In this quaint fishing community, we stand in front of a historic net shed, reminiscing about the past when fishermen would gather here to repair their nets and find solace after a day on the water. This setting serves as a beautiful analogy for "The Anchor," a gathering place where women of all ages come together to be restored, encouraged, and strengthened in their faith.
We are thrilled to announce that this month marks the beginning of our "Anchor Moments" series, where Sandra Hooker, along with other women, will share powerful testimonies with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Each story will recount a significant moment in their lives when their faith was grounded, and they witnessed God's miraculous work firsthand. Allow Sandra Hooker to introduce herself! She is a two-time cancer survivor, happily married with two children, and a native of San Diego who moved to Gig Harbor after her youngest graduated high school. Her connections with Katie and "The Anchor" have led her to make wonderful friends in this beautiful town.
Sharing about her faith journey, Sandra grew up in a Catholic family attending Catholic schools, and faith has always been an integral part of her life. However, her most recent experience on a trip to the Bahamas taught her a powerful mantra that helped her navigate through fear and uncertainty. She discovered that looking up to the horizon and acknowledging that she is loved, safe, and protected by God brought her peace even amidst turbulent winds.
As a special tradition in her family, they have "God's Chair" at her mother's house, representing a place where God can sit with them during special occasions and challenging times. This chair has been a source of comfort and reflection during her cancer treatment and her father's journey with lung cancer.
One Bible verse that has always been close to Sandra's heart is Matthew 6:26, reminding her to look at the birds and trust in God's provision and care for us. Through her cancer battles, this verse has been a constant source of strength and assurance.
