Kāne'ohe what they said was the name to whom the chant was dedicated to. In this case King David Kalakaua. He(in the) 'inoa (name) no (of) ka (the) Lani (heaven, heavenly one or royal) Kalakaua. Also your name, Kāne'ohe means bamboo man, Kāne meaning bamboo, 'ohe meaning man. If you are of kanaka Hawai'i descent please I encourage you to learn the language, it's beautiful and it is very sacred, if you live here in Hawai'i, please out of respect for the indigenous people here learn the language and culture and help us protect the land. Be apart of the solution not the problem. 'Aloha

I love this! And what did they say at 0:38? I want to know what they said in Hawaiian and English at that moment. Also, I have heard that before in some other videos on KZbin.

+Kaneohe He inoa no kalani Kalākaua - The chant dedicated to king Kalākaua. Inoa means name and kind of chant dedicated to an important person. Lani is sky and here- chief. Ka in front of the word is the. No means to, for, sometimes- about.

That is because most of our culture/bloodline has been wiped out due to obvious reasons and invasion.

Jason Potts, sad that you have not been lucky enough to know these people, or their lineage.

I just think it should be a requirement to learn and teach. No one on the mainland tries to learn native american dancing our chants so why does everyone choose native hawaiian dance when its not even there culture. Probably because tourist dont care and its about making money............
