It’s a shame that so much of Ancient Rome was pillaged for building material for medieval construction. They didn’t appreciate what they had!
@Diatom1k9 ай бұрын

@CaptainGrimes19 ай бұрын
To be fair they didn't destroy the buildings when they looked like this, the baths for example stopped working in the 6th century when the aqueducts were destroyed and then they were abandoned and overgrown, earthquakes toppled columns and walls and from that was scavenged material to build churches and housing. Don't forget the people of medieval Rome were living in one vast ruin of a city built for a population of a million not the ten thousand or so by that point, they just needed to survive so saving non working, crumbling ruins that had once been a bathhouse would have made no sense.

Thank you for your donation, but as I said many times already, I never reply to such questions. Almost all basic 3d programs are equivalent, there is not a single one which can make 'magic' on its own.

Magnificent work! Congratulations. I would like to add that most of the destruction of the great Imperial buildings was carried out by the fanatical Christians and later on, in a more methodical manner, by the Catholic Church, determined to erase any vestiges of the old Roman civilization. For a well-documented description of that process I recommend Catherine Nixey´s book "THE DARKENING AGE"
@historyin3d9 ай бұрын
I would recommend reading the Nixey´s book only in the context of other studies. This book is VERY biased and contains a number of very arbitrary generalizations. For a REALLY well-documented description of that process it is necessary to begin with the fundamental works of Lanciani and Gregorovius, and then follow the path of main studies of Roman topography till our time. Thank you for your kind words about our project!
