I had the mini mini 2,3,4 and tbh they were amazing drones but I just didn't use 90% of what was on offer on each drone. So the neo for me is a basic fun flyer with little to use captures photo's abd videos . So right up my street. I did get he flymore so have more control than a standalone version. But a very informative video thanks.

I was in Vancouver, BC two days ago on the newest software version flying over the water with the remote. I just stopped videotaping and was taking photos wow, twenty feet from the shore over the water. When the drone decided to fly sideways, hit in the roof of a restaurant. Luckily, it went towards the land and not out towards the ocean. There is problems with this drone over water. No matter what they say with remote or without. I was able to retrieve the drone on the other side of the building on the ground. Undamaged luckily.

Apparently even in remote control mode the downward sensor can be affected if over water. I've seen a few people have similar issues.

@khanimania I think the best thing with this drone is to just use it as an autonomous drone and forget the remote. I don't know why they diluted it's main aim by giving it the option of being remotely controlled. It just causes issues with it. Get a dji mini for that.

I'm really curious regarding where people are getting the idea that it's equal to a mini series drone with camera etc. I haven't seen ANYTHING suggesting it is. Anything I've seen markets it as a beginners drone to introducte drones with some auto features like the bigger drones, and can be launched by hand, doesn't need a controller for basic features, an intro to fpv and for those who have goggles it's a smaller version to mess around with because the props are well protected. I haven't seen anything otherwise. Maybe it's a country/region thing? I read comments on one video that had entire threads complaining about it not being as good as the mini4 pro. I tossed in that it is not meant to be. Like, these people were angry. They didn't even know that it doesn't have a gimbal or an SD card slot. I'm not being a jerk, i assure you. I'm just genuinely curious where they're getting the advertising and capability specs from. Because there's NO WAY that i would think that a hundred people in that particular comment section would have no idea what it's meant for. A few people pointed out, rudely, that it's a $200 drone and it should be obvious that it's not a camera drone. Like i mentioned, people were seriously angry about it not being equal to the mini 4 pro. That's why I'm genuinely interested in knowing what advertising they are getting. I have the DJI account notifications on and it made it clear and even shows a kid launching it from his palm. My only guess would be that they're only seeing local best buy flyers or something and then the sales person is an idiot 😂 if that were the case dji should be told about it because some of these people may be getting ripped off for commission sales. 🤨

@TheClosetMonster totally agree with everything you say and spot on about it being a stand alone selfie drone. Problem is DJI have caused thus issue by allowing it to be connected to a controller making it more like a real drone. They should have left it as it is, a fun selfie drone for b roll and family fun. This has caused no end of confusion. Also, if you watch their KZbin video advertising the Neo, it clearly shows a guy on am SUP launching it from his hand yet they have clearly stated thus cannot be done. They're trying to outdo hover air by adding more features but it's just diluting a fairly decent and well priced flying camera. That is all it should be.

@NoviceWildCamper see, that's what I was wondering. I had a feeling it was being marketed differently and perhaps incorrectly. DJI should fix it right away so these people aren't losing the drones in water or deep woods etc. Anyone looking for a refund should definitely cite that ad. I only saw that it works with the differently Specialized phone app or the very limited controller but insisted it's not necessary for first time users, it was just an extra step if you wanted to get used to a controller

I agree with what you said. After ordering my NEO, I viewed some videos that had me thinking I should return it (before even receiving the delivery). However, other videos I watched had me change my mind. After getting the NEO and trying it in my back yard, I think its a different "Class" of fun and will defniitely keep it. I have multiple DJIs, and I never expected the NEO to have perfect 4K video, I understand due to the size, it would not be able to stand windy conditions well, and it had limitations with battery capacity (it is Lithium Ion and not higher performance batteries like lipos). For the price and what I'd use it for.. I like it.

