Have you seen one of the last videos from Jay? He was showing some weird behavior on RDNA3 and 2 cards when overclocking. Simplyfied that if increasing minimum clocks too close to maximum will cause the card somehow throtling and actually losing performance even though clocks and everything is correct, rather than just leaving it at 500 where boosts are the same and performance is actually higher. Noticed the same behavior even on my 6900xt

Not sure if i'm late but Red Devil cards had a batch with incorrect thermal paste placement on the GPU core which results in bad temps. ( the paste doesn't cover the whole gpu plating) Could be the issue with yours too. I would just remove the cooler and re-paste the GPU. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and i don't have thermal issue so mine is out of the bad batch.

@tamaskerecsenyi3300 I had a launch 7900xtx red devil Ltd edition. Sent back last month due to 30 plus delta in games. Retailer sent it to Powercolor and they refunded it within 2 days, not sure if they even attempted to fix as if its a simple paste job surely it wouldn't take much work, or maybe timescales of going back to Taiwan and back would exceed 30 days so retailer protected customer turnaround times. Got a merc xfx instead and was £300 less than what I paid at launch for red devil.

Woah, great tutorial. Undervolt and overclock tutorials for the 7900XTX on KZbin is usually unclear about how RDNA3 works and I often get unstable crashes here and there with exceptionally high power consumption and loud fan noises, while the performance never seems to change much, since the references I saw simply do not understand the structure. But with your tutorial, not only have I solved the wattage and fan problem (it's at least 100w lower and the fans were a lot quieter), I also got a decent performance boost and stable game play through out my own stress test. Afterwards, the hotspot temps never got above 78° at 55% max fan speed. The 7900x will also handle anything you need and mine is stable with a -30 voltage offset. Regarding RMA's in EU, we have it easy. Many retailers offer 3-year warranty and will refund entirely if they cannot replace the product. Repairing is not an option for a wide range of products. A few years ago I had to RMA an RTX card after 2 years and 8 months. In the meantime, while I had it, I've disassembled it numerous times for cleaning, pads change etc (none of the screws had any seal on it) - that didn't pose any issue for RMA. In 3 days I had a refund of what I paid because the card could no longer be replaced (out of stock). This is the best scenario tbf, I added 100 bucks on top of that and bought another top of the line card.

@Spyby Yeah I did have a play and got some good results, with the card power limit increased and the lowest undervolt / highest Mhz the card would pull north of 400watts. So to me: 1. just choose the GPU Overclock and that’s will be fine. 2. Don’t mess with the VRam if you put it to high it crash immediately. 3. At the GPU Tuning part just adjust around 1050 or 1060 (at Voltage), 3050 or 3045 (at Max Frequency), default the Min and the Power Limit just go 15 or 10 then everything will be good. And that’s my OC what do you think

Card runs cool, but it is winter as well, even if I consider 20c more in summer you can't really have the total picture so will have to wait and check temps over warmer ambient. Overall card is very stable with the current settings, no crashes, no stuttering which makes me confortable this card has a future and copium for better drivers to really unleash its full potential. Great video have a nice evening :)

This is not a dig against you at all…it’s just the majority of the cards I have seen are showing much larger deltas, limiting their thermal headroom. I have mentioned this to you before and you claimed sapphire was a better manufacturer. According to other sources (powercolorsteve), all reference cards come from AMD. I’m just hoping someone comes out with an actual fix for these cards. Whether it be mounting pressure, better thermal paste or getting rid of the convex cold plate of the vapor chamber.

