Im so glad you did a review of this microscope. Ive been considering it for a couple of years now, but Ive never seen any decent video's on its use for electronics. Thanks!

Really enjoyed that review, i use a Adonstar for over 2 Years now and i am really happy with it! I built my own stand for it, becuase the original wouldnt fit big Mainboards, and also added LED ring to the Microscope. Also its hooked up to a TV, because my early Version that i am using had a tini tiny screen. But i cant belive how much the prices went up, i bought mine for 100$ including shipping to germany.

I purchased this microscope based on this video, and can confirm it is as good as presented here. I plugged it into a 65" screen and it is every bit as sharp as it is on the small screen. I got this microscope as it is a lot smaller on the bench than a full sized optical microscope, so suits my needs at the moment.

27:19 - Those microscopes have strong Led lights, which are not diffused, therefore provide strong glares. Once you use diffused anti-glare light, even more details will be visible.

Novice watchmaker here. Thank you for this video. I will save up to try the version I found on Amazon with an even higher focus point that allows for even more room for my watchmaking tools. While not currently in my budget, I can save toward buying one. The other options I've seen require more room and money than I have. Thanks again!

I have the same one but with a larger screen, you can put it much higher by using the end piece if the microscope, giving you much more room to work. I can’t fault it and use a Cartier bag over it to avoid dust. Before you buy one keep a check on prices, as they go up and down very quick.

I have mine mounted to a monitor boom and using a Barlow lens. Very nice setup for the price. No limitation on the size of board you can look at.

I did try it 1m above my bench alongside my overhead video camera and it worked really well and gave great magnification even at that ditance - I think I may mount it there as an aid to recording YT videos. I will be keeping my Trinocular Amscope clone though 😉😉

I have a very similar appearing microscope and you can tilt the upright post away from you so that you can have unobstructed access to your work for soldering etc. I did note that the hinge at the bottom was rather stiff and I had to use a bit or force to tilt it back but it was very useful to do that. Thanks again for your work making, editing and posting these videos; I very much enjoy them!

For viewing the centre of an ATX mainboard can you not extend the boom arm by way of the lock screw on top at 5:54?

I must say that Andonstar has a real good magnification with still a clear picture. I am sure Andy Handy from the mobile phone repair close to you would want one.

I have bought the AD407 in February. From its specifications in the manual, the model you tested (AD407 Pro) seems to be identical to mine EXCEPT for the length of the shaft (12.5 instead 7 in) and the size of the base. Since with the old holder it was almost impossible to work and solder, I (among other users) have repeatedly asked Andonstar to provide the anyway excellent microscope with a longer support shaft, and their engineers eventually agreed, releasing the Pro version . Hopefully they will sell, on request the owners of AD407 "vanilla" with the new stand system.

I think the axis of the microscope can be tilted if it is unsrewed a bit with plier, so you have a better range for optical field to ATX boards
@LearnElectronicsRepair

Yeah I read that afterwards. Its also fairly simple to mount it above the bench, I just wanted to point out it is not a major problem to do something like that but you do have to do a little work to implement it.

Hi guys, I posted a DYI Mod/hack of the AD407 on the LER Discord. It is possible to mount it on a LCD monitor arm and have a much larger working area. (even for a desktop board)

What is the difference between the 26* and 40* series andonstar microscopes aside from the obvious screen sizes and optional lens selection, and different stand configurations? I guess my question is, is there a difference in the microscope itself like in the ccd sensor?

You can also clamp it down the bottom edge under the focus ring, this is best for soldering as you have more adjustment and the scopes not in the way as much
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair 2 жыл бұрын
I did get it at 14.5 inches working distance clamped as I did it, which is better than my optical microscope 6 inches - but your suggestion would give a little less magnification which would be good. I also tried it 1m above my bench alongside my YT recording camera - it works very well there too

In an engineering environment I would use it on a pcb coming in from a vendor/contractor if I noticed a problem on the board. I would use it make a photo of the problem area, save the photo then in a graphics program highlight the area and add required text i.e. what's wrong, rev of pcb, date etc. That photo would be sent to QC mgr. from there it would go to the contractor to be aware of the problem. I personally would not use this product to do any soldering instead I would use a quality Luxo magnifying lamp.

Everyone has there own preferred way of working. For soldering I will continue to use my optical microscope (Amscope clone) as it has stereoscopic vision for full depth perception, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well I could solder with the AD407. I think I was very fair in the summing up - both have their advantages and disadvantages and it is a pleasure to be able to use both microscopes and give (I believe) a very honest opinion on them 🙂

Impressive, seems to beat my vintage dynascope. The bracket looks odd, the lens seems too far forward compared with the site photos, I see some have cantilevered rear arms. Can you zoom using the buttons on the LCD? Dare I say it, use blu tak to secure small PCBs.

I finally ended up buying something similar. Mine doesn't have the built in display but I'm connecting it to a TV or monitor anyway. It was a difficult choice with all the options on Amazon but I spent a lot of time reading the reviews and hope that I made the correct choice. I can't afford something like this but if I can start making money on repairs, this might be on the work surface down the road.

Nice, but if you just need a microscope for soldering and no need for recording video you're way better off with an optical stereo microscope. You lose all perception of depth on a flat screen and that's more important than a lot of people might think.
@myoutuber77
@myoutuber77 Жыл бұрын
One variable which makes depth perception possible is lighting. You can compensate a lot for not having an optical micro by positioning your light sources appropriately. This requires some practice, but it is not any hard to achieve practical depth perception on the monitor.
