As a fellow owner of a blackstar fly 3, I gotta say that this is a rather fair representation, actually. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome little box for when you just wanna plug into something quickly and jam out, and it's waaaaaay better than the other mini amps. Hell, I'd say that it's even better than that old 10w Ibanez amp I used to have when I just started out. However, it does seem like the katana mini is just doing it somewhat better. I'll have to try one for myself and compare the two, just for fun.

not quite twice. Boss Katana Mini 99 usd. Blackstar Fly 3 60 usd. Although, for 99 bucks you can buy several small combo amps all of which would probably be better for small room practicing. Line6 Spider 15 or even a Blackstar CoreID 10

Blackstar with the extension cab is what I'm listening to this vid on, plugged into my laptop. @alvildeshirven35715 жыл бұрын
My theory without knowing much about these amps is that the reason the Fly 3 sounds great and the rest sound terrible is that the rest are built like just any other amplifier but less of it, but the Fly 3 I'm guessing is built in a completely different way more like a Bluetooth speaker with modeled amp sound running into it.

@napalmhardcore7 жыл бұрын
I bought the Fly a few weeks back. I was aware of the Katana and had seen demos when I bought the Fly. While the Katana is undeniably better purely as a mini amp, certain key features drew me to the Blackstar instead. Once you add the extension cab to the Fly, not only do you get stereo delay (which is a cool effect), it will also double up as portable laptop/tablet/phone speakers with proper stereo separation. In situations where space is at a premium, I can leave the extension cab at home and just take the main unit. The problem I have with the Katana is its size. If I need something small and portable, the Fly is a good size. If I need more volume than the Fly can provide, I'd be looking for a larger amp than the Katana Mini. It sits smack bang in the middle of two different use case scenarios and I personally think it would be a compromise for each of them.

And you can even get a cute little cabinet to go with them! Love my AC30 amplug - doesn't sound that much like an AC30 but it's still amazing considering its size.

I can testify to that.

I agree they should have demoed them in the video. I always use them (I have Ac30, metal, Satriani, and both bass models) more than my Orange Micro crush, Marshall MS-4 (I have the Zakk Wylde model for decoration), and my Fly-3.

I love my amplugs, they are small, cheap and portable. However I don't think they sound great, compared to my marshall mg30cfx. I would say that they are worth thr money though

Damn. Does that mean that my early '90's vintage Made in Korea Marshall MS-2R isn't worth a fortune then? :-)

I picked up the Orange for a song (like £20) second hand and found exactly what the guys did. Then I plugged in some decent headphones... Turns out the circuit is good, it's the tiny crap speaker that lets it down. It sounds good through headphones and if you use it as a low powered amp head through a cab. Pleasantly surprised in the end and it's now my main practice amp when I need to be quiet.

9:15 is like the first band practice I ever went to

You were so right Rob... No Volume sounded best on those first two you did. I have a Fly III and it's way better sounding than my old cube. Blackstar Fly III is the best little amp ever (to me) and inexpensive! But for twice the price and twice the size... the Boss is clearly the Boss here today.

Put the output of the Boss Katana Mini into a Boss Metal Zone, then into a full sized Boss Katana. Now you're talking about tone.
