Giants are also extremely prevalent in Norse mythology, as well as a giant serpent and a great flood. **edit** the more I look into this, the more and more Norse mythology fits nearly perfectly with the comet/cataclysm theory. Ragnarok is said to be brought on by the world serpent, a giant serpent that brings a great flood and an endless winter. At the same time the serpent starts Ragnarok, the 2 wolves of Odin eat the Sun and the Moon. A comet approaching Earth would appear as an ever increasing in size serpent, then hitting earth, would cause a great flood, a nuclear winter, and the debris field cast into the atmosphere would block out the Sun and Moon.

As someone who has spent some time in the halls of Academia, I can say that a big reason (but not the only one) that academics are, shall we say, resistant to the ideas of prehistory that Hancock et al. present is largely an issue of reputation. See, you got some guy who has worked for decades to scrabble and brawl his way to a tenured Professorship, a secure and fairly lucrative place to be, he or she is not going to accept any challenge to the tons of career research they have done, research that justifies their jobs - or, perhaps more importantly, their legacy. No one wants to go from being the authority on a subject, spoken of in glowing terms and invited to all the right events, to being a footnote in someone else's career. "The established belief of Nerdrotic was swept away when recent discoveries by Papa Gundam came to light." That sort of thing.

As much as I like seeing Gary take a massive dump on Marvel and Rings of Power, this was a nice change of pace. I remember stumbling across Graham Handcock on JRE when it was still on KZbin and he single-handedly reignited my sense of wonder in the world and history. My Grandfather was a scientist (he helped develop the Harrier Jet (US sea Harrier) then he became an astronomer, when i was 8 years old i asked him about UFOs and Aliens, i was expecting him to shoot me down in flames but he looked at me thoughtfully and took a puff on his pipe and then said "The odds of us being alone in the universe are monumentally low even impossible when you consider there are as many solar systems as there are grains of sand on earth". I feel something should be said about all of this "We as an advanced society can't do "XXXX" today so it must be aliens" shtick. We as a society have not bothered fuck all with giant stones since we learned to mill lumber and smelt metal, if we had not invented these less shitty ways of building structures more easily we would still know how to move giant boulders to a location and shape them into something specific to build something more gigantic. We can't do these things today because we have literally invented thousands of easier ways of making structures, not because of lost access to "space magic". All of these "We can't do this today" statements forget to add "because nobody has had any reason to do anything like this since the invention of writing, but if we really wanted to and money was not a concept our technological society could easily make machines to replicate all of this "ancient magic", but once again WHY WOULD ANYONE BOTHER and how would they afford it? It all boils down to limitless man hours and no OSHA safety standards. We look at these projects and think in modern terms about building them safely, It is quite possible that setting each rock required a couple of people to die in the process and since we don't think in those terms anymore the feats seem impossible. One of the main things that needs to be stressed is these giant projects probably took hundreds of years. There was nothing to do back then besides farm and look at the stars around a camp fire, so the local royalty giving the local not royalty some gigantic, exhaustive busy work, public works project was just a way of keeping everyone too tired to rebel.

Random thought: The guy that wrote a book about the Face on Mars pointed out that the life in the Carolina Bays happens to be rather unique, not found anywhere else on Earth, and supposed that the bays could have been formed from a cometary impact/explosion. If it had foreign life elements, in its ice, that could explain why the life there in the bays is so unique.

Hancock has been pushed backwards by the archeological community every step of the way, his whole career. I think most of it comes from aging professors who've written books and theses and/or taught university classes that are based entirely on their old, shortsighted version of human history. If pretty much any of Hancock's or Carlson's discoveries are accepted by academic and popular culture, their career becomes obsolete overnight. And no more fat checks for book sales, teaching gigs, speaker's fees, etc etc Awesome show! Thanks for the detailed review, and the great conversation. More of this please gentlemen! 🍻

Remember when he claimed that Angkor Wat was the constellation Draco built as it was 12,500 years ago when the Earth spanning civilisation was ended by the melting of the ice. Trouble is some real archaeologists pointed out that he only managed to achieve this amazing fact by ignoring half the temple buildings to force his pattern to exist. Hancock couldn't provide any answer as to why he lied apart from turning into Homer Simpson. "You can prove anything with facts!" There are pyramids in more than one place =/= the same people were involved. Correlation not causation. Why were these amazing super advanced people not able to cope with a bit of water? The Earth warming up and being able to grow crops and have forests for timber to build al the way into the higher latitudes would seem to be an advantage, not a cause for mass extinction. A meteorite falling through the atmosphere would not drag a column of cold air from space behind it as it fell. There is no cold air in space because there is no air in space. As the meteorite enters the atmosphere, it is travelling too fast to even push the air aside, but rather it compresses it in front of it, and that layer of air gets pushed through the atmosphere at super high speeds, heating the air due to compression and friction, creating a layer of plasma that superheats the meteorite, often (but not always) causing them to explode before they impact the ground. It is feasible that gasses and materials trailing the meteorite are able to stay super cold, but those were part of the meteorite itself, not gas from space that got pulled into the meteorite's slipstream.

