First time listening to Ne Obliviscaris ever!! This song!! Argh!! No wonder this is studied at the Conservatorium of Music, Sydney 😂 Call this a reaction if you must, but I tried to get as much analysis as I could get out from a first listening!

Thank you for having a look at this, you can see why we wanted your opinion on it. One of the beautiful things about this songs is you can go back and pick out things you missed each time.

If you get a chance, go see them live! I've seen them twice and they sounded just like this both times. The complexity of Plague makes that impressive.

HELL YEAH IT'S FINALLY HERE! I love how you were worried of not adding content or anything useful to the video and then 13:09 happened haha! That's exactly what we're waiting, man. And besides, i heard some people also like the fact that they can see that first reaction, because it reminds us of how we felt that very first time too, and we forget once we get used to it ( even if we still love the music ). And now, for my next "i will spam this until you react to it": Fleshgod Apocalypse - Epilogue ( they have an official music video, you can use that one ). Keep up the good work!

Professor Hindson commented: "I will be presenting 'And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope' to the composition students at the Conservatorium next semester as an exemplar in structure, mixing timbres, meters, modes, how to approach virtuosity, sound and noise, extended performance and techniques. The students will need to study 2 technical aspects of what Ne Obliviscaris have done in their music, and then use these techniques in their own classical music compositions." The Professor continues: "It is my pleasure to introduce such high quality music making to our students, alongside other music by composers including Beethoven, Gershwin, Steve Reich and Peter Sculthorpe. Musicians deserve to hear the music of Ne Obliviscaris, and the music of many other metal bands, in order to appreciate the compositional complexity that lies within it, no matter what their musical tastes."

Marc/Xen, the Dark Vocalist writes literally all of the lyrics and does the artwork for the Band. He is an incredibly talented and very humble guy, honestly all the guys are. This entire Band are consummate professionals. Dan Presland is also a down to Earth guy and I've messaged back n forth with him a bit. Seriously underappreciated band, not for long however 🤘🏻💪🏻

😆 I can only have merch if I’m educated at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music 😆 when I was at UNSW, it was a really highly regarded education program (many people opted to go to UNSW over Sydney Uni for music education). They don’t offer a composition degree though. Thanks so much for watching as always 😊

Haha, you seriously shouldn't worry about not adding enough value to the videos 😄 I've checked out probably 30+ reaction channels, and there's just three I've kept following after the initial Måneskin reactions. Out of those you easily add the most educational value, which is why I can take in many songs I couldn't sit through otherwise (not necessarily because they're bad, just too long or complicated or a style I don't especially like). Just the fact that you have a bunch of people commenting on so many videos regardless of the artist or song being analysed should be proof enough 😁
@durabelle

(I'm still hoping you get around to the best Måneskin songs at some point though, because you haven't heard any in my top5 yet and are definitely missing out!)

@@TheMuserResolute Coraline is definitely a top choice, love that song! Just be warned that that's the song most likely to bring complaints from the crazier fans if you a) don't choose a video with English lyrics, or b) talk over the best parts and dare miss any lines 😂 Those are seen as major sins. Having said that, please go on and do it your way anyways, as there's already a million reactions concentrating mostly on the lyrics and I feel like the musical side of the song gets less attention than it deserves! (The lyrics are deep though, very different to their English songs.)
@TheMuserResolute

Thanks for the warning! Die hard fans never cease to amaze me 😂. If there’s a particular video of it you’d recommend, please let me know. I absolutely love the Italian language so I think it’ll just make it all the more beautiful!
@durabelle
@durabelle 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMuserResolute The lyrics video by Valeria Della Torre has probably the most praised English translation with Italian lyrics, can't go badly wrong with that one. And yes, I guess fans are supposed to be fanatic by definition, but sometimes I'm almost afraid of the power some artists seem to have over their followers! I can get a bit obsessive over music, but I refuse to be part of any cult, and I certainly don't need to know anyones shoe size or see them walk from a hotel to a car 😂

15:44 Yes, there are a lot of things hidden in the song that you hardly notice in the live-version, including this "shuffle-blastbeat", which you can see and hear much better in the studio-version on Preslands channel.

the time signatures are pretty doable - it's switching between 5/4 and 4/4. Just count beats in between repeating segments and you'll have the time signature. You don't need to worry if something's a multiple of that time signature for most practical applicaitons (i.e. 8/4 or 12/4 is going to 'sound the same' as 4/4, so you can call it 4/4 and only anger a small percentage of your viewers) Edit: also, what you're calling blast beats are double bass beats. A blast beat is a bass+snare (+some kind of cymbal) alternating on 16ths or 32nd notes. By the way, the distorted vocals guy is the main artistic influence in the group, he's amazingly talented.

The opening section is largely in 5/4, so that’s the irregularity in feel.

And it's played in 2/3/4 type timing. 1,2,3, 1,2 if you count it out. So it feels very off, but if you count it off based on the hard hits on the toms/high hats it actually flows very smoothly. Definitely something you need to learn and get used to.

Ummmmm, do you _actually_ know what blast beats are? Merely going "fast" on double pedal bass drum ain't it, bro.. Check out early Napalm Death, Repulsion or Anthrax, where the term originated. Fast impactful _blasting_ on the _snare_ is kinda the point - not fast thudding on the bass drums. You _do_ get blasts in the song, but you have to wait until around 12:48 (after that masteful bass interlude) on this clip for _that_ to occur..

@@TheMuserResolute heh, no worries bro. Be kinda surprising if Napalm Death and that ilk were curriculum in school, hehe ;) Drumeo's got a decent intro here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2XSYYmfl9l-p8U Of course, the madmen in experimental jazz likely did this decades before any other genre. I mean - Jack Valentine and Buddy Rich did a gimmick of playing drums upside down during the seventies.
