You already know this fellas got the max social credits LOL. What a craftsman. This asiatic style bow is like my mid term goal for bow making. Ive made two bows out of boards, and im working on a maple self bow in the cherokee style, but im slowly gathering the materials for this kinda horn bow

I met Mr Yuan FuXi yearas ago and he let me try one of his 50# bows. Very smooth draw I wish I would have the money to buy a 70# one

Maybe he can't make heavy Qing military bows unlike his ancestors. Love your vids by the way.

People were still making these bows in rural areas and in secret. When the government went full communism, bow Craftsman became carpenters and construction workers.

He doesn't even shoot like historical Chinese archers
@Intranetusa3 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? He is shooting in the Asiatic thumb draw style with a thumb ring. That is what historical Chinese archers used.
@MarcRitzMD3 жыл бұрын
@@Intranetusa That is only one component. There are around 4 or five other components which are off. It's fine for target practice but isn't an accurate representation of a historical style. If you're interested in a visual comparison, check out this photo archeryhistorian.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Manchu-Bow-3.jpg If you want a real in-depth discussion, then consider reading this article on thewayofarchery.com or watch the videos of the co-author Justin Ma. The guys behind the project are recreating/revitalizing Asiatic warbow archery. They are the equivalent of the English Warbow Society basically. sites.google.com/view/beyond-strength/home
@Intranetusa3 жыл бұрын
@@MarcRitzMD Yes, I've seen Justin Ma's videos. You're talking about heavy draw weight bows shot with military archery techniques....which is one type of historical archery but was not the only type. This guy likely makes lighter "normal" draw weight bows like 98% of bowyers in the world where the bows are between 15-60 lbs. So these are not heavy 100+ lb warbows that require body tilt techniques from military archery. In England and elsewhere after the end of their respective eras of military archery, archery was still practiced as a hobby/sport rather than as a way of war - so new techniques for precision and stability rather than for power were developed. Modern Olympic archery comes from historical western sport archery that uses techniques that would be ineffective for shooting historical military draw weight warbows...but it is still a historical archery technique. These are simply historical techniques for shooting lighter bows and techniques developed after military archery was no longer used.
@MarcRitzMD3 жыл бұрын
@@Intranetusa Yeah, then we agree on all points pretty much. What my point of contention is that it is portrayed to be these weapons of our history with all the romanticism that goes with it. To me, this seemed more like someone interviewing an Olympic fencer about Medieval swordfighting. It just hits a sore spot in me because we've all seen these kinds of videos where they've given people a platform to spread information, and it could have just been better. These documentaries or youtube videos rarely have the humility to admit to gaps in their knowledge or expertise. That guy for sure is a great bowmaker but when he dresses up like a historical warrior and make him shoot in a dramatic fashion, that blurs the line of his expertise.
@Intranetusa3 жыл бұрын
@@MarcRitzMD Gotcha, yeh I know what you mean. Where did you see him dress up like a historical warrior - was that a different video?
