her chemotherapy and live until she was 92 years old. She died because of old age and not of her cancer. @@188CRA I think (though can’t be certain) they are pointing out the difference between the average Joe with cancer compared to those in the Royal family. Kate won’t have to endure long waiting lists or worry about getting the best possible treatment, or find out if certain meds she needs are dependent on her postcode. She won’t have to stress about financial issues or worry if she’s too tired to look after her children. She has the comfort of knowing that she will be given the best treatment there is and thus have the best chance there is of beating her disease. She will have the best consultants, the best therapists, and she’ll be able to take as much time off as she feels is necessary to recover. And if she needs psychological support, she’ll have the best psychologists at hand too. Don’t think for one minute I’m suggesting Kate is having an easy time of it; no one with a cancer diagnosis has it easy. She deserves all the sympathy and compassion she is receiving, in my opinion. I think the OP is pointing out that others in the same or similar situations don’t have such privileges, and as a result, their odds might not be as good as they ought to be. We pay for the Royals, and we also pay for our NHS service through taxation and National Insurance. People are becoming increasingly upset that our NHS is not delivering as it should. What was once a very efficient system is now struggling, and as a result, people suffer and die unnecessarily
