Make a waterproof bucket entirely from wood. No glue. No metal.
You can see the whole making process, with many details, in this video.
I do most of the work by hand.
Special attention is paid to the horizontal wooden rings that hold the whole bucket together.
The production of the groove plane for the bottom is also shown briefly in the video, as you can hardly buy these any more.
Building a wooden bucket only out of wood was new territory for me.
Before I started filming, I made some prototypes of the horizontal wooden rings. I got the best results with forest fresh ash.
The staves and bottom are made of dry silver fir (no resin galls).
The outer dimensions of the bucket: diameter at the bottom 30cm, diameter at the top 35cm, height to the top of the bucket 40cm, total height 60cm. Wall thickness approx. 1,8cm.
Capacity approx. 30 litres.
Inspiration for this project was the following youtube video:
• Swiss Cooperage with R...

Steam bending the riven wood straight so you could power plane while maintaining grain alignment was super clever! I don’t know if that’s a traditional way of handling riven wood, but I’ve never seen a technique quite like that before. Well done!!

He starts riving the wood at 11:04. At 11:40 he states (in captions) that he’s following the grain on the bandsaw. Steams at 12:01 and then states that he’s bending them straight at 12:16. Then power planes (thicknesser) at 12:40.

I clicked this video wondering about how you kept the bucket together, I was honestly expecting some bushcraft style rope that was made from “wood” but when I saw the (for lack of better words) “clasps” I was amazed, that’s such a great way to do that I love it

Great video! My dad and I demonstrated making wooden buckets (with riven wood rings) at the Ohio Sate fair for about 15 and 10 years respectively with few deviations from what you presented. The few deviations were: (1). No power tools (other than the chain saw to cut the logs. (2). White oak rings, made from a green log without steam or heat. (3). No pegs And, yes there is a lot of wood waste to pick up.

Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 I've just found your channel and I'm so pleased there's no narration, only the sound of a craftsman working with wood and his tools, thank you for that. I enjoy watching Epic Upcycling and the craftsman works the same as you(, occasionally music in the background not overpowering), there is no narration just the relaxing sounds of a craftsman, and therapeutic benefits.
