The lyrical quality of the music matches the metric quality of the sublime lyrics so well, that I believe it would have been difficult for him not to understand the sheer beauty of this song. I suspect that it's closer to a German 'lied' than to any popular song i've encountered.

This is really beautiful and the song itself is a masterpiece but every time I see a choir approach such a song it seems like they don’t feel it. They only pay attention on hitting the right notes at the right time and looking at the maestro for instruction. It’s like watching a group of robots singing.
