The Battle of Stamford Bridge was the result of a succession crisis in 1066 between three claimants to the English Throne. The battle between the two claimants Harold Godwinson and Harald Hardrada would be one of the most important battles fought for the English Throne in 1066.

I feel bad for that berserker, killed 40 all by his lonesome to give his men time to form ranks and they still lost. “Hey guys I just set a record that won’t be broken, until they make guns don’t make me die in vain!”

Perfect summary - I'm writing a short screenplay about William The Conqueror & was wondering if there's any relationship between William I & Harold pre-Battle Of Hastings to fuel their motivations.

Didn't the English have arrows?! Why didn't they use them against the lone Berserker on the bridge?

Ok, BUT .... why didn't the English use archers to bring the berserker down? Was it about honor? I don't think so, since they used honourless tactics to kill him from below. Does anyone have an answer to this? Do the chronicles and sagas omit this detail?
@SG-tx1fz
@SG-tx1fz 3 жыл бұрын
well they can't use arrows if hes to close to their men and if they use arrows being close to him he will probably kill them fist also it is likely that he stole some weapons and armor form the english like don't know a shield what is impressive is how the spear men couldn't kill him from the front he should have being pretty agile , fast and just strong overall

You know when you said there were three claimants to the throne, isn't it four claimants because Edgar Althing (who was the great nephew of Edward the Confessor)? And yes, I'm very late so I doubt that you'll reply.
@AncientHistoryGuy
@AncientHistoryGuy 3 жыл бұрын
True that, however calling Edgar a claimant at this stage is stretching it. He was after all only a child at the time, and even the wittan didn't really take him all that seriously, hence why Harold was elected king first. Even when he was declared king it was more a last ditched "oh bugger, um this boy can technically be king, quick crown him otherwise we don't have any authority to raise a new army against William." by the remaining Saxon lords. Really Edgar is interesting when he matures, he was a crusader after all! and then just to be even more badass it rumoured he joined the Vangarian guard. Might do a video on him never know....

25. september 1066 is the sadest day in norwegian history. But Norway had nothing to do in England in 1066 and our great Harald Hardrada was a brutal ruler. He died as he lived. Wars was his life.
