@planetearth22492 жыл бұрын

@Disktoaster2 жыл бұрын
Computers think of shapes in terms of vertices, so no matter how smooth something looks, in reality it's a series of points that can be connected to make a shape. Most points are most easily connected with triangles, single their only shape constraint is "connects three coplanar points" and since three is the fewest points from which you can make a plane, any three points in existence will always be coplanar. Think of a perfect sphere, were it rendered vertex-by-vertex, instead of with an algorithm that simplifies the shape into a series of triangles and/or rhombuses as a 3d modeler would use. There aren't any vertices in a real sphere, so there's no real number of points which could ever make a perfect render of one. You'd need infinite points, which would would literally take infinite processing power and never load in. So that's why older characters from games made for less powerful machines look blockier; the processing power left over for calculating all the points within your character after they'd used the rest making the game work was limited to maybe a few dozen data points instead of the thousands or millions that today's GPUs can run.

You are an inspiration to me that I will never stop being thankful for. If I hadn't gone down the Vsauce rabbit hole I wouldn't have discovered all the wonderful things the math side of KZbin contains. I remember the first time I found out the gyroelongated pentagonal bipyramid was an icosahedron being flabbergasted by the incredible realization. Odds are, he scripts out the main idea, and the roadmap for talking points, but the actual dialogue feels very ad-libbed, but not bs, mainly because you can tell he's obviously very passionate about this sorta stuff (science)