@MicheIIePucca I haven't actually experienced any of the camera issues others have had. It fits its intended purpose for me. I coach new and want to be pilots, and this is perfect for those who show up terrified to actually try the controller on a mini series. I get them to start with the hand, then work into the rc2 and the mini3pro. Then the 4pro for footage of they want it. Then, I get the neo to circle them as part of the package. They fly, get their 4pro footage, and the neo shows them how hilariously nervous they are 🤣

Mate. You hit the nail on the head with Dji's Neo " Expert ". My neo wasn't allowing me to enable direction track as a mode for the custom button. So I rang them up and chose the option for a neo "expert". Like with you he ummed and arrred and eventually said I needed to use a controller. I said rubbish as you can fly with your palm and I should be able to use direction track by just pressing the mode button on the drone. He put me on hold for 5 minutes and said that I needed to make sure I had a strong WiFi connection. Again I put him right by saying that's not correct either. After being put on hold for a 2nd time he said I would need to send it in for repair. I left the conversation feeling like I definitely knew way more than Dji's neo "expert" and now my little neo is on it's way to the Netherlands 🙄

Thanks for the videos mate, I've been considering getting either a Hover air or the Neo for its intended purpose. I do like the idea of the Neo for some b roll, do you find much use for it over just using a camera in the normal way on a tripod? I really wish the Neo was folding though like the Hover air but one can't deny that the Neo is a bargain at that price point & it's 4k isn't it? Sound quality using the phone definitely sounded better on the Hover air. I'm undecided on image quality between them, I think you will need to do a dedicated side by side on that ;)

@LoneWolfExplorer problem with the footage is they perform different in different lights. The neo perofmed well I think in the evening sunset shots,at least better than earlier in the day whare it was blown out but it is 4k so crisper picture. I'm chatting with hover air at the moment as they contacted me after the first video and hoping to get a demo model of the new one to do a real side by side comparison but for the money. I think the neo is great if just using for b roll but it would be in addition to my normal camera set up.

Hi, I bought this drone to take family photos when out with the kids on walks and holidays. I think you hit the nail on the head.100% right It's ok for general photos videos (quality not amazing) but it's not very stable in the wind ,I wouldn't recommend taking it up to high or water. I found it was quite good following my son while running in the countryside.

Do not, i repeat, do NOT fly Neo above water when using quickshots out of your hand. Last sunday i executed a dronie from my hand while standing on a jetty because i thought it would be a nice shot considering Neo would fly back to me after 10 meters. But after a couple meters in, Neo decided to land....yes on water!!! Before i knew, Neo was sinking and now Neo is chillin on the bottom of the lake 😢 Unfortunately i don't have DJI Care but i did reported a flyaway and they are looking in to it know. Hoping to get a new Neo 🤞🏽

I own a bunch of DJI products, FPV and GPS, but I'm not a fan boy. I call it like I see it. In terms of video quality between the Hover and the Neo, it's subjective in my opinion. In the example you provided, the Hover looks mushy and over sharp while the Neo looks washed out but with more detail. I prefer the detail as opposed to over-sharpened mush but that NEO washed out image is gross. I do have a NEO on the way. I couldn't resist for the price. Thanks for the comparison and the info.

@originafreerangechicken they're both good drones if they're used as a simple flying selfie cam and yes agree on the quality. The 4k on the neo does make it sharper but it really blows out in the sunlight although I thought it did quite well on the sunset when it wasn't as harsh. Be interesting to see the 4k hover air when that's out shortly and do a comparison. They could jump ahead but they've got to get their price right, too expensive in my eyes. If a known respected brand like dji can do it for £169 selling their brand image then I'm sure hover air could too.

@AlcyonOdyssey the whole point is to use outside without a remote. Why would you want to use a drone inside? It's to get a different perspective. It works fine outside with no remote like the hover air. That's what it's designed to do and for the price it does it well. Just don't use it like a normal drone with your phone or an rc and you'll be fine so long as you don't fly over water or a drop off.

Hi, I have a question if you could answer that would be great... If we connect the drone with remote like NC3 and then change the setting of video quality reduce the sharpness and all. AND fly the drone the video comes out better in that particular flight with controller, BUT next day if we start the drone in autonomous mode do we still have the same setting what we set on controller or it will get reset to factory. In short, are we stuck with auto setting in autonomous mode every time start it without controller OR it will change forever once we change it from the controller ?

