Just an early little tip for you. Yes, the tired mechanic is gone but if you go to the nurses office the day after exploring Tartarus, the teacher will note you look tired. He will then give you a mystery drink and you'll gain a free point in Courage for drinking it (doing this does NOT cause time to pass). This was a feature in the original that they've left in, even though the actual tired mechanic it was related too is now gone.

A tip i found out about this game, is that out of the 3 social stats, Charm is the easiest to upgrade while Academics is the hardest, and Courage is in the middle. You can't just study once a week and hope it will be enough, which is probably what Junpei does. (Edit: Nevermind, because I'm rank 3 on each stat before midterms. Mainly by eating ramen and mystery burgers. If only real life worked like that.)

What are the actual modifiers of Hard vs. Merciless in this game? I still remember how in P5/P5R the highest difficulty was actually the easiest if you're proficient at targeting elemental and status weaknesses of enemies (and especially broken against certain roadblock boss thresholds). So, if it's the same here in P3R, Hard difficulty might be the more challenging and/or satisfying option.

If merciless is anything like P5’s merciless, it’s actually not necessarily harder than hard, but rather a different difficulty all together. In P5, merciless made it so by default, you did less neutral damage than in hard, but your crits / elemental attacks that hit an enemy’s weakness deals more damage than in hard. Say in hard mode, an enemy takes 50 damage on a neutral hit and 100 damage from a crit/weakness. in merciless you would deal 25 damage on a neutral hit but 200 on a crit and weakness. Idk if it’s the same here, but if it is, I recommend picking your poison, since most people (at least when it came to p5) felt hard and merciless were the same difficulty, with merciless being easier for people who know how mechanics works and hard being easier for people who are learning.

Same is true for enemies. They deal less neutral damage but deal more damage with their crits and elemental exploits. Basically Merciless makes it so everyone is wielding a double edged sword. Also elemental damage done to an enemy that’s resistant is also worse than it hard, but you’re not aiming to do those anyways. Subtle things In P5 that made merciless slightly harder, the bosses. Since some bosses didn’t have an elemental weakness, you were stuck with dealing just neutral damage, but bosses would have elemental attacks. Also also shadow recruitment was slightly harder, since performing a knockdown with their elemental weakness likely killed them, preventing you from talking to them in a hold up. Doubt that is gonna be an issue for Reload tho. Some things might’ve changed in Reload tho (I’m going into the gameplay aspect of the game blind as well), but I figure I share what’s been established in a previous game incase it still applies

So, interesting thing about canon names for the Hero. Starting from Persona 4 the Animation, the Heroes had been given their canonical name (other than Persona, and the Persona 2 Duology) P3 has Makoto Yuki, P4, of course has Yu Narukami, and P5 has Ren Amamiya. But the crazy thing is that the P3P Heroine also has a canonical name, Kotone Shiomi, which believe it or not, only appeared in a series of musical stage plays called Persona 3: the Weird Masquerade!😅

So while not P3 related, but still related to Persona. Not that long ago on reddit, there had been two posts made revealing what's inside of an early beta build for Persona 5. You can also find a video on this topic by Neglected Nuggets that shows off everything in the Beta. Anyway, the first of which is a female NPC who looks like she would show up as a helper at a park. Surprisingly, she's Nanako from Persona 4. She's just all grown up now. And as for the second is a post that reveals a model for what looks to be a female protagonist/wild card, which players would have had the option of playing as. Plus, her design was actually a gender swap of Sho Minazuki from P4 Arena Ultimax. Which makes sense with how the files of Ultimax listed Sho as P5Hero, implying that he was going to be the MC of Persona 5. Edit: The voice for this version of Nico Bizzle reminds me a bit of Darkly from Paper Mario: TTYD. Just a little less dank.

You introduced me to alot of series from your LPs and Persona was one of them! While I haven't played the games myself, I became quite fond of its characters & the music has forever integrated into my daily life~ That being said I know very little of P3 aside from the memes I know but heard it's quite highly regarded within the Persona community. I decided that I wanted P3R to be my first ever Persona game and I'm so excited to play this along with you Nico and the other penguins!

NicoB has upgraded to 4K. I originally found his channel when he had only recently jumped to HD during Yakuza Kiwami I think it was (or Zero one of those two). So it feels like entering a new era of his content to me.

I remember in January 2019 (which feels not that long ago but it was 5 years ago now!) when Nico shifted the KH LPs to 1080p (all previous ones were 720p). 5 years (HALF A DECADE) is long enough to upgrade stuff again but man, 2019 does not feel like 5 years ago at all.

Nico raises an interesting point about the environmental graphics. It almost kind of seems like they intentionally held back on it... as if to make it easier for eventually porting to other consoles like the Switch...? But that's probably just me being crazy.

The thing about the original soundtrack is that they use a lot samples for their overworld bgms. Now we get lyric tailor made for the musics

to answer your question, yes, they did need to make them look like a gun. the idea behind it is that it emulates a near death situation, which is what summons forth the persona

This game is quite nostalgic for me. I didn't play much of it myself, but I watched one of my brothers play it. It was around boss time and The boss music blew me away along with the way the game covers both sides of an RPG: putting the player in the shoes of character and the level-based combat side. It was one of the few JRPG series I've played by then along with Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy and made Persona another of my favorite RPG franchises.

Legend has it that Nico slept peacefully that night. Not because he could finally do a let's play of Persona 3, but because he wasn't caught up with Yakuza/Like a Dragon and he didn't have to choice if he wasn't going to play P3 Reload or Y8, so he had space for to play FF7 Rebirth at the end of the month.

I’m feeling big emotions over here and wanted to share with you, I first got introduced to persona through your persona 4 playthrough and fell completely in love with the series with persona 3 being my favorite. The rewind function is for if you save just before a boss fight and realize you need to get more items in the overworld, or if you fuck up on a social link. It's generally a "I fucked up" function and will get you back to the last time you could explore the city instantly. It's actually REALLY useful, because this game is STILL hard as dicks.

So I’m not actually gonna watch this right now as my own copy won’t arrive till Monday and I wanna play along as the let’s play goes on, but I wanted to put this comment here to say how excited I am for this series! I was too young to play when the original P3 came out and I never wanted to go back to it due to not having a console for it until we got the steam release. Cut to now where we got a full remake with updated mechanics, new voice actors, and tons of new content in general and I’m genuinely glad I waited. I unfortunately have been spoiled on the plot from watching a play through of the original game, but with all the new content this will still be a new experience so I’m putting this lp to the side till I can start the game myself! Cant wait to watch this as I play Monday!
