I'm told the Tower of Babel was a ziggurat. (I originally said "is" when I meant "was.", and after this edit, forgot the closing parenthesis.)

This is inncorect Shamash was the god of justice not the sun god
@ArtHistoryBasix7 жыл бұрын
He was associated with the sun and justice. See below: "Shamash (shä′mäsh), sun god of Semitic origin, worshiped in Babylonia and Assyria. He was one of the great deities of ancient Middle Eastern religions, god of law, order, and justice. The chief center of his cult was Sippar. In Sumerian civilization he was called Utu." 2017. "Shamash." Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6Th Edition 1. Academic Search Premier, EBSCOhost (accessed September 29, 2017).

Persia deserves more explanations... that wasn't enough. because it was the first empire in the world also the greatest😑😑 you can't added it to Sumerian Babylonian and Assyrian...Persia is a different empire in other side of the world how could you connect it to those😑
@sheedmm21747 жыл бұрын
mahsa ahmadpour the first empires in the world were the sumerians and Akkadian of ancient Iraq.

I see your point. If I had more time in my class, I certainly would separate Mesopotamian cultures and the Persian Empire. Unfortunately, the textbook covers them in the same chapter, so I'm following that organization. Thanks for your feedback!

Egypt is the biggest civilization in the ancient near east, why the hell is that not included? Why do people confuse a region like the middle east/near east (which is transcontinental) with western asia? The 2 are not synonymous. So ignorant
@arabpride99395 жыл бұрын
@@eh-lo2do No, Egypt was part of the fertile crescent but it was not part of Mesopotamia. And no, the first most complex civilization was ancient Egypt. The question of whether or not Summer's civilization came before ancient Egypt is a different topic and is still disputed. Also the title state "Ancient Near East" so naturally with a title like that, Egypt should included.
@arabpride99395 жыл бұрын
@@eh-lo2do" first complex civilization was Mesopotamia"... Mesopotamia is not a civilization it is a region that had multiple ancient civilizations. The first civilization of Mesopotamia was Sumer but Sumer and ancient Egypt's civilizations arose about the same time give or take. Later civilizations of Mesopotamia were the Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Chaldeans, etc all those civilizations that came after sumer were newer than ancient Egypt . The only disputed older civilization in Mesopotamia is Sumer. It looks like you don't know what you are talking about.
@arabpride99395 жыл бұрын
@@eh-lo2do In your first comment you confused the Near East with Mesopotamia. The Near East doesn't just include Mesopotamia. It also includes the Levant region and Egypt. Then in your second comment you were the one who said Mesopotamia was a civilization and I quot "first complex civilization was Mesopotamia". It's not my fault that you don't know how to convey or articulate what you mean. Also you thought that all of the Mesopotamian civilizations were older than Egypt which is false. Only Sumer is a possibly older civilization than Egypt out of the other Mesopotamian civilizations if we don't consider Egypt's establishment before the unification of upper and lower Egypt. The unification of Egypt happened in 3100BC and that is how we usually date back how old Egypt's civilization was but Egypt as a civilization existed before that unification of 3100BC. Anyways, it looks like you have been to American schools which shows how ignorant you are of this subject. The American education system is terrible and you just proved it to me lol