Hi! Just saw your video and ive found out the answer why my Neo didnt circle around me as requested without mobile or controller. I was on a pier in the beach and i went to the end to capture a nice view with the city but after pressing the circle mode the Neo flew away and it didnt move anymore staying still on top of the water. I had to manually bring back so i kinda feel the brightness of the water like you mention might have blocked everything.

@@NoviceWildCamper on the same day i drove into a high cliff mountain around my village and tried the same mode near the edge of the cliff that has an amazing overview over the village and again the circle mode didnt respond as Neo tried to lower altitude. Luckily he was close to the terrain. I was trying to control NEO with voice commands cause i feel it a great tool for the recording and some voice controls such as far or higher didnt worked. My RC2 controller is on the way so i kinda feel that you need to now well how this NEO reacts. But yea i agree on your comments that this is not what it should be. im sure a lot of people will loose NEO when not using controllers =/

the hover is oversaturated. look at the details in the NEO. Neo color are natural and you can see the details in the flowers the grass and the sky. too much color in the hover. the colors in the hover are not true.

the biggest issue is actually flying over water or a dropoff using your phone, no RTH, and will hover in place then land on low battery, when out of the phones wifi range, you would have been in trouble if that had happened over water and was just beyond the reach of the phone. it absolutely does have internal gps, for position hold and height, it's in use in all modes, but you have no return to home when you fly with just your phone or in fully autonomous modes.

@@NoviceWildCamper very true, but it almost certainly will, provided if it does stop, like yours did, it's within range of your phone to be flown in manually, it definitely has a GPS onboard, but probably doesn't use it for the automated flights, i believe you can instigate them before the internal gps has found a signal, if the internal gps gets a signal before you activate an auto mode, and you are inside a geofence/NFZ, it will not take off, but if you quickly tell it to do a circle or something manually rapidly after turning it on, it will do the maneuver despite being inside an NFZ.

I'm curious on how you think a drone can use the gps on your phone. I have built drones and taken dji's apart and I can tell you it takes very little room for gps to be installed into a drone. I looked up the specs for the dji neo and it says it has gps and again, please explain to me how you think a drone can be accurate in any way with the gps device located on the phone and not the drone.

I'm not sure why you think it would drop automatically if it's over 10m in height without a controller? In the manual it clearly says it would land in place if it goes into Attitude mode, which happens when there is no GPS signal and insufficient light. As long as it still has GPS lock it wouldn't drop even if it's above 10m in height.

Maybe when the drone is in autonomous mode, it doesn't not use the GPS to position itself, so when the downward sensor can't detect anything below, it lands.

@@NoviceWildCamper That's not how it works. It will only land in place IF it goes into Attitude mode, meaning if it loses GPS connections AND does not have enough light to maintain positioning. If it has either one of those available to it (GPS or enough light), then it will function normally.

Birds eye also let's you go over 10m even just using the drone on its own. DJI really does need to clear this up for us.

@@lingoting Yes in Phone only mode you can not see satellite connections but I know the NEO is obtaining at least some of them as I live in a Blue Geofence Zone that requires me to authorize the NEO, and when using the Phone app, I do have to check a box to be allowed to fly in my area Blue Zone. I am not sure about drone only as there is no way to check a box and for the most part at home I generally use the App.

It needs proximity sensors for that otherwise it couldn't work out what it was or the distance. At the end of the day there's no reason why they can add an AI sensor into their existing drones so they can fly autonomously like this one without a controller. That would be better. Stepping down rather than up.

It's not marketed as a camera drone. I've been wondering where people are getting this info from bc I've been seeing it a lot in comments. It's a beginner drone meant for those who are interested in flying but are not wanting to invest $1000. I haven't seen any advertisements to show otherwise so I'm really confused. It clearly states what it's for in anything I've seen. 🫤

It's marketed as an automated selfie drone that can also be used with a remote controller. That's why they sell it as a stand alone autonomous drone. All other drones come with an rc cos you have to have an rc to use them. This, you don't. Hence it's a camera dron but... can be used as a normal drone albeit a poor version.

It was sometime between 10 am and 12 on 9th September. The issue is had was that you show the drone flying over water with no remote but this clearly shouldn't be done and this was confirmed by your team. I have had several comments where people have lost their drones due to this.
