Great job Leo! For the monetary history of Alexander's reign I would also recommend: "Alexander the Great: Coinage, Finances and Policy", a wonderful in-depth study of all aspects of Alexander's coinage in their historical and political context

Now that is one book I must have! Thanks for that, Damian, the Hellenistic period is my favorite in Greek numismatics

I have a chalkous I found in the UK with my metal detector 😊 Very informative video, thanks.

Wow, is it common for Greek coins to make it all the way to UK soil?
@longkeithdiablo88122 жыл бұрын
@@alcazar123456 when I told someone I had found one in the UK I was told "no you didn't!". Despite this being a common coin in the eastern Mediterranean I feel extremely lucky to have found it. It's my prized metal detecting find despite not having any/much value. 😊

Thank you! I've seen many Alexander bronze coins being listed as "AE" followed by a number. Its nice that you've shined some light onto what these coins were worth in terms of denomination.

I managed to get a helmet and shield dichalkoi for very cheap, and I love the design! It's amazing to have such a clear visual for what a 2300 year old soldier would have worn
@ClassicalNumismatics2 жыл бұрын
Whoever thought about this design back then must have received an award. Such a smart design that connects the monetary idea of power to the greek soldiers that were roaming the world at that time.

Hmmm...You're giving me ideas. I've long wanted a coin from Alexander. Maybe a "bottom-feeder" like me should be looking into finding a nice _bronze_ Alexander instead of holding out for that more extravagant silver tetradrachm or other silver bauble that was likely as not minted long after his death anyhow. Thanks!

Ancient Greek coins can be so beautiful! In some cases they have never been equaled.

Wouldn't you want to hold these coins with tweezers and not fingers ?
@ClassicalNumismatics5 ай бұрын
Go look at Numismatica Ars Classica, the most exclusive auction house in the entire planet. In their videos, they hold coins worth hundreds of thousands of dollars with their fingers. My fingers are as clean as theirs, so its perfectly fine :)
