I'm replaying AAliens myself currently, with a few sound mods of my own making + some visual stuff like PK's smoothened weapons and Nash's brilliant gore mod. Had a good time for the most part, although map20, AD_79's Code, gave me a frustratingly hard time (external factors) and I hate the ending arena of Acerola-Orion more than ever. Open area + arch-viles + spectres = Essel was feeling Tarnsman that day, it seems.

@@DinnerForkTongue Indeed parts of Ancient Aliens can be rough to go through. It's interesting to me how many Doomers seem to enjoy different maps of AA. Good that there's something for everyone in this megawad I guess :)

Now this brings out all the best of this beautiful map. The music change for the secret BFG area was a great touch to underscore the final scramble to commit grand theft spaceship and continue finding the truth.

This level is just... beauty. The visuals are so radically different from the rest of the wad, in a good way, and Kassap has an _amazing_ hand for eyecandy and fluff that attracts attention and looks great without bothering the gameplay. And the music pick is just godly. Stewboy is our man for these breezy, lightweight midis, but Imaginarium is on a whole nother level. It is so whimsical and sweet that it passes off this feel of innocent wonder... and it doesn't get marred even as you wage a war that leaves the map stinking of fresh gore and burnt gunpowder, which sounds absolutely bonkers on paper but is true! No wonder this got a valedictorian and a merited spoiler warning from MtPain27. I love your way of playing, Borogk, for real. Unlike watching a speedrunner, there is no optimization that takes me out of the experience - this honestly feels like Doomguy taking in the environment for the first time. Watching from 3rd person feels a bit like seeing a story unfold, although sparse on the details.

this is fantastic! i ended up playing classic doom 2 midis over this song just because it seemed to be a bit too peppy to me haha, but seeing the map and gameplay in third person is fantastic. i hope you do many more of these!

@Protector_Name I'm playing for the 3rd or 4th time now and it for sure is a classic. Go play it. Now. Just _don't use the Blood Fixer for it_ unless you feel like fiddling with SLADE. It has a serious bug about the stealth alien troopers (invisible dudes that fire plasma) where if you deal enough damage to gib them, they glitch out and become invulnerable ghosts. This will ruin anyone's play session.

Ancient aliens had beautiful maps and remains one of my favorite wads to this day. But this map in particular was really special. A genuine adventure into a map that is so distinct from all the others in the set. It really is a culture shock, and the map really shouldn't be played without the music. Awesome stuff.

Lovely! Your camera angles keep getting better and better! Such a beautiful (and at times annoying) map to showcase. Would you consider doing a tutorial video in the future, on how to create videos such as this? I can imagine more of these videos, also by others, would greatly benefit the Doom community as a whole. I've been wanting to make a few of these for my own maps but it's tough to get started. Or could you perhaps point me to a tutorial? All the best!

@@borogk That and the inside of the temple is a confusing game of switch hunt, because Pinchy decided to use all the skull keys in the first half and did not think of employing keycards (which, for those that don't know, can be used for different locks than skull keys in Boom).

@@borogk Yeah it's a pain if you're going for 100% kills. All the secrets are at the end too so you go from being low on health/armour/ammo for 90% of the map to being loaded up with megaspheres and rockets lol. Still a great journey and I love the aesthetics as always

Thanks for the vid. Great camerawork. :) How did you get the 3rd person view to work? In dsda doom, AFAIK, you can only use it for demos (after they've been created) and not in regular play with saves. Or, is it a sourceport specific thing?

I thought there was a problem between aa and bd,now my only problem with the wad is map08 lagging like hell,especially while looking at the ufos,but maybe that's just bd's enhancements making a nearly 30 year old game way way more demanding for my glorified space heater of a pc,or maybe my source port?

@@borogk I play on GZdoom, because of its versatility, and I have a decent pc, and I need a system that’s easy to setup on any computer, and I know GZdoom has Mac and Linux support, because I need to help my friends play doom, and GZdoom seemed like the best option when I started, I’ll have to try prboom+ though
