This was well done, but I disagree with his take on Ankhesenamun and Aye. Since there is stella with Tutankhamun naming Horemheb as his successor, I believe it was Horemheb, the commoner, who Ankhesenamun was trying to avoid. Grandpa Aye, was likely a solution to her problem and kept Horemheb off the throne for a few years.

I'm going to ask a question that I hope doesn't come off as rude; who is Curtis? Just because I recently found his channel and watched his first trip to Egypt one and people knew who he is and wanted selfies. I saw some older thumbnails of previous work - but I guess I'm just old to make sense of it. And how does he get the private access to these locations? Really like the channel - great camera work, angles, lighting, CHOICES, and stitched together so smoothly.

He is South African egyptologist and filmmaker. I don't know details, but he seems very close to native Egyptian researchers. He had interviews with many famous egyptologists (like Zahi Hawass, Chris Naunton and Kara Cooney) in older vids on his channel. I think he currently lives in Europe.

Very interesting. Really enjoying this journey into Ancient Egypt and finding out things about people I didn't yet know of. Ramses II puzzles me when I see people making a real life image of him, though. I knew before he had red hair, yet he is always 'revived' with dark eyes. Most people with red hair have green eyes and I feel his eyes were also green. Having said, the image here is my favourite, as it shows the transition from the old to the young Ramses and vice versa.

Thank you Curtis for your hard work and perseverance. This documentary is a great piece. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I often wanted to watch some parts more than once; therefore, I hit the rewind button frequently. The Cleopatra segment was very well done. One disappointment in this segment was the input by Mahmoud Rashad. I'm sure that he must be a very good researcher and filmmaker, but his research contribution fell well short of scholarship and was well noted. Mahmoud’s discussion on race or skin tone was emotional and had little or nothing to do with facts. Scholars know that during the golden age of antiquity in Egypt neither the Greeks nor Romans had not settled in Africa. His comments that Africa is multicultural and has always been was emotional and inaccurate. That would be analogous to saying that Scandinavia was always “multicultural, based on skin tone as early as Scandinavian Antiquity. Comments using his family to illustrate his point ( “he is dark and his family with light skin and light eyes”) only illustrated his emotions. Before the Greeks and Romans migrated to Kamit( Kemet or Egypt) the inhabitants were dark-skinned Kushites. The Greeks coined Kemet as Egypt. As for the point of Cleopatra, according to the scholars she was Egyptian and perhaps part Greek, however, there is nothing that indicates that she was solely Kushite or Nubian of which you are aware. Mahmoud‘s cheapest “parting shot” in essence was his comment that African Americans and their beliefs about Kemet’s antiquity are due to their history of skin tone issues in America. Race is not only an American issue, it's a global issue. While the effects of slavery have resulted in deep psychological issues for Americans in general others are very much affected as well. Thank you Curtis for a great film.

'Before the Greeks and Romans migrated to Kamit( Kemet or Egypt) the inhabitants were dark-skinned Kushites. ' - This is not true - Kushites were different ethnicity. Egyptians always depicted themselves as different with completely different features. Egypt was in Mediterranean area, in bit different climate, so people were different. Of course there was intermixing with Nubians, but to say they were all the same Kushite is not true. Light skinned people from Levant and Berbers from Libya were intermixing with Egyptians long before Greeks came, since prehistory, contributing into phenotype. Just look at image when Tut fights with Kushites - are you gonna tell me there is no difference in look? Mahmoud statement is quite accurate - Egypt always was place with people of different racial phenotypes. His segment is important, because he shows perspective of indigenous Egyptian - fact that his own family members have both dark and light tones shows how much diverse are Egyptian phenotypes.

Regarding akenaten I saw a documentary (Sadly am not an expert) that says Akeanthen may have choosen to abandon the other gods because of the preists that had grown too srotng- even stronger than the pharaoh- robbing them of the religion meant claiming back their power and making them supposedly irelevant, and giving himself the ulitamte power as head priest. Although this was a decent documentary, there are some inaccuracies. Like Ankhsenamun age of disappearance she would’ve been at least 25 not 20. It’s also suggested that Ankh wrote the Hittite but it’s not confirmed that she did. Personally, I think it was her older sister Meritaten and she got disgraced for it. Those letters were found in Amarna if I’m not mistaken. Tut left Amarna. That would make the candidate who wrote the letter Meritaten. These are theories not facts.

In the Priests eyes they thought that she was trying to outmaneuver Tut from the throne when really she was trying to protect her family’s legacy. So let me get this straight. They compare the DNA from hair in a box labeled queen tiye and the elder lady andnit matches, but thats not enough evidence for Hawas to confirm her identity. He needed additional evidence (which is smart) BUT when using ONLY xray comparissons, no DNA tests or anything, just comparing Xrays, Hawas swears they found hatshepsut because they found a tooth in a sealed canopic jar labeled with hatshepsut and it vaguely matches a mummy who is missing a similar tooth.... so which is is? Are we supposed tonhave multiple pieces of evidence supporting a theory, or does that not apply when 1 piece supports your theory, thus it mist be good enough? I get the feeling Hawad might have not been happy in the discovery of Tiye for some reason. Like he was upset he wasnt involved or something?

