I do a new loop route that I created in East Sooke Regional Park.
The distance is decent and not really a problem, but I did not give myself lots of time to do it before it got dark. There was no wasting time that I could do.
The trail is beautiful and well worth the time out there!
Just remember to hydrate yourself on the trail and do it often. Also bring small snacks for quick energy.
I did not hydrate myself well and ran into dehydration problems along the trail. The good news is I recognised it early and was able to hydrate myself enough to finish the trail on time. I was challenged on this hike and I'm glad I was able to push through.
The ocean views on this trail are fantastic and I highly recommend to anyone to do a part of the Coastal Trail in this park.
Filmed on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The moss on the trees is so pretty. Gorgeous views!! I jibber-jabber myself down the trails, too. 😆 That coastline! Wow!! You dehydrated. Sip while you walk! AND the V8? You're lucky you didn’t get sick. Goodness! It sure was a beautiful and challenging hike! Geez, Age! They're all worth it, though. 👊 You're one tough cookie!

Yeah, the green from the moss is energizing when I'm out there. Sometimes on my hikes I don't jibber-jabber enough and then I get worried about bears! The coastal trail is one of my favourites😁 I don't have a hydration pack or one of those bottles with a long straw. Something for me to think about getting. The V8 actually helped a little bit... Had I had a slower pace, it would have been an easier hike, but I was no a mission😀 Get out of there while the sun was still out.

Inside the forrest a lot of fallen dead trees again all over, but that moss covering everything sure does looks pretty cool. Part of the trail following the coast line reminds me of some similar ones over here. A bit harder to climb, and needs to be extra careful but the amazing views on the cliffs are always great reward 😎 Big like for the longer video again, thank You for the effort and sharing Age! 👍🏻😎 p.s. F those birds, we don't mind you talking all the way throughout the hike, keep it up. 😁💪🏻

Yes, there are a lot of fallen trees here. We get a lot of windstorms that hit the coast. The coastal part of the trail is one of my favourites. I like the views it offers and it's exciting to climb. How do you watch the videos? Do you put them on TV so that you can sit back and relax? Is that why you like them longer? LOL, I'll tell the birds that, the next time I'm out there😀 I appreciate you coming long for this adventure😁

Pretty great views from up there. Always enjoy that sound of crashing waves...just stay away from the wet rocks! It's a Peggy's Cove thing here as eventually someone gets swept off by venturing too close...and on wet rocks! Looked harder going down that it was going up! Another great adventure!
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 22 күн бұрын
Thanks, Bruce! Yeah, the sounds of the waves are pretty relaxing😁 I don't like the wet rocks. Sometimes they are ok and then other times they are like a skating rink. It is harder going down. There is always the worry of falling down...falling up is not as bad😀 I also have a heavy pack on my so going down is a little tougher to navigate. The views from there are pretty awesome though and I really got treated to a nice day😊

8 miles and 2,200ft of elevation is a very good hike Age. Add in all the forward and backs to the camera, too. Was there cracking of twigs that made you aware of something in the trees, or did you hear something else? I loved the way the views of the sea just came up over the rise. The trail along the edge was a bit precarious, to say the least. The thundering of the waves was beautiful. That was a perfect shot with the lone standing chunk/pinnacle of rock in the bay. You have the same issue as me, it seems. I seem to wait until I need water rather than making myself drink water. I can't reach my water bottle with my pack on, so it's a bind to take the whole thing off for a drink. An amazing hike, Age. I never seem to catch myself falling. It's always off camera. What is skunk cabbage? I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing.
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 21 күн бұрын
Thanks, Chris! I heard cracking in the trees, so that made me more alert. I wouldn't want to trip on some of the places along the trail😀 The sound of the waves is relaxing to me. My water is along on my pack and I cannot reach it well so I don't stop and take it off enough. I need to either stop and drink more or get a bladder type system or one of those bottles with a really long straw and take sips along the way. I catch myself more often than not when I trip. once that changes, I'll be using hiking poles regularly because I do not like falling on the ground. Skunk cabbage is a big plant that comes out in muddy/soggy ground. It has these big yellow flowers in Spring. It stinks and smells like the spray of a skunk. When bears come out of hibernation they will eat skunk cabbage and I hear it helps them get their first poops out. I enjoyed this hike. I like the coastal portion a lot. I can see doing this one again.

Beautiful! Do you have many animal encounters? What about cougars?
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 22 күн бұрын
I see elk and hear grouse a lot. I've had bears in front of my Jeep, but they are usually running away. I had never seen a cougar in the wild until a little earlier this year. I was on my way back home from being out in the forest cooking. I was driving the Jeep down the road and a cougar jumped in front to cross the road and I almost hit it. It was cool to see, I just wish I'd been more prepared so I could take it in more. In the woods, I've seen deer a few times. They are not like city deer and are much more skittish. I see a lot of wild slugs😁 I still have not seen a wolf.

You are climbing wearing two tops and a back pack . To me you look way too warm . . Like you are trapping the sweat . But you love that top you wear . I think you mistake overheating for dehydration. .
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 21 күн бұрын
No, there is no mistake. I'm dehydrated. A good way tell is to weigh yourself before a hike and then weigh yourself afterwards. You'll then know how much water you lost along the way. I'm wearing a tee-shirt and a hoodie. Not unreasonable for March 30th. It was nice day, but not overly warm. Looking up the weather for that day, it was a high of 11 degrees Celsius. I normally sweat a lot when exercising. I can delay it a little bit by going at a slower pace, but it will eventually come. The weight I'm carrying in the pack also makes me exert more energy.
