Oikonomia IS economy. It’s the same word. Oikos means home/residence. “Oi” makes the English ee sound, so it’s pronounced ekonomía. Latin i sound. So economi(a)/oikonomia is literally residence-age. The doing of the residence. Thus meaning upkeep.

I'm just putting it out there because it's kind of tiring for us Greeks when hearing certain letter combinations being read so wrong 🙂 so "οι" and "ει" sound exactly like "η" and "αι" sounds exactly like "ε" and it is highly unlikely from a linguistic point of view, that they were pronounced so differently. 🙂

Like the Roman's it was probably collected somehow via the central courtyard to be used for later. Roman houses were improved upon by adding a central pool designed just for this.

In the narration, a well or cistern is mentioned... this means that rainwater was collected underneath the courtyard for storage