I think the biggest disagreement between Graham and scholarship is his idea of civilization. Academia’s definition of civilization has at least 5 aspects government, architecture, writing system, agriculture, and specialized workers. No academics believe these things weren’t happening before the first civilization, it’s just Mesopotamia was the first place that incorporated all these things together to create the first civilization. Hancock never points to the food source for this civilization, the government of this civilization, their language, the places they would’ve gotten material for ships, tools, housing, etc. No one in academia is gonna take anyone seriously who’s saying “I definitely know a lost civilization existed and academics are hiding it” but doesn’t show any evidence for any of these things and when you ask him he says “that’s for the academics to find, I’m just a journalist”. Also, he’s trying to claim it’s “Atlantis” and everyone in academia and whoever has actually read Timeaus and Critias will laugh at that. It’s literally describing a huge war between Athens and Atlantis. Athens win the war against Atlantis and only Atlantis sinks, it’s not a global flood. Archeology shows Mesopotamia only came about 5000 years ago so it didn’t even exist, but there should be at least a few other civilizations that would have existed around the Ice Age to fight this huge war that took place not just one lost one like he claims. There should be evidence of this war and these different civilizations that participated, instead Hancock just limits it to 1 because he understands how absurd that would be and knows only academics will pickup on it. Finally, flood myths aren’t that big of a deal, academics have been telling everyone NY and California will be under water in the future for years now. Historically, we tend to live by the water because we need it to survive and fish is a good source of food. Our ancestors definitely dealt with flooding from the time we first evolved into Homo Sapiens all the way until now so it’s not very surprising we have flood myths.

Graham Hancock sees things that are not there and then writes a book about it. He was fun when I was younger, but now I think he is just a scammer making money. Watch a video about him, watch him describe something and catch yourself thinking "huh". Not because you are not as smart as him. It`s because Hancock is trying to find the dots that link his theories together. Does that remind you of anyone?

Regarding the giants read the book series by Bryan Davis "Oracles of Fire". The author grew up reading C.S.Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. He based his book series on the Idea that dragons and giants existed prior to the flood and Dragons were allowed on the ark but were meant to protect Gods Chosen. Giants were Nephalim and the the whole series is a sort of sequal/prequal to the series "Dragons In Our Midst". The series uses biblical messages all throughout and follows an Aurthorian/Camelot story line that starts in modern times and has flashbacks to preflood and Camelot times.

Especially the world wide flood (obviously) anyways, very cool series. Totally into it

The first time I had seen Randall was on his first appearance on JRE. I've been hooked ever since. I'm glad you guys are doing this since it's a subject that is barely covered outside of Kosmographia. I'd like to hear your opinion on the competing theory that it was the Solar micro nova that caused the catastrophe and not an impact. Robert Schoch seems to be leaning in that direction, though Randall isn't entirely convinced of this. EDIT: Mothman took out a bridge. Sasquatch hasn't done anything like that. My money is on the Mothman. EDIT EDIT: The Great Unconformity has been shown across the globe. It's a geological mystery.

If we could only find something under sea level that could put this argument to rest permanently. I believe we might have progressed to our point of technology in the distant past but due to either meteor impact or natural disaster it got wiped out. If we did reach a point where we technically could of developed spacecraft our ancestors could be out there somewhere.

I watched the first 3 episodes and wasn't terribly impressed, to be honest. Just a lot of shots of Graham walking & standing, staring into the distance, and, "how old is it *really*," without excavation. I like the subject matter, but it wasn't terribly gripping of a presentation to me. That being said, it's nice that you've switched it up for this occasion

Gary, Garrett, and Guy with Glasses (I'm sorry) we need more vids on stuff like Ancient Aliens theory, the flood, Gobekli Tepe, Atlantis, etc. I enjoy your stuff Gary, but this content had me glued to KZbin. I knew you liked these subjects, but I didn't realize how much till I saw your excitement while talking about it. I spend a lot of my free time trying to learn more about these subjects and it's always nice hearing someone else talk about it who feels the same way. I've never watched one of your live vids completely more than once and I'm a third of the way thru my fourth time right now. I dont have access to Netflix anymore so I haven't been able to see the show yet. Until I can I'm trying to make sure I soak up as much info as you're able to give. Please realize that for most people in the scientific community that using established knowledge is generally just a starting point for new theories. Its not just "the past is settled." It isnt. They know that. Thats why they are archaeologists, scientists, etc. But, completely upending a way of thinking also requires extraordinary evidence. They aren't trying to mind control you or keep their power. They want strong evidence. If you are going to change the paradigm and change the entire background of academia that is what is required to do it. You think suggesting new theories isnt going to be pushed back against? Of course it is. I say all this because there are un educated people that watch videos like this and think scientists are out to get them and exist in a power structure more like politicians where the complete opposite is true.

@@daerovius7535 Im not sure if you understand how scientific grants are obtained so i will not try to talk down to you. Essentially "giving it a try 'is usually a matter of PHD students trying to get grant money for very expensive research. Getting those grants requires more than a hunch. And where Graham is upset is mainly due to the establishment being unwilling to fund those grants. The Archaeologists are also upset with Graham because, despite being a very intelligent man, he has no background in Archaeology. I understand both sides. But yes i agree they should be more open minded but being open minded costs money and sometimes leads nowhere.

Was intrigued after catching a few of their segments on JR and ended up binging the whole 8 eps in one go. I'm still sceptical about some of the conclusions, but its really facinating and 100% something that needs to be discussed and further researched. The reason why ESTABLISHED academics don't like new information if it contradicts what they've built a career on is pretty obvious... it undermines them in every way, it shows the world that they are NOT the experts they portray themselves as, and that is a threat to their egos, which are often highly inflated, and it's a threat to their income, if they're no longer seen as the experts they like to pretend they are, then why would any university employ them?

Not to mention his speculations on Out of Africa theory vs. Out of Atlantis theory are fascinating. I've spotted a giant like human neck tall on all fours sized hound on my driveway staring at me once in almost total darkness while smoking outside. After staring for a minute at each other, I stood up and clapped my hands cause I was honestly getting anxious and was trying to get it to go away. It looked at me for a few more moments after the loud clapping and it turned around in a human like pattern, walked down the left side of my driveway pavement perfectly in line, no grass touched, cuts left past my mailbox and up another driveway back into the woods. Wtf did I see?
