I just finished Thucydides's book. The way he describes the doom of Demosthenes and Nicias is gut-wrenching. I hate Alcibiades.

This is the first in depth look of this campaign that I've found! The Peloponnesian Wars must have been devasting for the time... Doesn't seem like there's an area dominated by Greeks except Southern Italy that wasn't impacted by Athens and Sparta going at it. Is it safe to say that the rise of Thebes and Corinth and decline of Athens and Sparta ultimately gave Phillip a clear path to Macedonian hegemony? Obviously other factors are in play but it feels like the conflicts in mainland Greece during this time weakened everyone except the few states like Macedon that stayed fairly neutral.

Someone just loves total war rome 2 like me. Great video i didn't know much information about that war. Could you possible do about something we have like no idea? Maybe a war that takes place with Greek factions that are not well known? Or even a war in Minor Asia, Black Sea etc.

That was the Greek world in a nutshell though. -Peace between city-states! Until one of them gets involved in another war, the other side of which then takes the opposing side. -New leadership and everyone is happy! Until less than one year later, those same happy people revolt. -Multiple city-states unite under one flag! Until one of the unifying cities strikes a deal with a Greek enemy and everyone finds out about it. -Alexander unites them all! Until he dies, then his successors divide, trade, conquer and reconquer his empire for decades after. -Rome is invading and both the Epirates and Macedonians actually win some battles! Until they start focusing on Sicily (again), fighting each other (again), and Rome is able to levy quickly and bulldoze them. For 2,000 years, the Greeks did nothing but fight and backstab each other. Even during the Ottoman reign, they had chances to throw them off, but kept infighting (politically).

I just finished the book Peloponnesian War by Thucydides, and Alcibiades is a treacherous bastard. Unless I'm missing something huge? Did he not betray Nicias into Syracusan hands? Convincing Sparta to send a massive fleet and straight up betraying Athens? What am I missing?
