It's quite sad that for most of these women, especially 3rd century wives, they're only known from their coinage. What I do love, however, is when both spouses are shown on the coin together. It showed how important they were in securing the reign of their husband, not to speak of Severina, who ruled on her own after Aurelian's death. All in all, a great video, glad to see the names and titles properly pronounced.

I have a nice denarius of Julia Aquilia Severa, the 2nd and 4th wife of emperor Elagabalus. She is also very remarkable, being a Vestal Virgin meaning she was to live a celibate life. The marriage caused great scandal, forcing Elagabalus to divorce her and marry Annia Faustina (a safer choice of partner). However, Elagabalus was quite excentric to say the least, and after the death of his grandmother (Julia Measa) he remarried Julia Aquilia Severa. Her coinage is quite rare and i did cost me a pretty penny ;) However she is not as rare as Elagabalus' third wife, Annia Faustina.

This is what fascinates me about the third century, so many scandalous stories worthy of an HBO series that no one knows about. A really cool time period, thanks for that input, people will find interesting!

My julia domna is slightly different. On mine her neck is longer.

Julia Domna had denarii struck for her during a veeery long time, as a result, there are vastly different bust types. Some gorgeous, some ok, some terrible!
