You haven't debunked anything. You didn't even tell us the DNA of the Olmecs. Also, why do you keep using Razib Khan? Are you afraid to bring Dejian Yuan and Shi Huang to your show? Real geneticists have already debunked Razib. Genetic science is changing really fast and Razib is using the old school of thought. The new school of thought shows that Neanderthals, and Denisovans had the same blood type as Africans. They came out of Africa and spread across the world. Then another group of people who migrated from East Asia, mixed with the Neanderthals. It was these admixed people who first occupied the Americas before the last wave of Siberians/North Eurasians entered. So were the Olmecs African? Not necessarily Africans of today but rather an ancient African race that mixed with a very ancient East Asian race. That East Asian race was also dark. The Olmecs were absolutely black. Their immediate ancestors on their maternal line was African. References www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/130989v2.full.pdf journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0254175

Like all other indigenous peoples of the Americas, the ancestors of the olmecs migrated across a land bridge that once connected Eastern Russian with Alaska. A lot of assumptions here, especially without any genetic material strictly related to the people portrayed by the Olmecs, just for that, Mr. Khan has no reason to patronize us with his preconceptions. The range of ethnological traits in Olmec sculpture is quite ample, it was not the case with the Maya or Pre-Incaic cultures, and there must be a reason for this. One of my colleagues comes from Suriname, but his recent ancestors came from Java, no doubt about it. His face is a living, flashy, talking version of the twins' ones adoring a jaguar group found in the 80s. Definitely, his face doesn't belong to the skull variation range of native South Americans, which is quite limited since Khan insists on the already obsolete theory of the Siberian Migration, which implies a limited ( relatively ) range of somatic characters, in fact, his routes are from the Indonesian Islands. Isn't just possible that different people had contact with Mexico in the past but their probable offspring has just been extinguished, as it has so often happened in history to different looking people, for whatever reason, through genocide?

@Ario James3 that would make sense, I mean isn't the 18th dynasty the one with Ramses, Akhenaten and Tutankhamun? Ramses and Tut were both gingers. Plus, there was that one genetic study showing that Tut shares like... 70% of his DNA with (white) Americans and Brits, 50% with mainland Europeans, and less than 1% with the current, local population in Egypt. Plus there's the story of how Scotland got it's name, from Princess Scotia whom apparently came from Egypt. The time that would've happened was roughly the same time Tut's sister Meritaten disappeared or """died""". Given that Rh negativity seems to descend from the same route as R1a and R1b YDNA, if the King of the Picts or Dal Riada (I forget which kingdom) married Princess Scotia and had kids, as the story goes, they would've both been Rh-, since Rh negativity is prevalent in Celtic peoples of the United Kingdom and Ireland. A lot of genetic information is confirming certain """stories""". This is why I love this subject

Like all other indigenous peoples of the Americas, the ancestors of the olmecs migrated across a land bridge that once connected Eastern Russian with Alaska. These people followed migrating animals across the land bridge, before fanning out across the Americas. The ancestors of the Olmecs would have travelled through Northern Canada, down through what is now the United States and into Mexico, where they then settled.

Obviously mister Khan was referring to the prescense of Melanesian genomes in South American cohorts and these Melanesians carry genomes of unknown hominids, they do however also carry the most genetic trace material of Denisovan ancestry. We all know what Melanesians look like, and even they are being denied their current status as the first nations people of SE Asia for the sake of geopolitical narratives. The Melanesian cohorts have oral and pictorial histories that are still very much in tact and alive, and also very much unexplored by Western Scholars to this day ever since the first European set foot in SE Asia and the Pacific. Lucky for me I am of exactly that stock and all the race politics got me so interested in the why that now 30 years later I know the history exactly how it is. So what to you sounds like innocent preserving of opinion by academics, sounds to me as another annoying attempt to steer away from admitting the obvious truth - that the cohorts in the Americas were indeed carrying BLACK ancestry, and thus, people in the Americas looked as black as they come. Now just because this specific cohort of Indigenous Americans are descendents from NOT AFRICA - but AUSTRALASIA - does NOT mean these people were NOT BLACK. So why detour this conversation just to bash on "Afrocentrism" even though what they actually mean to say is "black civilizations could never have accomplished such things in this period in time.". Instead - it is "A Mystery", it is "unknown", it even is "weird". Something that sounds all too familiar with those that directly caused the anti-Eurocentric movement of Afrocentrism by their same approach of denialism and historical reformation. However, throughout history it has been very undoubtetly clear that the Melanesians from the Wallacean territories invented the technology that allowed Catamaran type oceanfaring vessels and were expert ocean navigators tens of thousands of years ago, that have made it possible for these Oceanians to reach East Africa and West Americas long before any other civilization managed to do so, and left their traces set in stone. I find it sad that even the scientific community practices racial preferences and aims to deny historic truth for the sake of race politics. It is not doing anyone any service, it is corrupted with ego and false pride. Rather than looking at the facts for what they are - they aim to distort and delay a part of our human history that is right in front of us - yet - for the integrity of our current historical narrative - must be kept under the rug - because if mankind really just sprung from ape-like savagery 6000 years ago - how could people have carried iron tools 12.000 years ago? How could giant buildings have been built on tiny Pacific islands in the middle of the ocean during the last ice age? Yeah... Let's all keep ostricazing the truth and deny until we die, or until we find a way to again reroute around the prescense of blackness in those parts of history yet again.

