My dad showed me this song when I was very young, but I never really cared for Billy until a few years ago when my dad passed. I looked through his old Vinyls and found a little gem named "Storm Front." I cried for a good while. I sang this song at one of my choir concerts in high school for him, and cried again when I went to my first concert, and the crowd sang this song into the open night sky. I love Billy Joel now, almost as much as I love my dad. Thanks Billy, thanks for reminding me of an old friend, and an even better father.

It’s not always the human interaction, the loss of our furry, feathered and scaly friends are equally traumatic. Hey hello, I just turned 20 and I'm finding it hard to be vulnerable because I don't see how it's worth it. Can I ask for some advise? This is my situation: I don't think i have a problem with being vulnerable if I know that a person cares for me. The thing is that I usually don't believe people care, I guess I'm kind of cynical, although not 100%. And for that reason I don't see why it's a good idea to "rise again and open my heart again to love". I mean, if nobody cares, there's no point in hoping for love and getting hurt for something that doesn't exist - you'll just be hurt for nothing. If I may ask for your thoughts and advise on this matter, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I heard this beautiful song for the first on the show "This Is Us" this week. They play the most amazing songs! This song is so beautiful & it made me cry. What powerful lyrics! I grew listening to Billy Joel in the 80s but had never heard this song. Glad I know it now. ❤❤

The first time I ever heard that song, And So It Goes, I could identify with it, and I stopped in my tracks like OMG! And I actually began to cry. When I got married I had my brother perform this song at the church, and he had told me, he had such a hard time even rehearsing the song, because he would cry too! It's a very deeply heartfelt song, and honest to his vulnerabilities he felt at that time! Gives you a real idea of his true feelings. There's nothing fake about these lyrics!

Played this when my Dad passed. We didn’t have much of a relationship. In the last hours of his life we had a brief moment of understanding. For a minute or two it seems, he recognized my gifts. He had a room too, a sanctuary. I hope he’s at peace.

This could be his greatest composition. Simple but with chords like that. Wow. The crowd can be proud also as I think they really add to the chorus with a smooth topping of choral mellowness. A sheer delight to listen to. He will be an immortal.

Derian Jones: I agree totally! This song is so heart felt, extraordinary and simple, all at the same time. If there was ever a definition in the dictionary as to what a well written song should sound like, this song would be "Exhibit A" for real! Thanks to the piano man himself, for a great song/performance. Enjoy! Cheers, Sam.

I have loved Billy Joel since I was a teenager and heard his album. "The Stranger." Yet I had not heard this song until recently with the limited Billy Joel channel on Sirius FM. I had to stop the car to listen to every word and note. It is so very hauntingly true in lyrics and in minor chords. With every love, you risk a broken heart. Are you strong enough to take the risk? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. This has now become my favorite Billy Joel song. I think he is a master musician in all ways.
@ashsmith36956 жыл бұрын
Since hearing this song for the first time it’s had a profound affect on me. It took me awhile to grasp the song’s concept but all I had to do was look inward. Love is good, it’s bad, it’s indifferent. When it works it’s invincible. When it doesn’t it’s crippling. Everybody just wants to be loved for who they are. That’s it. Love is about exposing yourself to someone else, warts and all. Taking that leap of faith. Or I should say believing in it enough to take that first step in the first place.

“And every time I’ve held a rose it seems I’ve only felt the thorns”… that line always breaks my heart. Joel wrote this after a breakup yet the words obtain to myriad human events. The melody, itself, owes so much to traditional Celtic folk tunes that always have a touch of sadness about them. So, this choice for “ Miguel’s Story” was a touch of genius.
