LOVE THE SET UP! I almost turtled in Grand Isle, LA today! I made the deadly mistake of dropping the hooking anchor and I then tied to boat side and knew instantly I was in trouble. Last resort was to cut it. I lost the anchor but stayed dry and safe. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I was in too big a hurry to ‘worry’ about my bouys and all. Total lapse of judgement. I’m setting this up this evening. Thank!

Nice! I made one for myself, accept I use a clamp cleat to tie the safety rope. The tether and release is so quick that I don't have to fumble with the safety rope.

Thank you. I've been pondering a solution pretty hard for the past couple of days. You're quick release approach seems to work well. I'm gonna give it a try. Keep the dry side up! 😎

Thankyou.Best idea Ive seen yet,especially with the dive reel and Nite Ize carabiner.The dive reels can be found under $30.Reviews for the dive reel mentioned it was great for a kayak anchor.I mostly fish lakes and slow moving rivers as I only have a 12' Sun Dolphin SOT which is more or less an entry level/budget fishing yak.But as long as it gets me out on the water,it's fine.

Mine is set close to that . I run a quick release system after the float hooked on cleat . It comes in handy when trying to fight big fish or getting out of the wakes from bigger boats .

I have been looking for that for half the day. The good news is I came up with the idea on my own seeing the trolley I just kind of scratched my head and went well I need another 7 ft of rope that I can tie my anchor float too I just wanted to see that somebody else thought it was a good idea as well the only difference being that I'm using a soft Carabiner as a tie down because it is basically a cinch knot and a double fisherman's knot with some space between them and a nice little handle or a one finger pull for release it was a bend that I learned to tie while I was mountain climbing if the rookie brings the wrong gauge carabiners then you can whip up a set of soft carabiners for him and the climb is not canceled due to a lack of gear and you know the soft carabiners are going to work because you're using climbing rope to make them and it's basically a doubled up climbing rope that cinches down on itself not allowing the double fisherman's knot to pass through until you purposely release the clinch. Although I do suggest that you slip a bungee into the trolley somewhere otherwise one might get jerked right out of their kayak if you come to a sudden stop.

That’s funny 300 ft to much but 200 is the ticket!! 😜. Your six foot piece is very important that’s a great idea. You should run it that way every time. Emergency situations don’t give you a heads up!! Nice video

Dude, where's you cleat to tie down your anchor trolley ? you don't just let it slide free. you need a zig zag cleat or something to tie your anchor position.(Bow or stern)
@TahoeYakFisher
@TahoeYakFisher 6 жыл бұрын
Jay bird2963 I have never had any problem with it shifting on its own. There is enough friction in the system it stays where I put it... Been like that for a few years now, no cleat required.
@youknow9328
@youknow9328 5 жыл бұрын
Why would he need one? I’ve always thought it was over doing the system. Your boat drifts with the winds and currents you position the boat they way you want it with those two in account. Making it static is what messes you up and creates an emergency. The friction through his ring plus the gravity downloading it should be more than enough for a few pound anchor. Hell I just been tying hay strings onto a rock and tossing it over in ten Mph winds 😂. Draw back to that is you can’t aim your boat when it’s tied statically with no range of movement. Maybe if you’re in a serious current then since river currents are never consistent.

I think your a genius, great design and it seams well thought out but i cant imagine what type of emergency you would have that you needed to detach the anchor system? Also, your anchor system looks legit so much that i cant help but ask, would you attach links to this video so that i may know where to get the parts/ ingredients that make your anchor system possible?

I've been looking into building a anchor set up. Right now I would have to cut the cord but instead I just back paddle to in front or above the anchor and i can get it out. The balancing act of having anchor catch suddenly is scarier then trying to get the anchor back.

In my trade we call that a shackle, but I think it is also called a clevis. I’ve heard it called a d-ring as well by an old boss. I tried to prove that wrong once and turns out, at least according to McMaster-Carr, a shackle is a type of d-ring

I want to buy a kayak, unfortunately it's on a long list of things that i want but don't have room for. Maybe in a year or two i will be more able to make it happen....in the meantime I'll keep researching. I have seen similar anchor systems but i really like your quick release setup and those pulleys are neat looking, i could use those in a variety of applications. I also like the diving line reel you used, i think a longer anchor line will help the anchor set better. I'm curious about the stand you made for your milk crate, I'll be looking for that next.....thanks for sharing your creativity

Great video. Very informative. I'm buying my first yak hopefully sometime next month. Can't wait to do that. There are so many small streams and good flat water lakes where I'm at and the shore fishing sucks and really need a boat. I fish with my neighbor who has a flat bottom pond boat and he said if I get a kayak you're going over. I said then make sure your filming I want to get famous on youtube.

Steven Brown Learn the difference between Thermoformed (cheap) & Rotomolded (durable). I would rather buy used rotomolded than new thermoformed... just my opinion.
@stevenbrown7042
@stevenbrown7042 6 жыл бұрын
I'm getting a Rotomolded. I wouldn't trust my life on a cheap boat. I'm in construction and I wouldn't climb a cheap ladder. I am not a total stranger to boating I've been on quite a few boats. The boat I'm looking at is the Ascend FS-10. Rotomolded and made by tracker. Its almost $600. I have researched for a few years. And just like my golf clubs I'm going to buy a decent setup and as time goes on and I get more experience I will upgrade in the future.

Heaven forbid you'd use an anchor in a river. Very dangerous. Your only going to use an anchor in a lake, there wouldn't be a current in a lake.
