I currently have a Nord Grand. Played off an on for a few years and got the Nord because starting to get more serious. I went last week to look at acoustic uprights and frankly none of them felt or sounded as good as the Nord. Love it!

If you were looking in the same price range, I would personally choose a good digital/stage piano over a cheap upright. Decent feeling uprights brand new will have you looking at the 10k price point

@@toby7647 Thing is, no matter how good the upright is - it will never sound as good as one of the grands which are in the Nord ;-) BUT one of the things I love about the Nord libraries: their uprights are really good as well, so they already can beat quite some real ones.

The Grand is not that heavy! I pack it up and haul it to band practice every week. Only 5-ish pounds heavier than the NP4, plus you finally get great action paired with the amazing Nord Piano library. I ended up going with the Grand after several years with the Nord Piano line and will probably never look back. It is a bit bulky and awkward, but most definitely gig-able.

I have the Grand and it is simply stunning.. To me the action is just superior, and having the tilted controls lend yourself to very immediate easy to see sculpting without having to lean over the board. And it gives a great retro EP look compared to the traditional flat looking planks. For jazz, or blues playing it rocks. You wouldn't see Norah Jones or similar with a NP5...

I think I'm right in saying that the Stage is the only model in the Nord range to feature aftertouch. Why would you want this in a piano/organ instrument, I hear you ask? I use it to control the rotor speed on the organ sounds whilst I've got my left hand on another keyboard and my right foot on the organ swell pedal. Works a treat, and is the one reason I wouldn't change to any of the other formats.

It's pretty apparent that you are a gigging musician first - it was clear that you were very interested in how you can modify and layer sounds. I gig, but it's secondary for me; I wanted a nearly-no-compromise piano first, that I could gig comfortably with, and eventually went for the Piano 5, which I think you undersold relative to the Grand. Could you have played the same piano piece that you opened with on the Piano 5 with similar settings? The biggest difference I heard almost immediately was really simple: Reverb hall effect was on the Grand but not the P5 and that gives the sound a buttery, elegant feel. I almost went for the Stage 3, but a recent experience at the local Guitar Center helped me see I made the right choice: they had both side-by-side (S3, P5) and I played a piece I'd been practicing. I think it's the triple sensor, but I REALLY noticed that the S3 just didn't have the "punch" of the P5 - the range of volume on a key strike from very quiet to very loud just was not there on the Stage 3 but the Piano 5 brought it out beautifully and expressively. I thought that was a good video actually demonstrating how to change sounds I thought it might have been a bit fuddy-duddy in the way that he was trying to get it so exact but at least you explained what he was doing so people could see which was very interesting indeed in the way that you did it So I would just say get somewhere near the sound and even make your own sound that was close to it and I had a bit of you into it that’s what I would’ve been doing here I’m not trying to get everything so precise but I’m sure that you will agree with me that that’s an alternative choice that we all should have Keyboard players and musicians don’t wanna be put into a box if they want to hear the record then put the bloody record on that’s what I say Who knows maybe you’ll come up with a better sound in the record and I always had that approach otherwise how can anybody be creative and how could things be progressive if we keep following the bloody record all the time Well I think some people need their handheld and told exactly what to do to get required sounds and that’s just the way it is and I think that’s what you was trying to demonstrate for which was those type of people which is OK I suppose But anyway I did Subscribe as it was interesting the way that you showed everything and explained everything which was really the best part of the show because people need to know what they’re getting and why they are getting it and the differences between the keyboards which is something people need to be shown if they don’t know these keyboard Even though these keyboards are good I still see that they are well over priced If only they would just be a bit more competitive they would’ve sold quite a lot more keyboards two musicians that to be quite honest with you don’t really have a lot of cash these days are going to the economic downturn which is affected just about everybody So I think Nordic need to be a little bit more sensitive and cut 20% off the price at least to make things within reach of what people can afford or just simply keep them on the shelves for the few that have got the cash that’s my opinion but I think it’s quite a good point And I think it should be made on one of these shows to point out what I just said and probably give the company a nudge to think about reducing this ridiculous prices

@@jackduxburymusic Yup agreed. I pulled the trigger on the 88 Stage 3, expecting it's arrival at our local music store any minute. So stoked!!! I may end up downgrading to Wave2 but, thanks in part to learning from your vids, I learned that the Stage 3's "two-keyboard" architecture probably fits better with the MalletKat's "two controllers" than the Wave2. I think the ability to access those two Nord keyboards from the two MalletKat controllers will make that combo pretty sweet. The biggest failing of the Grand is the utterly shit switchgear rubber contact buttons which activate on around 1.5mm of movement. Panel lock required for everything. Total joke. No one at Nord could be arsed to product test? It took me 3 minutes to discover that the company was primarily a compression software house, and an instrument manufacturer second. Go buy a Kawai folks, paint it red if ya must….but realise that an mp7se is half the price, from which the Grand uses its keybed. (And the Grand action is closer to a Rhodes than an actual piano)