I have been able to hit 1075mv 2875 gameclock and 2750 memory overclock 15+ power draw on reference edition. Key thing is do not limit the clocks let it go from 500 to 2875. I have noticed games like horizon zero dawn only crash because the core clocks drop to 2300mhz if you limit it at 2400 boom it crashes. That seems like driver bug with that game, but stablity wise it can keep going to 3000 mhz on that game without breaking a sweat. Hitting 70c on a reference edition hitting high 165 to 230 max fps. Lower frames that this game hits in big city and core clocks drop go into high 80 to 90s. I love stability with high frame rates. I would also recommend msi after burner. As it's help with test to get most performance and it will guarantee the fan speeds. Amd software bugs out when it comes to fan speeds. You set 50 it might go 900 it should be higher if you set 100 it will stay at 1600 when it should be about 3000. So much testing on 7900 xtx from amd. I can't wait for them to fix so much to it. Allow us to use av1 encoding on discord and obs. I am excited to see fsr 3.0. It fits into my case just barley, but it does which makes all the difference. I couldn't get 4080 or 4090. Congrats for another helpfull video :) There has been some reports on very high junction temps for the reference models of the 7900 xtx, some even reaching 110Celcius. I was wondering... did you noticed a big decrease in GPU hotspot temps when undervolting, or does it stay pretty much the same delta between Stock, Max OC and undervolted?
@AncientGameplays Жыл бұрын
My temps are good at all settings but the UV does bring hotspot temps down
@damara2268 Жыл бұрын
Those are quality control problems. Most probably the fault is in the cooler mount system which isn't providing optimal pressure. If your gpu reaches 110°C hotspot at stock settings and throttles down because of that you should get a replacement because you won't be able to fix that without limiting the GPU performance.
@legendofthes33ker Жыл бұрын
@@damara2268 yup, i also gathered that fact. I read somewhere that if the card is mounted vertically it won't reach such high hotspot temps, it clearly spells poor cooler mount. in those cases might be resolved with tensioning the screws a bit more. But haven't found any reports stating that it would fix it. It seems AMD isn't accepting RMA for those cards, stating that the temps are within spec. I don't have a 7900xtx reference board card, i'm planning on aquiring the Sapphire Nitro + Vapor-X 7900xtx. Thank you for this. Certainly great to get some benchmarks to see how saving power affects performance, will certainly be using these. I think I understand the voltage more now, as a percentage that you lower rather than an exact figure (is that possibly why it defaults to %), was confused why voltage never reached what I'd set it to (even though it would still crash). Personally with power limit at +15 and max at 2900 my junction temp was hitting over 100c but looking at your video it doesn't get anywhere near that. From my testing, one minute it's fine at around 80-90c but suddenly hits 105c when nothing changed - still wondering if my card is faulty. @@AncientGameplays And guess what, I just said this today and Tech Yes City just proved that 7900XTX undervolting don't do anything, just like I said he use a hardware voltage measuring device to prove it, and even worse the 7900XTX has an idle power problem where is idling at 50 - 80W when you use a high refresh rate monitor. @@dennythescar80s8 You're not always right, not even 1%. In fact, you don't even have the card.. 50-80W is only for some very specific scenarios or dual monitors and was mostly fixed on the 22.12.2 driver, I use 3440x1440 160Hz and I have it idling at 16W, lol. Undervolting does DO effect things, and that's why you have lower power draw once you reduce the voltage. But different frequencies have different base voltages, and when boosting close to the max, the "base" voltage will be the max one in most cases, so the undervolting won't be felt. In ANY other frequency slightly below that (depends on the game) the undervolting can be easily seen by the reduced power draw. @@AncientGameplays Well you are 100% wrong, all i said is proved. Your card has a huge problem as well like other thousands cards out there. AMD has a HUGE problem, they designed the cooler wrong the vapor chamber is the problem so is a hardware problem that can't be fix from software, more like a mechanical problem that is for ALL reference coolers design. So, AMD needs to call ALL cards back to replace the coolers if you want the 110C hot spot problem to disappear and the cards to work well without throttling. Proved by der8aurs. Again, i am 100% right watch Tech Yes City and see how he only use a single high refresh rate monitor to make the AMD 7900XTX hit over 50W in idle. That is bad. What you are talking about is an old problem, ages ago. What i am saying is a new problem specific with 7900 cards. Again, watch Tech Yes City how he clearly said the software don't do anything, undervolting and overclocking 7900 cards is very WIERD do to badly design cards they are. If Nvidia had just a few melting cards with the new connector. Well AMD has ALL reference cards with problems, that means thousands. I did hope for AMD to do these cards well but once again my fear about AMD being bad at making GPUs was proved again. Sorry pale but you can't deny these problems again like you always do. Prior to the RX 7900 XT, I had an XFX RX 6750 XT installed and never had this problem. The problem is not specific just to the XFX brand, as the problem has been reported for 7000 series cards from every manufacturer. The monitor I am using is a Samsung 85" 4K QLED HDTV at 120Hz. There are no additional issues when I run a stress test. Anyone have any idea what causes this or have you heard any kind of fix? Should I try running DDU? I'm at a loss.

I’m curious, why does the 7800XT have the minimum frequency kept at 500MHz but the 7900XTX we bring up the minimum frequency? Is bringing up the minimum frequency still the correct way to go about tuning the 7900XTX?

Hello @AncientGameplays , would you have any insight on the error i see many people say they have, me included, regarding driver timeouts, i just made a fresh new build with a 7900xtx and it gives a driver timeout in almost every game i play.
