I believe the best solution for the multiple characters is to use Unicode Variant Selectors, which are specifically for handling variant characters (e.g. slight differences between those used in China vs Taiwan vs Japan, etc.)

This project is amazing. I love the style, but I'm a little horrified at how you've decided to handle multiple characters, and I'm going to agree with Kikiota about the use of stylistic sets. If you're going to continue to look into this I think it might be useful to contact someone, maybe a library?, about Kazuo's works. They might be able to find more information, or at least find someone who can. I might print out the preface and give it a try but it is way above my reading comprehension.

You may want to have a look at unicode variation selectors for your font en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variation_Selectors_(Unicode_block) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variation_Selectors_Supplement Notice how U+e0101 changes the form of the middle 艮 radical in the following character: 卿 = U+537f 卿󠄁 = U+537f + U+e0101

Have fonts been made for the other Edo period typefaces shown in the book? While it's later and unrelated, I'm also interested in Meiji period western-inspired typefaces like hinodeji, but those also have a small community of single artists who have made fonts for them.

There still needs to be more Chinese characters to justify that price tag. You can barely spell ANYTHING with the font! You expect Chinese people to write with a font that doesn't even cover half their writing system? Not to mention the Latin characters are basically illegible.