True, but then you should ask question: if Nefertiti was his mother, why SHE became Pharaoh after Akhenaten, instead of her son? There would be no need for this - Tut would be King and she would be regent, Instead she took the throne herself. (Probably; even if it was not her, new ruler was still female.) Also - we know nothing about Nefertiti and Kiya's parentage. If Nefertiti could be Akehnaten's cousin, so could Kiya. (But I personaly don't believe anyone of them was - I think Younger Lady is his sister.)

I would still choose Cleopatra. But I think to me it's partly because we have most info about her. Roman, Greek and Jewish historians wrote rumors and anecdotes about her. We know they aren't 100 % accurate but at least they show SOMETHING. They show complex character of proud woman who was educated, charming, cunning, who was terrible sister, but who loved her children and was supportive partner to Mark Antony and appear to truly love him, even when he lost everything. About Hatshepsut and Nefertari we don't know nothing. I agree they were both fascinating. Hatshsepsut became Pharaoh and co-ruler with male Pharaoh, which no other woman did before (the only female king before her was sole ruler). Why she did this? Why she couldn't simply be regent, if she let boy still rule? Or why she tried make her daughter next Pharaoh, yet she didn't make any move againts her stepson? There is many fascinating mysteries about Hatshepsut life but none of this tell us anything about her personality. We only have idealistic narration of her. We don't know what was her ultimate goal, whom she loved, what kind of daughter/sister/wife/mother/step-mother she was. Same with Nefertari - we know Ramesses II loved her and she had many childern... and that's it. To me Hatshepsut reign is bit boring - after she crowned herself a Pharaoh, she basically rule for 15 years and while no doubt many fascinating plots and affairs happened in Plaace during this time, we know nothing about them. We know she was apparently very succesfull, but we don't know WHY. Maybe she was wise woman... or maybe bloody tyrant whom everyone was afair of - we don't know. We know about problems of Cleopatra and we can make up our own mind about what kind of persen she was. We don't know this about Hatshepsut or any other pre-ptolemaic Queen.

@pendragonsxskywalkers9518 well i am not saying Cleopatra is not interesting character, she is indeed.her political life was really an interesting matter.I ain't saying she was bad or anything. It's just Hatsepsut is interesting for me(personally) because she too had to do things to get peope beside her,she too had to do things for which her stepson couldn't not murder her, or nobody could question her authority, more importantly she too must have played an interesting game for the throne like cleo,it's just she is my favorite because she in her time was the first female pharaoh who didn't hide she was pharaoh. However, I agree with everything you say except the(Hatshepsut reign being boring though i know it's your personal opinion and i respect that.)

@@noonecomment7197 I know, I understand and I also respect your opinions. It is sometimes good to exchange some views. I think the most interesting part of Hatshepsut's life is her regency time when she made her way to became Pharaoh - but unfortunately no detail is known (as of yet). When I siad "boring", I meant that no known drama is known (there had to be many dramas as in everyone's life, but we can only speculate). I mean it's good for her if she indeed had peacfull life - but there is no so much to tell about her later reign, except she was succesfull, and some people are drawned towards more dramatic stories. (The same can be said about Amenhotep III who was no doubt great kings, but egyptologist Joyce Tyldesley described him as "bit boring", as he was succesfull ruler and there is not much to dicussed. His son Akhenate and grandson Tut on other hand... Akhenaten was disaster and Tut tragic figure, so they are more intriguing.) I would consider though her early reign very interesting, as it mysterious how she managed became Pharaoh, what was her inentions towards her step-son and her daughter, but I would need more details to judge her as person.

@pendragonsxskywalkers9518 I understand, and what you wrote is also true, indeed.I too would also love to know her reasons and working way to become Pharoah. Maybe that's why I am drawn to her story. And i too respect your opinion about Cleopatra, her reign, unlikely to other pharaohs, was tangled with many political issues and it indeed made her reign of history interesting. In a word I think both were interesting in their own way, both did what they needed to survive.

I usually respect people, even if I don't like what they do. But, there comes a point when, support ceases also. Anyways, what a great effort, to, engage, in scientific genealiogical data, which is equal to dynamiting the whole mind in what the obvious is clear. So,let's say that, it IS NEFERTITI. THEN WHAT? After, you done ruined everything. Are you happy now? I'm just looking at this through an observers eye. Calling it as I see it. It's not fair, to leave out all the details that are true, without a doubt. WHAT EVER!!. TY ❤

The first hethaparus was definitely a albino women thats why she looked like that definitely has an afro she had the oranges blondish hair color that a lot of albino black women have…..it doesn’t make sense for her to be a white women and have all those darker toned children like that if it wasn’t a genetic thing ….

Albinos have white hair... not orange. You can't know how was her skin or skin her children. While I agree that one not very realistic image cannot be prove of her being blonde, she and her family were from North and could easily have lighter skin. Egyptians were multi-racial.

@@6878295WRONG. Ancient Egyptians had even less Black ancestry than modern day Egyptians. They were Mediterranean people who came from the Levant and the Mediterranean area. They were most definitely not Sub-Saharan by geography nor ancestry.
