I always wondered how we began to speak here in Texas using the vowel sounds we use. After seeing this, now I know it was the Southern England people who brought their style of speech to our area. Of course, it's mixed with german and irish and scottish people accents too.

I'm quite impressed how clearly the words come out of your mouth Elliott. It's rather difficult to hear people speak like this down the streets. How have the KZbin videos on pronunciation affected the way you speak on a daily basis?

Great video! I'm an 'advanced learner' and I've found this very helpful, especially the remark about southern speakers also using the short, /æ/ sound.

Being an American, I find that the British accent tends to be more what I call "sing songy". Where Americans are more abrupt. Like you say, there are several accents in the UK and also in the US, and depending on where you are, the sound and pronunciation are quite different. I just found your channel and have found your style of teaching very nice and quite easy to follow. Thank you! 😀

Mentioning "Harry potter" it brought to my mind when you were talking about the word "rubbish" in a previous video, I didn't know before that it was a British idiom! And all I remembered was that I used to use it fluently and spontaneously since I first heard it in harry potter from "Fred and George" while they're objecting, when I was a little girl!

Hello there, just bumped into your videos not long ago, shame on me :P .... I just wanted to drop a few lines with you and say that your vids are rilly rilly good, you are doing an utterly good job on explaining how and what to do with the tongue, very helpful for me since I teach ESL kor kids in Budapest. By the way I showed last week a vid you made about idioms and the kids are over the moon about you. They just love you, its plain obvious that you are born for this and you have such a passion for English. Its quite catchy. British English is my one and only

The reason your Dentist asks you to make an "Aaaah" sound is so they can check the back of your mouth /throat, and to see how your uvula moves. They are checking for signs of Oral Cancer, really. it is also their sneaky way to get you to show more of your mouth so they can get a closer look at it before REALLY getting a look at it! ;) Because i am currently working on a series of KZbin Videos where one of my characters is going to be a British Dental Assistant. I am making Role Plays to help people overcome Dental fears. Your Dentist comment ironically came at the right time. ;) Say "Aaaah!" and don't forget to smile. :] Cheers from Edmonton City, Canada.