A study of the isolated tribes in the Amazon should also have evidence of, or lack of, African DNA. Has anyone studied that particular DNA?
@fraso73313 жыл бұрын
A lot of them were not isolated before around 1700. Some tribes decided to withdraw into the forest to avoid the portugeese slave hunters from brazil, while other fled to jesuite settlements and some were forced to do so. Many were killed during the war between Spain and Portugal for this region. The war was followed by a smallpox epidemic. All this lead to tabus within some tribes, banning contact. Search for Samuel Fritz, a german or czech-german* Jesuit missionary from Bohemia. He wrote a diary, drew the first usable map of the amazonas river and at one point he even gave the advice to withdrew into the forest. (In Brazil for some time it was cheaper to buy new slaves than to feed them. Fritz knew, that within the woods his faithful would become pagan again, but at one desperate point he saw no other possibility.) Fun fact: During the 19th centuries there were expeditions to find the settlements early discoverers wrote about. Since they could'nt find them and didn't know the history of the jesuite Missionaries, they concluded those settlements to be a myth. You can still find it in history books. I wonder, how many real cities and people are considered to be a myth, because of such fallacies. But those expeditions had the map done by Samuel Fritz with them. Since the region was in focus of Jesuits from Germany, Bohemia and Italy you perhaps would find german, czech and italian DNA also.

Lastly the paleo-siberian genetics are from people who migrated out of Africa 60,000 years ago (at least). If you look at the jarawa people in the Adaman islands they're probably the paleo-siberian phenotype of the time not the 60-70% dna from modern Asians as he explained (Chinese, Japanese). This was a great video. The growth of ice sheets commenced 33k years ago with maximum coverage on land being reached at 26,5k years ago. Starting at 18,000 years ago the glaciers began to slowly recede. By 14,5k years ago sealevels abruptly rise. And what do we see? Migrants from Beringia coming down the coast in small boats as soon as conditions allow, possibly even before the last glacial maximum. They go from Beringia to Monte Verde in southern Chile by 14,5k and that’s around 9,600miles. I bet when they got to panama 16-5k years ago, they immediately hopped over the Isthmus and discovered the Atlantic Ocean. Now the Beringian migration splits up in three directions: one headed straight south to Chile, one headed north along the Gulf of Mexico, and one headed south towards Brazil. Eventually these migrants will strike the Mississippi and the Amazon and the other big rivers and use them as highways to populate the interior of North and South America. Apparently all of the oldest Clovis sites are in the East, especially around Chesapeake bay. That whole region with it’s oysters and blue crabs must have seemed like a paradise for early man. Rising sea levels after 14,5k years ago would have driven the migrants far inland. Clovis people weren’t coming down the ice free corridor, which was open but pretty much sterile. They were instead invading North America from the south, headed north. Some of the most recent and youngest Clovis points are found up in Canada and eastern Alaska, so in about 10-8k years the migrants had come full circle back up to the Arctic. No European or African migrations needed to explain the diversity in the Americas.

how much mixing would (time) would it take to get rid of the other DNA? There's no evidence that more cultures existed in the area before the Olmecs, the DNA evidence from Naia (12000 years ago)points to Asian. Though factually correct, raped is a little crass. I do find it interesting how an Italian caused blame for all the Spaniards, still I'm of the mind that Columbus did not discover anything since at the very least the new world was populated 12000-13000 years ago. THE TRUE ORIGIN OF THE OLMECS ANN CYPHERS MTDN and Olmec descent The first DNA studies in ancient cultures date back to the 1980s. Initially, the protocols were laborious, time-consuming and expensive. As of the 2000s, the improvement of the techniques led to its greater application in archaeology. The general public has been kept abreast of developments and discoveries through research that has received much attention worldwide, particularly studies of genetic material obtained from Egyptian mummies and Neanderthal remains. To carry out this type of study, it is necessary to obtain undegraded and uncontaminated human remains from a reliable archaeological context, which allows knowing their dating and cultural affiliation. In the history of Olmec archaeology, this set of conditions had not occurred until recently. The first human remains excavated in an Olmec site were the two individuals buried in the Tomb of Basaltic Columns of La Venta, but the bone material could not be recovered due to its deplorable state of preservation; it can be said that they almost disappeared before the very eyes of the archaeologists who opened the grave. The 1990s brought new discoveries by the "San Lorenzo Tenochtitlán Archaeological Project". Olmec sealed contexts with human burials were found, which are the optimal archaeological conditions to study ancient DNA. Physical anthropologist Enrique Villamar devoted himself to the careful taking of samples from two burials from the Olmec period and their meticulous processing at Cinvestav, with the support of specialists María de Lourdes Muñoz Moreno and Miguel Moreno Galeana. He carried out a study of mitochondrial DNA (MTDNA) that allows tracing inheritance through the maternal line and defining haplogroups. Haplogroups are "mitochondrial lineages" that are of great antiquity and transcend all kinds of cultural, temporal and geographical limits in the world. Villamar writes that: This property of the ADNMT offers anthropology a means to trace the historical evolution of contemporary and also past populations. Thanks to this, the repertoire of maternal lineages is known on a global scale, their geographic-temporal distribution and, in addition, the original lineages of each continent. The pioneering MTDN study carried out on Olmec individuals, one from San Lorenzo and the other from Loma del Zapote, resulted, in both cases, in the unequivocal presence of distinctive mutations of the “A” maternal lineage. That is to say, the origin of the Olmecs is not in Africa but in America, since they share the most abundant of the five characteristic mitochondrial haplogroups of the native populations of our continent: A, B, C, D and X. It should be noted that the small size of the sample is not an important factor because the genetic memory contained in human bodies encodes maternal lineages and transcends generations, territories and times. If Africans had resided in the Mesoamerican territory during very remote times, their mitochondrial DNA would be present in later generations. Since none of the other DNA studies of 300 individuals from other pre-Hispanic sites and times have found evidence of African haplogroups, it is further proof that the Olmecs were not of African stock. Ann Cyphers. PhD in history from UNAM.
